Does anyone knows anything about nicolas almagro? He was a qualifier in hamburg masters but was out on the 1st round. Played an impressive game
and get to rattle coria and nearly sends coria home at the first round. Currently 100++ at ATF ranking but I really believe in this guy's talent. Best of luck for nico :wavey:

06-21-2004, 03:10 PM
I used to think that he would only play some futures in Spain and I was really suprised to see him playing Coria in Hamburg! He was nearly to win!
And at RG he was playing Kuerten as I remember and it wasn't an easy match for Guga ;)
I haven't seen his game yet, but I belive he may be a great player soon! He's only 18 now...

07-12-2004, 08:13 AM
Yes you are right ;) nico got talent and he is very relax and cool too
plus some impressively quick serves. He doesn't do alot of groaning in matches which i like. Lets keep an eye on nico.

07-14-2004, 05:42 PM
i met him in stuttgart this week and he and his coach are very nice...unfortunately he lost first round against squillari but i think he's got a lot of talent and promise

02-13-2005, 01:40 AM
Yes Emilita he's into quaterfinals :bigclap: which is really great. I know he plays in buenos aires after watching eurosportnews that day that he beat zabaleta. But i was wondering whom he'll be playing in quaterfinal. I'm so busy with my termpaper and exams these days i'm hardly able to browse the forum.
thanks Emilita for the info and omg the PICS.
I've searched everywhere but even gettyiomages dont have them.
VAMOS nico!

02-13-2005, 02:21 AM
So he doesn't make it to the semis but its ok he'll be playing Acapulco next.
Hey there Ponytail! Thanks for joining in nico's fan thread. Keep it coming ok.

02-13-2005, 10:46 AM
actually he's playing in Costa do Sauipe, Brazil next week (Acapulco is the week after)...he got into the main draw and he plays Santiago Ventura first round (the same guy he played first round in BsAs) so I think he'll be able to win. I like Santi too, but in this case, I'll go for Nico.

02-14-2005, 02:43 PM
Thanks for the info emilita. is so much easier with u in this thread!

02-15-2005, 09:27 AM
hahaha well unfortunately he lost 6-4 4-6 1-6...shame cos he'd beated Ventura last week...and also, he took the first set here but then seemed to drop off. Oh well...onto Acapulco now. I won't be able to update you while he's playing there cos i'll be away...sorry!

02-15-2005, 03:04 PM

03-28-2005, 08:04 PM
Great, thanks!!! I saw him there last year, but I don't speak any Spanish, so didn't talk to him or anything! Can't wait to see him there, hope all the chicos will come! ;)

03-29-2005, 10:09 AM

05-01-2005, 11:18 AM
Nico's played 2 rounds of qualis in Rome and is now into the main draw!! (He beat Sabau yesterday and just now he beat Ventura)'s great for him...wonder who he'll have to play in the main draw!

05-02-2005, 02:32 PM

Well done Nico!! I'm sorry but I want Marat to get out of his slump, so I want him to win.... *hides in shame*

05-03-2005, 11:19 AM
haha it's ok!! let's just hope Marat gets to the second round!! if he doesn't maybe u can go for Nico then?!

05-04-2005, 09:55 AM
Haha it's going to be really interesting match to watch. can u imagine nico giving marat a hard time cause he is really good on clay and does not give up easily  .but i agree with emily and hope marat win the match and on to win the title.
VAMOS nico and marat!! :wavey:

05-05-2005, 05:54 AM
Nico beat Marat 6-4 6-3!! I'm so very happy for nico :bigclap: this is a great boost of confidence for him. well marat was giving a hard time for himself but nico played better and he deserves the win.
The commentator at starsport has been comparing nico to nadal already haha..that was really cool

05-05-2005, 05:57 AM
He will meet Stepanek on 3rd round

05-07-2005, 05:35 AM

Hope he'll beat Ginepri. VAMOS Nico!!

05-08-2005, 06:23 AM
yeah! he beat Robby in 3 he plays Mathieu...will be quite tough but hopefully he can get through!!! aupa nico!

