GAMBILL WILL MAKE HER DEBUT

Auckland,AUS -- The American competing will play his first match of the year in this week, in Auckland at Henineken Open.

http://www.tennisroundup.com/163_Sm2ITC05Gambill.jpg
"I am very happy about being allowed to be here. I feel this a big opportunity for me. Rebound Ace is my best surface, so I want to reach the semis at least. My final aim though it, that I attain a good result at Australian Open."

Jan-Michael was injured in the past months, they were his troubles with his shoulder.

"A period was heavy, but fortunately I am healthy and I want to win now."

Jan-Michael's first opponent will be Wawrinka or Ferrero. Good luck!

Meligeni shows his big heart in benneficient event in Auckland

http://www.proshoptenis.com.br/patriocinios/03.jpg

Auckland (NZL) - Brazilian Fernando Meligeni gave a big show of his great heart at a benneficient event in Auckland, where the first FMTL tournament of the season will be held. He played some tennis with poor children of New Zealand, bringing into their faces wonderful smiles. Fininho always liked to do this kind of showness, and he cancelled morning training just to take part into it. Guests at the local were also very curious about seeing the interior of "Fininho I - Vamos Brasil", the ship where he traveled in from Rio de Janeiro to Auckland. Let's see if the intense practicing will have immediate results. Well, he'll at least have the support of Auckland's kids.

More information at Meligeni's official website: www.vamosfininho.com.br

Bjorkman Ready To Take On Auckland

"I'm looking forward to it."
This was his opponing comment to the press during his press conference in his hotel.
"You know, I've got as much chance as anyone. I think I can play my game."
He's trained. He's ready. He's tough. Watch out for Jonas Bjorkman.
He wants to grind it out. His goal is to win five-setters.
"Yeah, those are fun matches, I wish to play as many of those as possible."
He figures fifth sets advantage him.
"I'm old, but I'm in shape, I run well, they get tired, the young folk."
We'll see how it pans out in Auckland, an international series event.

Rules if both players have the same points in a set:
7-6 (8)* means that the players had the same points in a set.

- The one which wrote the most articles wins the set.
But didn't write articles:
- If one sends points for the tournament, and the other didn't.
The one which send new points wins. For the 1st tournament on a surface everyone has to send new points. So for this tournament it isn't a rule
- A Coin Toss
But if there are 2 CT in a match, both will win 1.

I hope you all like this :scared:

Fininho rests at the beach the day after his debut

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/b0/Meligeni.jpg/450px-Meligeni.jpg

Nothing better than relax in Auckland beaches. At least that's the thoughts of Fernando Meligeni, who faces Mischa Zverev in his first match of the season. Meligeni is being a sensation at New Zealand, earning more and more fans by being such a nice guy. Local junior players got excited with his presence, as they improvised a "beach tennis court" and played a doubles match.

http://www.fitsardegna.com/media/FITSardegna/Gallery/Simbolo-beach-tennis-azione2.jpg

Meligeni and his partner, Josh Ymegantuashytan defeated two other guys 12-10 in a super tiebreak. Josh was such happy after the match:
"Man, it was such an experience to partner him! He's so cool and I'll cheer for him in this tournament for sure! He also gave us entries to the first 3 days of matches!"

Meligeni will play tomorrow the last match of centre court, in the evening session. Auckland TV will cover the match, and for Brasilians, Meligeni's coach will provide a livestream direct from his cell phone.

Hewitt Ready For Nieminem Challenge

http://www.theage.com.au/ffximage/2004/12/30/wbhewitt_wideweb__430x315.jpg

Australia's Lleyton Hewitt has arrived in Auckland and is ready to take on Finland's Jarkko Nieminem in the first round of the Heineken Open.
"You know, it's going to be tough out there. Rebound Ace is not Jarkko's favourite surface but I've been watching him practice and he seems to be hitting the ball really well."

Hewitt - a good friend of Casey Dellacqua on the WTL tour - expects big things this year on the tour.
"I want to finish the year ranked in the top eight, and I really think that is achievable. So yeah, end of year champs is my goal for sure!"

No CT, Ferrero wrote an article, bad luck Gigi

Rules if both players have the same points in a set:
7-6 (8)* means that the players had the same points in a set.

