Since I only started posting my plays (mainly football & tennis) at the back end of last year after registering on MTF in August 2006, the coming weeks represent my first chance to post a full season of recorded football plays here. So in this thread that is what I shall be doing, recording the season in full (every football play I make, regardless of which league/competition/age - including all types of plays from match plays to outrights to specials and other markets if I feel there is something out there).

I will be posting my plays on a basis of a level of 1-10. 1 unit = £100 representing an "interest" play, with 10 units = £1000 being a max play.

Even though a few of you know privately I no longer play the game as a pro due to various factors from burnout to the opening of other doors in the sporting world, for the rest of you that is the reasoning behind a max level of £1000 per play. I am looking for relativity and consistency over the season and even though I like to branch out every now and again with a "Heavy Duty Single", which in my language represents a stake over the £1000 limit I am setting here, I shall no longer be making any Heavy Duty Single plays to keep up a relatively consistent staking plan regarding the max play limit.

From August my MTF use is likely to be sparing, so the time I do spend here will be mainly to continually keep this thread current and updated. I welcome any questions on matches, any exchange of views and even any criticisms (but please keep it constructive :hatoff: ). :D

Enough talk from me, to kick off the 2007/2008 season which I shall conclude no later than the Copa Libertadores Final 2nd leg (to be played in late June 2008)...here are my first two plays of the season.

The books I generally use are WH, SJ and UB. I do not use BF and I will not be for reasons previously stated. There will be good days and bad as you all will know, the aim is long term and as long as there is a healthy profit come June next year that will be the litmus test. Totals will be recorded in simple fashion on a money out - money in business. My previous play on Argentina OR @ 7/2 for the U20 WC will not be taken into account here as the play was made before this adventure begun. So in terms of this thread, that potential win is irrelevant to me.

Level 8 (£800) Argentina to beat Czech. Rep (U20WC Final) in 90mins @ 8/13
Potential payout (SI - Stake Inc.) - £1292.31

Level 3 (£300) Rosenborg to beat Viking @ 4/5
Potential payout (SI) - £540

Current Record: 0-0 (-£1100)

Hopefully the season will start on track and the base can be built from there, we don't want to be chasing shadows early in the season.

The season won't truly be in full swing until late August/September, so there won't be daily plays or even every other day until that point. A match I'm eyeing up a possible max play next week is the second leg intertoto match between Atletico and Gloria. Atletico trail 2-1 and you would expect them to put the Romanians to bed. It will be a short price as you would expect, depending how short will determine how I approach it. If there are any other plays between now and next week, obviously I will post them here.

Just a further couple of things; there will be no in-running plays made in this thread and the W/L record will be recorded in transparent a way as possible. Meaning that the W/L will record bets won/bets lost. There will be no padding of stats here, for example should a treble be bust by one team, it won't go in the records as 2-1 (two teams won, one team didn't), it will simply go down as 0-1 (bet lost).

Now for another play...

Greece to win U19 Euros!

They have a couple of suspensions for the final as do the Spanish. They have a very good player in Ninis, but not much else in my view. Germany should have put them away yesterday at 2-2 playing for 20+mins with a man extra but they completely blew it.

I think Spain will end up victorious but the Greeks have proven to be a very durable outfit in this tournament so maybe they can spring another surprise. They drew 0-0 in the group phase and it's likely to be another tight contest.

Two plays for today. First up Atletico. Failure to win and qualify today will be an absolute disaster for them. I toyed with the idea of halving the stake and playing the HT/FT, but in the end have opted for the outright max play. Atletico can win and still go out (3-2 for example), but I'm only concerned with them winning, which they should.

Not sure about tomorrow, still looking at a few things. Considered an interest cover on the Asian Cup Final but the covers haven't been working for me of late and I'm wondering whether it is worth the play. I suspect not. Also looking at taking Valencia over PSG. PSG played their full side today for the full 90 and with the French league starting next week, I doubt they will be doing that again tomorrow. Valencia were impressive today and used a mish mash of their full XI and squad, tomorrow is likely to be the same kind of deal by all accounts.