05-19-2005, 11:21 AM
nico just lost 4-6 4-6 to acasuso in the second round of st pö's a shame, but acasuso was a pretty tough opponent on clay. at least now nico has some time to get to paris and prepare...hope he has a good draw there!

05-21-2005, 02:55 PM
nico's draw in RG is pretty crap...Kohlschreiber first round and then...FEDERER :banghead: oh well, mucha suerte!

05-22-2005, 02:00 AM
omg...let's just hope he'll give roger a hard time.
Go NICO Go!!

05-24-2005, 03:10 AM
I didn't get to see the match. how was the result? did he pulled through?

05-24-2005, 03:32 AM

VAMOS nico beat federer next ok!! :wavey:

05-24-2005, 11:08 AM
haha yeah it was a good win for federer :scared: he'll be on chatrier. i don't get any tennis coverage on tv :( so u will have to tell me all about it haha...i just watch the livescores

vamos nico!

05-26-2005, 11:07 AM
well he lost in straight sets...but he pushed Roger to a tiebreak in the second set...and he even broke Roger's serve it wasn't too bad. he plays doubles later today with Monaco! vamos chicos!

05-31-2005, 08:40 AM
emily i don't get to see the live matches also only day to day highlights..what a pity.
but yeah as expected he gave roger a hard time hehe...

05-31-2005, 11:57 AM
awww totally sucks having no coverage...

nico's next tournament is going to be the Lugano challenger next week where, according to the current list, he's going to be the #3 seed! hopefully he can do well there! vamos nico!

06-08-2005, 11:06 AM
Lugano update...

Nico beat the Algerian quali Saoudi in the first round 6-3 6-0 and now plays Brzezicki. vamos!!!

06-09-2005, 03:14 PM
he has done well for a start ;) now vamos show Brzezicki the way out hehe..

06-10-2005, 09:56 AM
hmmm well he lost to brzezicki 6-2 5-7 4-6...that's a bad loss...he should have beaten him :(

07-19-2005, 01:01 PM
wtf happened? he lost 6-7 0-6 to Verdasco...

07-20-2005, 04:45 PM
Maybe Fernando played better at the time????

I mean, last week he lost to Fernando as's not such a big surprise I think.

07-22-2005, 01:01 PM
no i know, i wasn't expecting him to's just a funny he totally died in the second set. oh well...on to kitzbühel...

07-27-2005, 11:58 AM
nico beat andreev 6-3 6-2 to make it to the 3rd round of kitzbühel where he'll now face zabaleta! good luck!

08-03-2005, 07:39 AM
Nico beat Portas in 3 sets in Sopot...he now plays Nieminen who beat Puerta! It'll be pretty tough but let's see what he can do...

08-03-2005, 04:50 PM
I saw Nico in Sopot in his match vs Portas, he was getting quite angry I have to saw, he has got huge temper but it is cute :D
I took some pics, few are aviable here and the rest will be later in our shop. I'll take many more at the match vs Nieminen but I see it very hard, Jarkko is playing very well. Anyways I will also try to catch a training tomorrow, that is always better pics, but unfortunately it's not too hot here and no chance he will train shirtless :angtel:
Anyways, the pics are here:

08-04-2005, 02:29 PM
thanks for the pics olga! (what has albert done to himself?!)
yes nico has a very hot temper! he'll need to calm himself down a bit if he wants to succeed i think.
well, unfortunately he just lost to jarkko...but he was a break up in the 3rd set and he still lost it in a tiebreak...very annoying :(
i think he's playing the san marino challenger next so hopefully he can do well there...

08-05-2005, 01:27 PM
Yeah I saw this match, so unfortunate. He could win in two even bvut bit no luck at 5-4 and him serving. he got broken and in a result lost set, it really pissed him off. But he calmed down after a while and was even up one minibreak in tiebreak. MNatch of lost chances :( But many cool pics :D Here:

08-06-2005, 12:28 PM
thanks for the pics Olga!