- The one which wrote the most articles wins the set.
But didn't write articles:
- If one sends points for the tournament, and the other didn't.
The one which send new points wins. For the 1st tournament on a surface everyone has to send new points. So for this tournament it isn't a rule
- A Coin Toss
But if there are 2 CT in a match, both will win 1.

I hope you all like this :scared:

Fired Up!

Gosh, this rule sux. You know I enter here once in 3 months, so i have no chances of writing articles. Though I had wrtitten a pre-match one but when I posted it, you had already posted my results so I had to delete it :o Nevermoind, I'll win a match in the next tournament though I have no idea of putting points in 5 sets :p

Public's favorite wins though opener in Auckland

http://www2.raisport.rai.it/news/sport/tennis/199906/01/375407b105ce2/meligeni.jpg

After a long travel by ship, filantropic events with children and beach tennis exhibitions, Fernando Meligeni finally went to court. And it was successful. In the last match of first day action, Fininho defeated Mischa Zverev in last set TB after being 1-2 sets down. At the end, he won 6-3 4-6 4-6 7-6(5) 7-6(5).

"I'm so happy with this win. All i did was fight, fight and fight, and it was worthy. Mischa played so well, but i think the key of my victory was the 4th set tiebreak. I thought i was done, but fortunatelly i stayed alive."

"Also, I'd like to ask for the other players to vote for Rio de Janeiro to hold the Olympics. That city is wonderufl, I had already been there and I can guarantee you: that's the most beautiful city in the world! You'll not only see great matches there, but also, wonderful beaches (full of wonderful hot girls, by the way) and a wordless shiny sun. VOTE FOR RIO DE JANEIRO!"

At that moment, Meligeni started to sing to the fans:

Meligeni's practicing didn't finished: fans were so excited!

http://www.vitoria.es.gov.br/diario/2006/fotos/fernandomeligeni_01en.JPG

Fernando Meligeni's fame in Auckland made his training session shorter. After 1 hour hitting balls with his coach Ricardo Acioly, a big crowd started to look for pictures and signatures of him. Being a charimastic player costed him today

Probably tomorrow he'll face Swede Jonas Bjorkman, which can be considerated the favourite due to the surface.

VAMOS FINO!

Tim Henman is ready to play in Auckland after having practiced with his coach today and later answered questions to the media.

http://www.tennisserver.com/images/atp2004/henman/IMG_0604sm.jpg

What do you expect from tomorrow's match against Stefan Edberg?

Well, I don't expect long rallies . I practised a lot of returns today, I think I'll need a good return game tomorrow...

How was your trip to Auckland?

It was quite a long trip, but nowadays with all the comfort of the airlines etc. it has become much better. I can't see why some players still come by ship, if you have such great possibilities :p

What will you do tomorrow before your match?

I will hit some balls with Fernando Meligeni, he's a good friend. (I hope to meet him in Semis and then beat him :p) Then I'll have something to eat and wait for my match.

Thanks for your questions and wish me luck for tomorrow :wavey:

Djokovic Through To Semi in First Event
http://i86.photobucket.com/albums/k89/xXxPosterGirlxXx/Novak%20Djokovic/Nole1.jpg

Auckland, NEW ZEALAND-- Novak Djokovic is through to the semis of the Heineken Open in Auckland. The 20 year old beat Flavio Saretta, in a five set thriller 4-6 7-6(5) 5-7 7-5 6-3 on Thursday. It was a tough match for both players, each playing fantastically and there was barely anything between them until the ends of most sets when one of them took there chances and was able to break. That all changed in the final set when Djokovic won the final 12 points of the mach to take it. "It was a tough match for me. He just kept fighting, there was nothing in it until the end when I was able to win the three games easily for the match."

The Heineken Open is the first event of the FMTL season and the first event of Djokovic's career. "It's great to get to a semi in my first event of the season. I'm very happy, and I know I can go further. I will be in the top 5 after this event, and I would love to keep that up, to get a top 4 seed for the Australian Open."

Next up for the Serbian is Juan Carlos Ferrero tomorrow morning, "JC is a good player, I seen the end of his match and he can play well, but I noticed some weaknesses and I will work on that." Because of the rain delays today the final will also be tomorrow, and if Djokovic survives the Spaniard, he will either face Goran Ivanisevic or Roger Federer. "I know Roger very well, once the doubles start I will be playing doubles with him. It would be great to play him in the final, an awesome opportunity for me."