All in all, I may make a small play on Valencia tomorrow. I'm going to sleep on it and see if there is any further info on team news tomorrow lunchtime. KO is 2pm UK time. If I make the play, I will post it by 1.45pm UK time latest.

Easy :yeah: This is as close to a banker as you can get and I will be playing it myself.

Fenerbeche 10/11 Qaulify over Anderlect

As the odds suggest, 50/50 and a tough call. What's your reasoning for going with Fenerbache? Personally, you can make a case either way. I'd say avoid it and play whatever you were going to on Liverpool even though the odds are not great. If Toulouse knock out Liverpool over two legs it will be a major shock, as I'm sure you know already.

The turkish team are very hard to beat at home, this has been known through football history, a very hostile and intimidating team to visit. They actually have quite a good team and an experienced manager in zico to cause problems in the away leg. They have some has beens brazillians who are still actually quite good (ALEX & Roberto carlos)

I also firmly believe that Anderlect are a very average team, belgium teams have been very dissapointing in the last two decades.

Unfortunately I didn't get to see the match, but my GF tells me it was less about bad luck and more about Argentina being complete bollox. Sadly, every report I've read backs that up.

We're a bit soft.

I am just reading the Norwegian papers, and at least Ustari didn't make errors like Robbo and Jensi in the other match.

Carew gave them enough headaches, good win for us, but the soft side well I'd agree with it, as Norway are as subtle as lumberjacks.

Back to business, we "should" beat the Aussies with the talent available but unfortunately we have been woeful in every friendly under Basile. I hope things start to change, but if we fail to win, or even lose, I will depressingly not be surprised.

Enjoy the match. :)

Jig-Jag, this is the team you will see us start with.

Abbondanzieri; Burdisso, Demichelis, Gabriel Milito y Heinze; Zanetti, Mascherano, Gutiérrez, Insúa; Messi y Tevez

Insua is absolute bollox and has never played well in an Argentina shirt. He is not of sufficient quality to be playing international football.

For wednesday.

I considered playing Argentina against the Aussies, but I can't remember the last time we won a friendly away from home.

Portugal will win, scholari is too good a manager to let his team slip up twice at home.

Nice odds of 4/7 for portugal.

Serbia did not impress in their last match at home to finland. drew 0-0.

LAY ENGLANDDDDDDDDDDD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Biggest bet for me in a long time

Hiddink is a master tactician and england are not playing well. No owen, lampard, rooney. GERRARD is injured but will play with pain.

Cheers. :) It was a good week, the max play CL treble was the one I needed to start building some momentum again. The Uefa Cup acc looked pretty safe and blunted the progress a little.

Sometimes it falls your way and sometimes not. For example last weekend got an injury time winner from Silva. However, 2 missed pens against 9 men?

Cheers guys. :) I don't drink, BG. :p I'm going to post a little blog report of the day on KOC either later that sunday or on monday, I'll link it in the NFL/London thread on MTF if you guys are interested. Hopefully I'll be able to get some good pics and vids.

Which reminds me, I was sent a list the size of the MagnafuckingCarta of things that I'm not allowed to bring. I fell asleep going through it, hopefully I'm allowed to bring my eyes (without additional charges). And also have been ordered on what to wear. Too bad for them I'll be dressed smart casual as I have a prior meeting to go to before heading off to Wembley (although I plan on getting some Giants merchandise at the game to put on).

---------------
Dear NFL fan,

The NFL is thrilled that you will be coming to Wembley Stadium on 28 October for the game between the Miami Dolphins and New York Giants – the first NFL regular-season game to be played outside of North America.

Below you will find information that will help you when you arrive at Wembley.

Transport

Parking at Wembley Stadium is not available to people with general admission tickets, and you are strongly encouraged to travel to the Stadium by Public Transport. A residents' permit scheme operates in the local area on Stadium event days and illegally parked vehicles will be fined by the local council and may be towed away. Rail, bus and pedestrian routes have been upgraded to enable visitors to travel to and from the Stadium smoothly and safely on major event days. To find the best route for your journey, please visit http://www.wembleystadium.com/gettingtowembley .