08-24-2005, 09:11 PM
Nico in Sopot once again lol

08-25-2005, 11:03 AM
I also saw the match against Nieminen in Sopot and I must say he was bound to win. If it hadn't been for his week psycho he would have done it, I'm sure... Hope he'll improve this side of his, because he can play really good tennis.

08-27-2005, 03:14 PM
yeah hopefully...well he plays Carlsen first round at the US Open which could be a bit tough...hopefully he can make it through to the second round!!

09-01-2005, 10:06 AM
Nico beat Carlsen 7-6(4) 7-5 6-4!!! great result for him!! :yeah: he now plays Dent :scared: and I'm assuming he'll play tomorrow...mucha suerte!!! :bounce:

09-03-2005, 11:22 AM
well nico lost to dent but it was closer than i anticipated: 3-6 2-6 6-4 5-7...from what i've heard, nico had his chances to win the 4th set but played very badly at 5-5, which is a shame...but at least it was good experience for him to play on Arthur Ashe stadium...i think his next tournament is Bucharest in about a week's time.

09-05-2005, 10:12 AM
My name is "Carla"! I am 19 and I am French!
I like Nicolas Almagro!
it's my favorite player with Juanqui, Raf' and Nando!
I LOVE him since two years!

One of my pics with him...It was at RG this year!

I wish the best for him

Sorry for my english

Mi wev site for him:
and my forum:

09-06-2005, 05:13 PM
Nico Almagro is great, I saw him play against Carlsen at the Open...he is a really fun player to watch. The best part was watching him break Carlsen, and then run across the court, screaming and pumping his fist, it was really funny. I will definitely watch him again the next chance I get.

09-28-2005, 07:04 AM
Nico lost first round again :( this time in Palermo to Igor Andreev 4-6 6-2's a shame because he lost first round in bucharest too...and these are smaller clay tournaments where he should be doing well and improving his ranking. i hope this bad phase stops soon. he is playing doubles in palermo too though, which is unusual for him since he doesn't really like playing doubles...but maybe he's realised it may help him in singles too. he's playing with beto martin against galimberti and bracciali....hopefully they win!! vamos chicos!

10-09-2005, 11:43 AM
he's into the final round of qualies today in vienna after beating julian knowle yesterday, so hopefully he makes it into the main draw

he's also playing doubles with robredo

10-11-2005, 02:12 PM
well he did make it into the main draw and then promptly lost to the austrian quali eitzinger 6-7 2-6 :(

but he won in doubles with robredo so that's good for him

10-13-2005, 01:44 PM
nico's vienna venture comes to an end...they just lost in doubles to knowles/nestor (no surprises there) 3-5 1-5

he's not down on the lists to play madrid because his ranking is too low, but hopefully he gets a wc into the qualies. i wonder if he will play doubles there too

10-15-2005, 10:50 AM
he plays hernych first round at madrid'll be tough...but maybe the homecrowd can get him through
11-07-2005, 06:10 PM
but he won in doubles with robredo so that's good for him
He's friend with Tommy so he must be a nice guy... Hehehe ;) No, I never got to see him play in reality, but from what I've heard, he plays very well !

11-08-2005, 09:19 AM
He's friend with Tommy so he must be a nice guy... Hehehe ;) No, I never got to see him play in reality, but from what I've heard, he plays very well !

well he can play well...but he still needs to mature a lot on the court. he has had a bad year so hopefully 2006 will be better. for the rest of 2005 he'll just be playing 2 challengers (in helsinki and luxembourg)...hopefully he does well there!
11-08-2005, 05:29 PM
Well, he's only 19 right ? He's got lots of years to improve and show that once more, spanish tennis is really good !

11-09-2005, 10:17 AM
yeah...he's just turned 20...he needs to change his attitude a bit and mature more on the court, but hopefully he can do that in 2006. and i also think he should play more doubles at tournaments to give him more practice
11-09-2005, 04:24 PM
Well, 20 is still young. Obviously, Rafa is not even 20 that's he's alrady #2 but Rafa is special. And we should not forget the other spanish guys !

