It's stressful to wait for the draw...it's this morning I think. *praying*

Interview yesterday:

Non.

I hope he manages to hold on to that motivation he's talking about (I think), and stays focussed. I hope he will make it at least to 4th round!

I get anxious when it's a qualifier first round because you can't be sure who it's going to be... occasionally there are some very good players returning from injury hidden in the quallies and then there is the fear of playing unknown new players.

:)Peta

Lizan
05-23-2004, 02:43 PM
yeah I was thinking the same exact thing.
Seb won't play tomorrow.. Or I overlooked him, but I don think so.
He will play a Kevin Kim from USA.. Never heard of him

Marine
05-23-2004, 02:47 PM
I won't see him playing wednesday, but if he wins his 2 first matches...I'LL SEE HIM AGAINST SAFIN ON SATURDAY !!!!!!! (crossing fingers)

Lizan
05-23-2004, 02:53 PM
Oh yeah, Marine that will be a good match, Safin - Seb!! Will be good fun!! I hope in Seb's favour!! I really wonder if he's in good shape. I hope he is!

Hi Marine!

I hope you get to see Seb beat Safin on Saturday!

Hey guys! I've been around, checking the board every now and then. have followed all Seb's matches. I'm so hoping that he does well with this Open. I know this is the one he wants to win!

Does anyone know how to translate the French interviews? I'd love to be able to know what it is he's thinking.

Take care everyone, and don't forget to cheer! (Even if it's in your head and you're on the other side of the world!)

Translations?? Esther always translates the interviews from his site and the interviews from Roland Garros, u just have to go to the english version of the RG-site..

wilma

I usually use freetranslation.com for the rough work, to get a general idea; Esther's translation is for the much required fine tuning :)

Good luck to Seb today. ALLEZ!!!! :D

I'm impatient

Just a few more days for Sébastien Grosjean. The number one french player will start his Roland Garros campaign without too much pressure, but with a lot of motivation.

How are you feeling about Roland Garros, which is going to start in a few days?
Yeah, alright. Ive been playing pretty well for the past 10 days. I had a virus for a month and half which was prety difficult, with the tournaments i went to and didnt do too well as i hadnt prepared enough. I've spent more time on the court. I'm lookign forward to starting the tournament, which is got to be a good sign.

Do you have any particular goals?
Nah, not really. I want to use these 3 days i have left in the best way possible. I'm goign to try and prepare the best i can. Illl be even more motivated when i actually start playign the matches.

For a French player, Roland-Garros is a special tournament. What do you think?
Yeah, but it's not just about the pressure, its more about the motivation and the fact we can play in front of a french crowd. Theres no pressure, just the desire to play well.

Isnt it difficult to start Roland-Garros without much match practise on clay?
Yeah but the motivation is there to do well. We'll see what happens during the first rounds. If i can get a bit of confidence during the earlier rounds, we can hope for the best.

The French players in general havent played many tournaments on clay before RG. Why do you think that is?
There are several reasons, the first is that we dont play that many tournaments. Personally, every year i play 3, the three master series events. During these tournaments, there are the best players and the players who will do well at RG. We dont play on this surface all year. The winter preparation we play on hardcourt, in contrast to the Spaniards who are able to play on clay. There are few French players who go to South America. To prepare well for RG, you have to play the best clay courters and in order to do that you have to play the TMS clay court events.

How do you think this week will go?
This week is important because we can structure our training specifically with the other players who arent playign this week. Its a test, but its not official. And then we're expreriencing all the anticipation and see all the quallies matches and everything like that which happens before the actual tournament starts.

So far it's going great 6-1, 6-1... fingers crossed for the 3rd set.

Looking good :) Very frustrating having to watch it on a scoreboard rather than on TV though - stupid Australian TV networks :(

Peta Pan

YAY he won!!! GO SEB.

Glad to see he sorted through those concentration problems and got his mind back on the job :)

Now I've just got to get Jonas through and I'll be right. Actually, that's not correct because I notice Benneteau, Soderling and Kucera are playing too - I can't believe all my favourites are playing at once!

BTW Wilma, how long is the hair? You mentioned it was longer - but it isn't really long again is it?

Marine, I'm so sorry for you.. I know you looked foward to seeing that match..