Arriving by Train and Tube – The Stadium is served by three stations:

Wembley Park Station (Jubilee and Metropolitan lines)
Follow the pedestrian route along Olympic Way. Allow for a ten minute walk to the Stadium.

Wembley Stadium Station (Chiltern line)
Wembley Stadium train station is on the south side of the Stadium. If arriving by train from London Marylebone station, please use the White Horse Bridge. If arriving from the north, take the ramp to the platform. Chiltern Railways will be putting on special services for gameday. Information can be found here: http://www.chilternrailways.co.uk/content.php?ID=350

Wembley Central Station (Bakerloo and Silverlink train line)
Turn right and walk in an easterly direction along High Road until you reach the Wembley triangle junction. Turn left onto Wembley Hill Road, cross the road and follow the pedestrian route along the White Horse Bridge. Please allow for a brisk fifteen minute walk to the Stadium.

Buses
For more information about London Buses visit www.tfl.gov.uk/buses

Entrances

See the link below for information on entrances and how they relate to your place of arrival at the stadium. Please note that your ticket includes information on the entrance you should use for best access to your seat. For seating plans at Wembley, click here: http://www.wembleystadium.com/gettingtowembley/stadiummaps/stadiummaps

Pre Game Show Begins - 16:30
Kick off - 17:00
It is expected that the game will last in the region of 3 to 3 ½ hours

Dress Code

This game is an opportunity to show the millions of NFL fans watching on television in the USA and elsewhere in the world the amount of support there is for the NFL in the UK. Please come dressed in your Dolphins, Giants or other NFL gear to show your true colours. Many senior NFL executives will be attending the game at Wembley, and the passion you demonstrate – in your clothing, the noise you make, and your excitement at being at a regular-season game in the UK – will determine to some extent how often these games return to the UK. Please make sure you do everything you can to show how much you love the NFL – you can play a part in ensuring it becomes a regular feature of the UK sporting landscape.

Merchandise

There will be merchandise available to buy from 31 booths inside the stadium and six on Wembley Way. In addition to Dolphins and Giants merchandise there will be NFL International Series souvenir clothing for sale. All merchandise booths will accept credit and debit cards. If you have tickets for the official NFL Tailgate / Game Viewing party please note that there will be NO merchandise available to buy there, so you should aim to buy from one of the six booths outside the stadium. All merchandise booths except those on Wembley Way will be open until 21:30. If you are in London ahead of the game please note that you will be able to buy an exclusive line of Dolphins and Giants merchandise from Foot Locker and Soccer Scene, or you can preorder merchandise online from http://www.reebokstore.co.uk/stores/Reebok/nfl/nfl_london.aspx.

Has Wembley sold out for the NFL game?

Its not very popular in England...

They sold a lot in a short space of time and then increased it i believe and i think they sold out so tha twas it but not completly sure, i dont think NFL is really really popular apart from in usa offcourse but it has its fans all over the world, there must be a certain amount of fans here that watch it because sky sports are putting on so many matches on a sunday you can watch 2 different 6pm (uk time) matches of your choise then at 9pm a different 2 then the 1am game, then offcourse the monday night 1 match so they must have a fanbase to keep going with it pal

Good stuff mate.

Looking a little further ahead...what are your thoughts on Chelsea v Liverpool (Carling Cup)? I was given a tiny free bet with unibet on the outrights...I took Liverpool and this is a rather nasty QF draw, even if Chelsea aren't in great form at the moment.

What would be your advice? Try and hedge a little of it, or let it ride? :D

Thanks, and GL with your plays.

Hey Jay...

Well done with this...

Id say Liverpool at 2/7 (LADBROKES)in a must win game is a good price to hit with big cash.

Rafa has a brilliant record in the champions league and when they won the champions league they were in a very similar position like this. Liverpool are good under pressure and i feel very safe with this bet.

Celtic at 10/11 to beat Benfica is also tempting. Celtic as everyone knows are a forced to be reckoned with at home and can beat anyone. Benfica just about beat them 1-0 two weeks ago and have not been setting the portugese league alight. They have quite a good coach in Camacho but i stil reckon celtic are good things at 10/11.