11-13-2005, 08:56 AM
nico is seeded 3 at the helsinki challenger and plays uros vico in the first round...hopefully he can do well here. vamos!

11-14-2005, 12:27 PM
Vamos Nico  !

11-18-2005, 06:49 AM
seems like Nico withdrew from the tournament

11-18-2005, 08:31 AM
yeah...not sure why waiting to hear back as to what happened. it's a shame because he really hasn't played as much as he should have recently...he needs to get his ranking up before AO. hope he will be able to play in Luxembourg next week

11-19-2005, 10:55 AM
ok...have just found out that nico's injured and he won't be playing luxembourg either. in fact, he won't play again in on to 2006 now i guess!
11-20-2005, 01:36 PM
What kind of injury ??

01-07-2006, 07:57 AM
sorry didn't realise i hadn't replied to this message! it's a knee injury, but he is getting better.

there only needs to be one more withdrawal from the Aus Open (which i'm sure there will be) for Nico to get into the main draw so it looks like he'll be coming to Australia after all! he pulled out of Adelaide qualies but i think he will come to Melbourne. i am trying to book some flights for him and his coach right now!!!
01-13-2006, 02:22 PM
;) He'll be facing Igor Andreev for his first round in AO... tough one ! But VAMOOOOOS !
01-17-2006, 09:14 AM
Poor Nico, he lost in straight sets...

01-24-2006, 11:14 AM
This week Nico plays in Santiago de Chile and in the 1st round he faces Juan Martin del Potro. Vamos Nico :woohoo:

01-26-2006, 06:38 AM
He defeated JMDP :woohoo: 7-5 6-3

In the 2nd round he faces Mexican Santiago Gonzalez. Vamos Nicolas :yeah: !

01-31-2006, 08:51 AM
well he lost in the quarters of that challenger but plays today in Viña...against Ramirez-Hidalgo. I think he lost to him in like Palermo or somewhere last year so hopefully he can get revenge this time!

01-31-2006, 08:54 AM
btw 3 pics i took of nico in melbourne...

02-04-2006, 08:20 AM
thx Emily

toobad he lost against Ruben

02-23-2006, 09:27 AM
hey guys, nico's into the quarterfinals of costa do sauipe...he beat sa in the first round and saretta in the 2nd round and now plays nicolas massu. i think he can win if he plays well
02-23-2006, 01:41 PM
He beat Saretta ? So he cud have met Juanqui... Tssss !! Anyway, good win, I'm happy for him, hope he can do better than a quaterfinal ;)

TMS ROMA news:

Rising Spanish star Nicolas Almagro opens preceedings in this year's qualifying event at the Foro Italico. Nicolas will have fond memories of Rome after his breakthrough performance last year, when he came through the qualifying event to take down one of the top seeds, Marat Safin.

His run of form continued over the last 12 months and he has been one of the fastest risers in the ATP rankings.

A natural clay court player like all Spaniards, Nicolas is this year seeded one in the qualifying event and will not be expected to face much resistance from Italy's Flavio Ciplolla. The number two seed in qualifying in also a Spaniard, Alberto Martin, who takes on Italian wildcard Thomas Fabbiano. Serbia's Novak Djokovic is the number three seed.

05-07-2006, 05:33 PM
Almagro will face Massu in R1  ;) Anyway, here's the info! ;) (MD complete) and (OOP)

MD Complete

Bye, :wavey:

05-08-2006, 10:19 AM
yikes kinda tough draw...his area has some good ppl...ferrer or acasuso in the 2nd round...

anyway, hope he can do well...good to see he made it into the main draw. vamos nico!

05-08-2006, 05:11 PM

05-10-2006, 11:09 PM
Solid win for Nico over Acasuso 6-4 2-6 6-4. :yeah:

Now take out Davydonkey!

05-11-2006, 03:02 PM
sheesh poor nico sure has a tough draw at this tournament!! great wins so far over massu and acasuso (neither of whom are easy opponents on clay) and now davydenko!!! :scared:

and then, if he happens to get through that... FEDERER! :banghead: :hysteric:

suerte nico!