So I was thinking (yes...) why is Seb loosing against a qualifier in his favourite Slam in the city were he has a house?????? Why? So I think I found the answer.

If he would have won today, he would have to play this Saterday. Now I think that he wants to have a party for once on his birthday which is this saterday!

Nah seriously I don't understand why he's loosing to qualifiers, but okay.. I'm very dissapionted, but i had the worst day today so right now I can take it.. But when today was a bad day, means that tomorrow will be a better day then average.. So yeah.

He's a darling, even if he loses in a painfully embarrassing way to an unknown Italian...and wears what is probably the ugliest tshirt ever in the history of tennis! Come back, old Lacoste thsirts of yore, and please forgive me for ever lashing out at the strictly conservative design! I didn't mean it! I don't care if the new tshirt is partly red, it looks absolutely hideous, and it does zero for him - and he used to look so sexy and cute...

just to edit your profile ,ulla.
actually ,i stayed up late watching this match.although i support Italia(it's among the three teams i support.that is ,FRANCE ,ITALIA,GERMANY  ) ,when i saw the Danish players running so aggressively on the stadium ,you, ulla , came into my mind coz i thought that you were also watching.obviously,Fabio Cannavaro's new style couldnt save the passive situation .

ubrunjensen
06-16-2004, 12:35 PM
Actually, I'm not terribly patriotic at all! I support Portugal and Spain, but would still like to see Denmark do well, so watching my national team outplay the Italians was quite a pleasant surprise. We all thought they were going to get a humiliating beating, I mean, Italy, for crying out loud - they're supposed to be really good and dangerous! But I really think Denmark cut a good figure, they deserved to win all 3 points, but ok, a draw is also acceptable, especially if they beat Bulgaria and Sweden.

Italy? I really enjoyed their magnificent defensive style four years ago, when they beat Holland in the semis, in quite a miraculous way. But they didn't really look good the other night, did they? And poor Cannavaro: how could he shave his head completely? He used to be quite goodlooking. I actually fancy Zambrotta, the left back, can't really explain why - he's not handsome in the least...or very charming...

But I want Portugal and my beloved Figo to win. Seems to be an uphill fight from now on, as they lost to Greece - the agony - how could they? Now they really have to beat Russia today. I'm rather scared that they won't. Spain - well, I've been in love with Spain since I lived there for a while lots of years ago, so I always support their national team and their tennis players, and I absolutely adore Real Madrid and Raúl. They never do well at big international tournaments (the football team, not the tennis players), but I keep hoping they will, one day soon...

Tell me again: why do you like Germany??? I know you like Bayern Munich, but still...
France I understand - they have a super team - and I never can forget my old love, Platini - Italy is okay, more so-so. Nesta is a very good defender, Buffon quite a spectacular goalie, but Inzaghi? I hate the way he always dives in order to fake a penalty or free kick!

I'd better stop now before I forget that this is a tennis forum dedicated to Grosjean, not a place to discuss obsessions in football!

But it's nice to see that more people than myself also watch the Euro 2004!

Their chances aren't that great anymore! That's just so typical of the Dutch soccer team: they start fighting when it's almost too late :( But it was a great match against the Czechs, and although I had predicted a 2-1 victory for the Czechs, I was extremely disappointed with the final result (one always hopes, of course).

Lizan
06-23-2004, 01:45 PM
Yeah they still have chances!! I hope the Czechs beat Germany, and Holland beats Latvia.. But Wilma, they started really good juist.. (woops dutch word)

Anyway goodluck tonight dutch team and czechs win pleazzz!!

Well Id like to see England win Euro 2004 of course being from Britain. To achieve this Id preferably want the poorer teams to be involved in the latter stages and I think we'd have a much better chance against Germany than Holland. Thats the only reason - nothing against Holland :)

LOOL okay cool..
Yeah Beckham, I saw that match against France.. you know normally I'm not this big football fan, but when it comes to national team, I'm all for it.. I think England actually should have won that match. But I didn't really cared who won, France of England, both good..

Yeah we should have won that I agree - very disappointing end! A lot of the blame has to fall on Emile Heskey for giving away the Zidane free kick in the first place. and obviously the pathetic Steven Gerrard backpass!