What would be your advice? Try and hedge a little of it, or let it ride? :D

Thanks, and GL with your plays.

J

:wavey:

Cheers, Jez. Had a bit of a slide from 3k up recently, so looking to make the move forward again and make sure that 5 figures are comfortably reached by the climax of this long journey.

Re: Carling Cup, it really depends how seriously each of the bigger sides want to take it. Chelsea being at home to Liverpool obviously gives them the edge, but Liverpool may be out of CL by then and may be forced to take it more seriously. It's really hard to gauge that at this moment. If anything, Arsenal are the team to beat in the Carling Cup, even with such a young side.

Either way, I don't see Liverpool winning it. If they get past Chelsea, I don't see them getting past Arsenal (who have no easy tie at Blackburn, but I think will come through it).

[QUOTE=ivan;6230301]Hey Jay...

Well done with this...

Id say Liverpool at 2/7 (LADBROKES)in a must win game is a good price to hit with big cash.

Liverpool have been very unimpressive of late and even though they may win here, I don't see them qualifying now and I won't be having any money of them for their remaining CL games.

Liverpool are good under pressure and i feel very safe with this bet.

They should win, but I'm not touching it. I feel alot safer with the treble I've gone with, even though Valencia have been in crisis themselves.

I think Benfica can get a draw, they outclassed Celtic last time and only divine intervention from the keeper stopped it from being a rout. Celtic are indeed strong at home and any wins they get will be in Scotland, so they may do it again, but it's not a match that has any strong sway for me either way.

Good luck with the picks.:)

True. However, Bayern are a class above in the competition and Fiorentina should register their 1st win of the group stage at home to their Swedish opponents. Hopefully it works out like it should. :)

Spurs are a big bet for me tonight.

I have full confidence in Juande Ramos.

Spurs are simply so much better than Hapoel and at 8/11 in a must win game with berba saying today that he wants to stay the odds are lovely.

Bayern should be something like 1/7 or 1/8 to win this match but somethings up i reckon...why are they 1/4? This is a group game (round robin) and bayern dont have to win. Bolton have dangerous players like anelka, campo, nolan and davies who can cause problems. Saying that bayern really should win this, bolton have a poor manager in gary megson who has limited tactical knowledge and european experience under his belt.

But for some reason im leaving this match well alone.

good luck

Unlucky with that one. I had Bayern in a treble too. No idea what Hitzfeld was thinking taking Ribery off with 30 mins to go when he was having an amazing match (he set up both goals and was generally ripping the Bolton defence to shreds for fun), showed a lack of ambition with that move instead of trying to kill the game off

Here Goes...

Brazilian Campeonato

Palmeiras over Flumenise 9/10-

fluminernse have already qualified for the copa libertadores and palmeiras need to win to qualify. if palmeiras fail to win then flamengo who are fulimenses bigest rivas will qualify.
so palmeiras will want to win for themselves and fluminense would rather see palmeiras through rather than flamengo.

Mexican Apertura Playoffs

Pachuca over Cruz Azul 5/4

Spanish Copa Del Reye

Villireal over Las Palmas 8/11 -

Las Palmas bottom of Spanish 2nd division, really struggling. Villireal putting out a strong team tonight.
From Villareal website:

Villarreal will line up as follows (4-2-3-1): Diego Lopez; Josemi, Fuentes, Cygan, Javi Venta; Mavuba, Bruno, Angel, Pires, Cazorla, and Guille Franco.
The bench will comprise Viera and the four players subsidiary: Rocha, Feli, Kiko and Ruben.

Zaragoza over Pontreveda 4/7- Zaragoza should snap 2 match losing streak here.

Vallodid over Murcia Evs- Vallodid have held barca and real madrid at home, a strong force who wouldnt mind a decent cup run.

Scottish Division One

Livingston over Partick 10/11- Livingston finally showing the potential they should of shown earlier in the season. Yummy odds.

Well it's kind of as you were so far with the weekend plays. I really would have liked a 4th or 5th from Barca and they had many chances to do it, but it didn't come off.