05-11-2006, 06:09 PM

Now take out Roger tomorrow Nico.

05-12-2006, 03:58 AM
Has anybody seen the clay court rankings for this year?
Nico (97 pts) is in second place :) only behind Rafa (160 pts)
Massu is close behind with 95 pts

05-12-2006, 04:44 PM
Federer won the match 6/3 6/7 7/5
but Nico fought impressively today :armed: that's for sure
it was a tough match for roger ;)

05-13-2006, 01:50 PM
BUGGER! he was soooo close

but have to give him credit for pushing roger all the way and not just freaking out and losing would have been a great experience for him

he's pulled out of hamburg to rest...and then should be playing Pörtschach the week after...

05-16-2006, 03:11 AM
Alex Corretja says: «Almagro tiene potencial de sobra para ser 'top ten'» ;)

05-16-2006, 12:04 PM
interesante!! yo tambien lo creo

it's a pity he pulled out of hamburg cos he could have done well there since roger and rafa aren't there

05-28-2006, 08:35 AM
It's not new, but I just came across that article and I couldn't find it here by doing a quick search for "Biofile". Sorry if you already know it!

I saw Nico @ RG, he played a set against Gilles Simon at Benny Berthet, too bad he lost 3/6... I was at the front row, very close to him, his game is impressive !

06-03-2006, 09:01 AM
disappointing loss for Nico to Blake...I thought he would be able to go further at this tournament given his form going into it :(

but he's still in the doubles with albert portas i think

06-05-2006, 03:03 AM
Nico must be popular even without his own forum because he has a number of different threads that are for him  I know one is in French so that would have to remain separate, but I think I would join the others together  A moderator can do this for you, if you request it. I thought Nico would defeat Blake also
Maybe when he starts winning even more he can get this own Forum :)

06-06-2006, 09:24 AM
yeah I also thought about getting a separate Nico forum, but I don't know if they'd give it to us just yet...we might have to wait until he does a bit better and gets a few more fans who write regularly.

It was a shame he lost to Blake, but i'm not sure if he was 100% fit...judging by the walkover in any case, i didn't see the match so i can't comment.

anyway, hope he does well in his next tournaments

06-23-2006, 11:07 AM
He will draw Ancic in R1! I think Mario is the favourite, but I smell this could be a tight match! :)
06-23-2006, 03:10 PM
This is so unfair...

07-19-2006, 01:10 PM
2006 Stuttgart
he behaved pretty pathetic

07-23-2006, 08:13 AM
what did he do?

08-31-2006, 06:25 AM
nico had some tough draws this US hardcourt season, it's a shame for him. i watched his match against Ljubo in Toronto on French tv and in the first set he played pretty well. haven't seen him play since but he's lost to ferrer twice, including at USO, and wawrinka.

good luck to him and Nando in doubles...I think they'll play tomorrow, as they're not on the oop for today

09-13-2006, 05:04 PM
what did he do?

:haha: Maybe a similar incident to what he did against safin

I am interest to know too? The guy reminds me of loro in some ways

09-30-2006, 10:18 AM
have you info about his injury of yesterday?

09-30-2006, 03:45 PM
he got injured yesterday? so that's why he retired today?

i dunno what happened...maybe his knee is playing up again

10-01-2006, 07:44 AM
just found out it's an ankle injury

10-16-2006, 10:08 AM
he lost to fish in the 2nd round of madrid qualies :( shame he couldn't get a wildcard into this tournament :(

10-17-2006, 02:34 PM
as i thought, he was pretty pissed off at not getting the wild card in Madrid (see article in Spanish below). Basically it just says that Nico spoke on Radio Marca saying he was pissed at Santana for giving Henman the wildcard ahead of him...he thought he deserved it as much as Tim and that, being Spanish, he thought he should have got it. So now he's going to keep working hard and try and get some good results. Good on him lol

10-18-2006, 08:40 AM
It's common knowledge in spanish tennis that Nico has been always a bonehead , a real prick as person and a dirty player on court , and he keep proving it with that kind of comments.

