Yea, congrats to Young for his first win in a slam. However, I would not make too much of this. "The Gouch" is better called "The Joke" because that is what he is...

Completely agree, some of those others are in serious danger of duplicating Roddick's development as a player (hopefully they'll end up with more than a big serve/forehand). Not so this kid....

Yeah, he showed some of the 'touch' that every has been talking about for years.

I was impressed by one comment he made in the on court interview. He admitted that he didn't always try to chase down every ball and that he is really working to improve that now. He is developing at a much more normal rate now, and this is the way it should have been all along.

The child prodigy from Europe vs the child prodigy from USA...that is cool. (Gasquet is now of course older, but his youth was basically the same as that of Young, except for the fact that Gasquet did manage to win matches at such young age).

That was superb.

I don't remember anyone returning Guccione's serve as well as that. The Gooch had no answer, he was getting destroyed from the baseline and whenever he came forward he got passed.

Brilliant performance from The Don, and admirable that he spent over 15 mins signing autographs for kids afterwards. The women on the match that followed arrived at the court and he was still there signing autographs

Gasquet vs Young, eh? Cool.

DY has matured in terms of his comments as well. Remember- alot of the comments that folks knock him for are from when he was around 16 years old. It seems like he has grown up a lot.

It is nice to see here that some folks who have seen him in his matches the past few weeks can actually like his game and move beyond the tiresome bashing of him and hopes that he will never make it into the top 20, etc.

I am not saying he will be the next great player- but from what I have seen- the kid does have game and talent.

I did not see the match today, but saw him last year against Djokjokovic and purely on the tennis skills he is up there with the very best in the world. The problem is that Federer, Nadal etc are not only brilliant tennis wise, but also brilliant athletes; which Young is not. Some of the shots he did in the Guccione match were truly brilliant though.

Great win for Young. It's hardly surprising, considering Guccione's form atm and Young's results this year.

However, 6-3 6-2 6-3 is really weird for someone with Guccione's serve. I guess he really underachieved :o

Shame to see the Gooch struggling today, after the first set his lack of match practise, particularly on hard cost him, when he drops his serve more than three times in a match you know he's struggling. Volleys were bad as well but if he finds his January form he'll be back :yeah:

Well done for Young winning his first GS match, but I wouldn't get too carried away with this result, showed some nice touches but much harder tests for him than a badly out of form Gooch

Good to see that DY has learnt from the arse kickings he received when he was on the tour before he was ready, the Berlocq experience humbled him for sure.

He still has a lot of dvelopment to go, but he is winning matches on tour now and good that the player with a bit of variety defeating the Ronald McDonald serving machine.

Go easy on the Gooch, hes just a headcase with no confidence, one day he might get it together. He nearly beat Djokovic in the final in Adelaide this year.

N1 Young, a probable top 100 player in the near future.
