If we're down 1-2 by Saturday, maybe Saretta should lead a default just like Muster. :D

A pity for Muster he's not the captain anymore, he would have been able to enjoy revenge in his own hands. ;)

Why did Austria give two walkovers in 96?

Also, is it likely Marcelo Melo will make the team for this tie?

Why did Austria give two walkovers in 96?

Also, is it likely Marcelo Melo will make the team for this tie?

The Austrian team (especially Muster) was annoyed with the crowd behaviour (people screaming in between points, insults, hisses and a guy constantly shining a mirror in Muster's eyes when he was about to serve) and alleged "safety concerns". The ITF concluded things weren't serious enough to justify the withdrawals and Brazil ended up winning the tie by 4-1 and got promoted to the World Group, and Austria was relegated.

I remember Muster saying, "I'll never come back again to this country full of animals." He actually came back more than once a few years later for Carnival in Rio.

Marcelo should pair up with Sa for the doubles, yes.

Good to see Melo/Sa in Davis Cup!
Some idea about who may play in singles?
Saretta, Mello and Alves?

And you have to fear Koubek, Eschauer and Melzer

Caio_Brasil

I think Chico Costa should take some risk. Putting Marcelo Melo or André Sá in a singles rubber would not be so stupid. Marcelo has a good serve and good volleys, but no experience on singles matches, specially 5 sets. So i don't see a problem putting André to play against Koubek, who is getting good results but is a little bit instable.

FilipeMB

If we win ONE match I'll be happy.
I doubt Saretta will be able to win even Eschauer. Not to say Melzer or Koubek.

Best thing that could happen: Sarjetta out.

We're not winning anyway, though.

Melo's serve sucks man.

Sá should play. He almost defeated Karlovic. Should be given some credit on a fast surface.

Melzer did not have problems to win this match. His serve and some good points on return games were enough to clinch it.
Bellucci's serve kept the score close. He made some silly UEs in the games he was broken, but it was not bad for a DC debut. :p