" Que Santana se atenga a las consecuencias " is just the typical sentence of a person who acts as a bully , the same performance of a bully he showed with the linesmen in his match against Ancic at Wimbledon

A great talent wasted by his dumb head :silly:

10-21-2006, 06:29 AM
yes well here is a follow up article with santana's reaction:

Manolo Santana llama "niñato" a Nicolás Almagro

i'll translate the main bits..

Santana basically said Nico was acting immaturely and like a juvenile and that he needs to show more respect towards people. He said that Nico is a young player who has to accept that Madrid is an international tournament. 2 great players were given WCs and he is not a great player yet. He had to demonstrate that he can improve because he didn't get through the qualies.

Then apparently at some point Nico ignored Santana (i didn't know this) and Santana said that Nico was playing a game with some other ppl and when he (Santana) came near, Nico turned his back to him.

Santana said he had never had any problems with people in tennis, whereas Nico has caused controversy in a few tournaments this season..

.................................................. ..............

i think nico overreacted a bit and i really think he needs to mature because otherwise he is not helping his cause at all. he is just making himself look stupid

10-23-2006, 09:16 PM
Nico said he came into the match with a lot of problems from the previous week still in his mind. I think he was refering to the argument over the wildcard.

10-30-2006, 12:22 PM
he just beat björkman in 3 tiebreaks in the first round of bercy. now he plays tursunov...hopefully he'll have a day off tomorrow to recover from this 3 hour match

10-31-2006, 05:54 AM
I always like his intense "piss off" looking! :aplot::lick::hearts:
IMO his backhand is a bit weird and inconsistent.I always think he has enough power,he doesn't need to pull his racquet too wide after his racquet touches the ball.

10-31-2006, 10:55 AM
Nico retired when Dima was serving for match.
11-01-2006, 01:20 PM
He left the court crying... Poor boy. Fortunately, Fer was waiting for him at the exit of the court...

11-01-2006, 01:42 PM
oh really? that's no good...must've been a bad injury then
11-01-2006, 03:14 PM
Well, he was already injuried on Monday, cuz he called for the kiné during the match, but he went on and won. But Monday's match was a big one, so I guess he was tired and more vulnerable then...

11-02-2006, 08:18 AM
yes, actually i thought they would have at least given him a day's break after his 3 hour match on monday :( i was pissed off to see he had to play again at 11am the next day

11-03-2006, 04:34 PM

Here's a pic I took of Nico in TMS Toronto06

12-03-2006, 06:15 AM
last thursday nico was in barcelona (sant cugat) with tommy robredo to launch their new dunlop racquet. they had lunch, spoke with press and had a little hit out.

he'll play the spanish masters in granada 15-17 december...and will start off his 2007 season in doha, auckland and then AO.

12-04-2006, 12:59 PM
Nico has been named the "most improved Spanish player" for 2006 by the press association APT (asociacion de periodistas de tenis). There will be a gala tomorrow where he'll receive the prize along with Robredo and Ferrer who also won prizes, and other RFET staff.

I don't like hearing things like that this close to the start of the season! :speakles:

The draw for the AO's been announced and Nico will be playing Ginepri in the first round match. Not an easy draw I'd say, but Nico's seeded 32, so I hope he'll be able to pass this first-round test ;)

02-16-2007, 09:07 PM
Hi-I like Nico Almagro. Why there is not a separate message board for Almagro?
Good luck for Nicolas especially in clay season.

Hi-I like Nico Almagro. Why there is not a separate message board for Almagro?

Well, I guess he doesn't have "enough" fans... Other players have their own messageboard because there were too many topics for them in the Spanish Armada section...

02-24-2007, 02:06 AM
You mean GGL has more fans than Almagro?? It could also be 'bad press'.

Anyway, congrats to Nico for making the SF of (the cursed) Buenos Aires tournament! The last Spaniard standing. :yeah:

03-03-2007, 12:54 AM