So far this weekend, £600 lost on the Man.Utd/Real double, £300 lost on the Forest/Sevilla double and £300 lost on the Barca cover plays (2-0, 4-0 & 5-0).

Won £714 on the Arsenal/Chelsea/Barca treble and £650 on the Barca 3-0.

That puts me up for the weekend of the finalised plays of £164 so far, which is not alot to shout about.

Still pending is the £300 double on Milan/Boca, so hopefully your boys and my boys will make it a decent sunday. :)

And the £1000 on Boca to win the Apertura will be pending for another few weeks. If we beat Arsenal tomorrow, we'll do it, because we play Lanus at home next week and that will be the big one. Hopefully Argentinos Jrs. can do us a favour this weekend and stop Lanus from winning. They are 3 points ahead of us with 3 games to go. If we finish level on points, it's a playoff, which we'll win. :D

my boys mugs can lose to any team lately but seems that they have better chance in away matches this season. Also Cagliari is having a tough time, they changed the coach once again (I think they have changed more than 20 coaches in 10 years)

That was part of my thinking, if I'm going to back Milan in Serie A, it may as well be away from home.

Milan goals at home - 3 in 6 matches
Milan goals away - 15 in 5

When you add the fact that Cagliari are shit, you'd hope Milan will take a much needed 3 points. Inter are currently winning, so if Milan have any hope at all to catch up to them (or even get in on the mix for CL spots), then they have to start a strong run now or never.

Kaka had a penalty saved just before HT. Pirlo's FK was 30 yards out, he hit it pretty much in the middle of the goal (a touch to the right), it swerved a little in the air (left to right), but the keeper really should have saved it. He hit it true and well, which probably caught the keeper out, but if I was someone who'd back Cagliari (+0.5) I'd be fucked off (then again, he did save a penalty).

Argentinos have really done us a big favour holding Lanus away from home 0-0. The Apertura is still in Lanus's hands, 4pts ahead, 2 games to go. But at least now we have the chance to cut the defecit to 1pt next week and at least force Lanus to feel the pressure in the last game (although they will be at home and we will be away against stronger opposition).

I will be taking a max play on Boca to beat Lanus next week, I hope to get a decent price of something like 8/11, but I'm expecting more 1/2. I'm confident we will win, and at least that might reduce some of the possible loss on the outright.

Should we fail to win, then that's 2k pissed down the drain on the O/R and the big match itself, so be it, this is the game we play.

I work in the sports industry in various guises. See head post.

You bet some big amounts constantly.

These aren't big amounts, the max play I've set is 1k. And for the most part I've been up, so I've been playing with "their" money.

With a better system you could win more money.

My system works for me, the proof will be in the pudding when we tally up at the end of the season. :yeah:

One for wednesday.

The equation is simple for us. Win or bust. And we still need help. Tigre can still win the title, so they need the win also. It should be an open game, we have more quality and big match experience and hopefully that will shine through. Even so, if Lanus win, the title is over for us, which would be a shame because Boca-Lanus for the title would be a great event.

I've been weighing this up since the weekend was out and I've decided to make the play. Here is my reasoning.

*This is one of those rare moments when you get to take a superior home side with something to play for at odds against. Now, why and how will Milan win...

*Milan are expected to name a relatively full strength side. The 19 man squad features all the usual suspects and Kaka, more importantly, is expected to start. Milan are the better side and at home will create opportunities to score, it's a matter of whether they can take one (and I really mean one).

*What do Milan have to play for? Pride, first place and confidence.
Pride - Milan's only home wins this season have come in the CL. They are yet to win at home in Serie A and the pressure on Ancelotti is evident (the word is he is gone at the end of the season unless Milan win CL again). Do Milan really want to go to the WCC off the back of yet another failure to win at home?

First place - Milan won't lose. So they will either win or draw. Celtic only need the draw but are not good enough to keep Milan from creating chances. We need Milan to take one of those 1st half chances, which will open the game and more likely lead to Celtic conceading a second rather than getting an equaliser. I'm counting on Milan scoring in the first 60mins, if they don't, then it could be trouble as both sides settle for the draw.

