Day 3: 1300 hrs (1100 hrs GMT)

Couldn't see a thread for this. Looks like Australia will be battling in the zonal groups next year, as I can't see them winning this. What a sad indictment on the state of Aussie tennis..

Why? Novak can win both of his matches but Hewitt should defeat the other Serbian and doubles is for the Aussies to take. The Gooch is pretty dangerous on clay, be sure.

Hopefully this time around TA will not repeat their Belgium mistake and play Guccione as no 2. They should know by now that on clay, Luczak is a much better and dangerous player. They left him out in Argentina, they lost. But putting him on the dead rubber against Chela and he won. But as he was only hitting partner, Australia still went down officially 5-0.
As far as Janko and Luczak comes they are ties 1-1 challengers on clay 2004. Losing to one another in the finals.

My prediction is that
Hewitt will beat Tipsarevic
Djokovic will beat Guccione
Aus wins doubles
Djokovic beats Hewitt (just)
Luczak beats Tipsarevic.

Aus win 3-2

After Gooch loses they SHOULD let Peter play!!!

Guccione > Luczak.

 Not with the way Chris is playing at the moment.

We are absolutely screwed, i just can't see us having a chance, novak will win both of his matches and i can't see peter beating janko either.

They should pick Luczak, but I can see them picking Gooch.

If we win the doubles theres a chance. Theres also some kind of improbable chance that Hewitt will beat Djokovic. I have no faith in Guccione right now but hes still better than Luczak, a lot better. It is a sad day that we can say with confidence that we have little chance against a nation half our size. We are supposed to be the small nation beating larger nations damn it.

Funny how you think that Guccione would be a better choice. He has won 4 matches this year on clay compared to Luczaks 34. Guccione has only won 21 matches this year, and they have been playing pretty much the same level events, apart from Gucciones USA stretch at the beginning of the year where he played alot of high profile events. They have such a different style and on clay, especially if it is slow, as it was in Belgium where they picked Gooch, I think we all know the outcome.

I agree with Andreas. They should pick Luczak but they probably will pick Guccione.

Unfortunately our boy luczak has got a though draw this week in Bucharest, lets hope he can get through this one and show all doubters that he is the man to pick for DC ties on clay.

Peter lost 64 36 64 to Igor Andreev who is a top clay courter. Gooch lost in straight sets to Ivan Navarro (ranked 99). Although they both lost surely Luczaks effort must prove him right for this tie. It is not going to be easy, but I think Australia will have a better chance with Luczak

Indoor, outdoor, doestn't matter, it's still clay, not hard, not grass. And although I like Guccione as a player I really don't rate him on clay unless it's on serious altitude so that he can serve his way through, like he did last autumn in South America.

Suppose that's great thing about tennis, not all favour the same guy.

Funny sidenote the Serbian DC captain Dejan Petrovic was raised in Adelaide. He was the guy that was part of the famous Hewitt rant when they played in Adelaide and the crowd supported Dejan and Hewitt called the crowd idiots.

We both have a point, and it's okay, really. I just think indoor conditions favor too much the big servers and Guccione is a huge server.

Where can i watch this on TV?
The entire tie isn't broadcasted live which is pathetic considering in some cases, Seven are airing movies and other not very important things. The tie is actually played around the lovely hours of 8pm, 10:30p.m and 8:30p.m each day but obviously tennis should be buried in the late hours when no one's watching.

They better show it on tape delay rather than cutting off the beginning.

Brisbane:
Day 1: 12am - 4am
Day 2: 11:30pm - 1:30am
Day 3: 11pm - 3am

Sydney:
Day 1: 12am - 4am
Day 2: 12am - 2am
Day 3: 11:45p.m - 4am

Melbourne:
Day 1: 11:30p.m - 3:30am
Day 2: 12am - 2am
Day 3: 11pm - 3am

Adelaide:
Day 1: 11pm - 3am
Day 2: 11:30am - 1:30am
Day 3: 11pm - 3am

Perth:
Day 1: 11pm - 3am
Day 2: 12am - 2am
Day 3: 11:45pm - 4am

I understand the first day not being live because of the footy finals but considering the 2nd day isn't live (it starts at 10.30 for crying out loud) and the 3rd day (possible live lleyton/novak match would be an absolute blockbuster) is really quite sad. Poor effort from seven, i just hope show both matches in full, i would rather watch it in full a bit delayed then cut some of it.

Some quotes from Tipsarevic:
"I took two weeks off to recover and felt no strain during practice over the last few days so I should be fully fit to play on Friday if selected," Tipsarevic said.

Pfft! Australia once had the best tennis players, Since Bec entered Lleyton's life, his career has been on a brick. very poor performances lately, and I don't see him winning any matches against Serbian in Belgrade. I hope Serbia wins this, they are favourites to win this. Djokovic is going to play great here, I hope every player from Serbia does well.