Well, we're (that's the Netherlands) are through! I must admit I hadn't expected it, as the Germans are always lucky and never give up. I'm tipping the Czechs as the next Champions; they're excellent.
Lizan, how can you say the Dutch team started well? That first match against Germany was horrible! They were lucky to equal the score. Or didn't you mean the first match?

U see?!! I'm always right!!

Yeah Wilma I meant the match against the Czechs.. Coz they were really good at the start. Yeah I was kind of surprised too.. I think it's sooo nice from the Czechs that they really wanted to win, eventhough they were already through!! They really deserve to win after Holland of course :p

Lol Stella you were right!

Denmark and Sweden had to play 2-2 and Italian's then would have no chance to pass the group stages!
Do you think they had a secret agreement to play 2-2, cause the Swedish goal for 2-2 was a bit strange (goalkeeper trowing the ball in front of Sweden's player)!

okay, even though Italia is my favorite team, i'd say whether or not they had arrived an agreement, it was Italian themselves who created the depressing result coz their states were far from satisfactory in the 1st two matches. i'm sorry to be so direct and so critical, but they have hurted my heart so severely.the only thing i'm sorry for is Cassano's tears.he was so innocent.i kept my eyes widely open during the whole match(den-swe).the result could be strange, but the whole process was more than normal!

the first game against Denmark was really bad performance, but I think they played good against the swedes, just unlucky not to win!

that's the fastest change from the happiest person in the world to the saddest I ever seen!

but Sweden's goal for 2-2 was a bit strange, you have to admit it! Sorensen defended his goal so good the entire championship to make such a big mistake on such an "easy" ball!

Oh really?? I didn't see the match.. But that's soo sad for Itali then. It's the same situation the Netherlands were in I suppose?
It's too bad, a team who's already through don't HAVE to play good. They should actually have to fight for something, that would make it really fair!!

I have to ask, do you think that Scandinavian match (2-2) was a set up? :nerner:

How pathetic is that! The Italians always seem to think someone else is to blame for their own blunders! Last World Cup it was the ref, of course, and now it's a conspiracy theory...Well, I completely understand if they're disappointed, and of course the score 2-2 must look a bit odd, but even if I am a Dane and naturally supported both Denmark and Sweden, I simply can't believe that any sane person who watched the match in question can seriously think for one moment that the outcome was the result of pre-arranged matters between the two teams!!! And what's so strange about the second Swedish goal? I've often seen our national team play, and believe me, Thomas Sørensen is often at the mercy of his rather unreliable defense and also fully capable of misjudging a ball himself. Sometimes he's brilliant, sometimes he commits the strangest errors...

And no, I'm not in the slightest upset that you guys can think the Scandinavian teams only progressed because of foul play!!! LOL ;)

I actually like the Italians, but honestly, did they really play to their full potential this summer? They looked like zombies in the first match against Denmark (we couldn't believe our luck), and even if they rallied somewhat against the Swedes, they still couldn't get a winner - Sweden??? Yes, they have Henke Larsson and Zlatan, and their goalie is very good, but still...the Italians ought never to have put themselves in such an awkward position! They should have done the job in the first match. But they were just like the Spaniards, awfully disappointing!

Poor Stella! I know the bitterness of watching a beloved team go down...but console yourself: Italy will be back for the World Cup 2006, I'm sure, they'll always be a great football nation. :)

As for Lizan's question: I think Holland and Czech Republic will meet in the final. I love Portugal, but they look shaky to me, and Figo and Rui Costa are getting old. No offense, but then I believe that Pavel Nedved and his troops will win the title in the end. Sorry about that, Holland! ;)

Yes, I'm quoting myself and I'm still fully behind the Czech team. They have excellent players (Baros :p , Nedved, Koller), and it's a delight to see them play.
I don't think we (i.e. the Netherlands) can win the match against Portugal. So, the final will be Portugal-Czech Republic.

Greece - it's a scandal! But the Czechs played differently - don't know why they suddenly decided to change tactics and be all careful - but it sure backfired for them! Oh, the stupidity of it all - and the cruel blow in silver goal overtime! But the Greeks proved to be the wisest, they played cleverly, and the Czechs did not, so there you are...
Still disappointed, though, about the poor Czechs. Now I really hope, more than ever, that Portugal will win tomorrow.