Confidence - Already touched on it, Milan need to remember how to win at home and they've been doing that in the CL. Meanwhile, Celtic know full well how to lose away from home in the CL. Let me ask you this, if Shakthar and Benfica can beat Celtic at home, don't you think a relatively full strength Milan can do the same and with the bonus of taking odds against?

In addition, the draw has been marked up as fav, but why? Do Milan really like Celtic so much that they won't even try to win?

Let's look at the history - Milan's only defeat in this group was at Celtic and Dida got a clip round the ear for his troubles. Also, if Milan are too lax and manage to lose, they won't win the group! They will want to win the group, and if it's 80mins gone and it's 0-0, then sure, they will settle for the point they need and Celtic will be more than happy to take the point they need.

But I'm counting on Milan scoring, and Celtic finding it very hard to.

Good luck with that but it's risky considering Arsenal are missing their entire first choice central midfield. Their passing game just doesn't function in the same way without Cesc and Hleb. I was at the Wigan game last Saturday and the nutcase sitting behind me summed it up nicely screaming "FUCKINH HELL, IT'S LIKE WATCHING FUCKING ENGLAND!" every 5 minutes.

 Sounds like you were sitting near my friend who was at the game and getting pissed off with said moaning fans. :D

Arsenal have too much class for an abysmal Newcastle side who are even worse than Spurs at the back (and that's saying something). Despite missing Hleb, Flamini and Fabregas, Arsenal will still be able to call on Rosicky, Gilberto, Denilson and Diarra. That's more than Newcastle will be liable to handle.

I'm looking at Arsenal winning with a little to spare, hopefully. :)

Newcastle +1 6/5

Wenger has a poor record against Sam Allardyce (Newcastle Manager), odds are inflated because of newcastle's recent run.

If Viduka, Martins and Owen are fit then 5/1 for newcastle looks tempting but id rather take the Handicapp.

Liverpool for the title too. Torres, gerrard and Babel are causing havoc.

I had planned on waiting until December 21st to lock in some long term outrights, but circumstances have dictated that I pull the trigger a little earlier than I had planned.

Since the summer I was very sure Manchester United would win the Premiership. I don't usually take an OR at the beginning of the season unless there is a price that really stands out that is not likely to last for long. I didn't expect Arsenal to be as good as they have been. I expected them to play great football, but not with as much productivitiy as they have shown. I expected a straight battle between Man.Utd and Chelsea, but with the unforseen departure of Mourinho, Chelsea were thrown a bit off track for a short while, although under Grant they have got very much back on the title charge. The loss of Drogba for the next few weeks and the extended absence through ANC, as well as that of Essien, means I don't see Chelsea being able to displace Man.Utd in the short or long term.

I expected Arsenal to take at least 4pts off Newcastle and Middlesbrough at worst but with them only taking one, and due to the fact I'm not convinced they will be able to take maximum points against Chelsea this weekend, I have to pull the trigger now before the Man.Utd price gets shorter. Odds-against I'm happy with, so there is no sense waiting until the weekend is out where Man.Utd could possibly win at Liverpool, Arsenal draw with Chelsea and then Man.Utd will be in to 10/11 or even 5/6.

It may well turn out that Arsenal win and Man.Utd lose, thus providing a bigger price on Man.Utd than I am taking now, but I can't afford to wait any longer incase it turns out as I suspect.

Onto the ANC, my plan was to back both Ghana and Ivory Coast. If both sides win their groups they will avoid each other until a possible final, in which case, that's great for me. If one wins their group and other is runner up, they will meet in the QF and that will mean I've got my hopes resting on one team from the last four onwards. I believe they will both win their respective groups, hence my OR decision making. Ivory Coast are in a tough group, but I feel they will be able to edge out the competition, which includes Nigeria. Drogba will be fit for ANC in more than enough time, so I'm not worried about that. I am making the move now because both Ghana and Ivory Coast have come in from 4/1 and 5/1 respectively.

If Boca were shit then you'd be very right, but we're the best team in South America and we'll prove it again in 2008 like we did in 2007. (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=100855) :yeah:

You should. Most of them are fixed in their favour. :D:p
