I am playing a match tomorrow in a tournament on clay, and I need to construct a game plan of how to play my opponent. I was wondering if somebody could help. :)

The boy who I am playing, plays double handed on both sides, and just gets the balls back deep with a medium amount of topspin. He isn't really aggressive, but doesn't miss too often. He has an average serve, average volleys and isn't a great mover; his footwork is lazy.

Oh and also, I have never played him before, but my coach used to coach him and told me how he plays.

How should I play him?

Thanks. :)

If you don't want to outgrind him, find out which wing is weaker during rally and find out if he is good at the net. If not, bring him in and pass him or force him to volley. Hard to tell you what to do since we don't know how you play either. If he has just an average serve and volley maybe you should attack if you're confident enough to do so.

Drop shit x 1000 if his footwork is shit and volleying is average.

You mean, drop shot, right?

If he is a weak mover as you say then variation is the key here. Hit your shots with variation- throw in some hard paced shots, some loopy shots deep, hit with angles, use the slice to draw him forward, move him laterally as well as side to side.

Then when you have the opening choose your moment to attack and go for it.

Thanks for the advice. I'll take it all on board. :D

Double handed on both sides - definitely seek to move him from side to side and stretch him - his lack of reach can be exposed.

I also agree with dropshotting - if he tends to hit topspin of both wings he will probably not have a good grip for handling well executed dropshots.

Varying pace and throwing in some slice is a good idea as well.

Attack his forehand, usually two handed forehands will break down.
