Poor Luczak. Now if Monfils does not get it it would really suck.
By the way Lindsayfan, for me Geneva is not that great (I live in Vaud), too liberal & small for me. I actually have swiss nationality but am a citizen of the world. Jim Jones is not my real name & I'm not american. I like Pickwicks bar though & I'm there time to time throwing darts or watching a good soccer game. I don't drink much though. I like Switzerland & Europe but prefer U.S. Both Bush & Kerry are nort as liberal as in Europe and that suits me fine. However I can't stand that clown Howard Dean. But that's not tennis so I will leave it there.

I hope one of my junior boys gets a wildcard......gael is probably the most deserving at the moment.....but it would be nicee if josselin or jo got one too. probably not likely.

Why thank you, I'm glad you appreciate my message. No, seriously, I said that because European media keeps criticizing U.S. for being conservative, as if that's a crime. Many in the media call Bush ultra-conservative when he's actually a moderate. If he's ultra-conservative then what is Pat Buchanan? Europe should stop treating U.S. as if its still its colony & realize that both societies are different. U.S. on other hand should act multilateral in foreign affairs as in Iraq & that's why I like Kerry and hope he wins the elections. I actually don't have anything against liberals, I just wanted to criticize liberals as they criticize conservatives. I'm not really conservative-I'm middle-ground just like a majority of Americans. I'm European though and proud of it too. I apologize to tennis fans for talking politics. Federer will win Roland-Garros. Allez 'Rodgeur!'

really? (the tennis part) lol... the outcome of the hamburg final will be interesting. but if federer gets up for RG he does have more maturity i think than coria to win it.

not that aussies have any interest in RG... lol.. just look at poor struggling hewitt. do the french have any interest, btw??? *sigh*........

forgive my ignorance... does richard need a wildcard?

had entry ranking been taken for RG in the last week...then Richard would have needed a WC...but since they were done a few weeks ago, he doesnt. which is good.
He will be ranked about 96 for RG. i think

Paulo (!!), Richard, Arnaud , Sebastien, Roddick and Kuerten played charity matches in Port Marly yesterday for seb's association.
(Seb played against Roddick and Richard against Arnaud)

Reactions about the draw:

Ok, I don't know where I pulled SBS from... ABC it is - that's even worse, I can get a picture on SBS but not on the ABC :(

An interview of Arnaud. The end is...

Non.

Pourquoi?
Parce que je ne le pense pas...

The last question:
You has some problems with Fabrice this winter. Don't you think your shaking of hands today could has be warmer after a match like that ?
-No

Why ?
-Because I dont think so.

Ohhhh  I have his bitterness is persistent. I don't know if it's about the DC or about the match...

The tired voice, the marked face, Arnaud Clément recalls with sadness the defeat which he has just undergone against Fabrice Santoro. For him, the victory counted in the analysis and the fact of having played the longest match in the history of tennis (6h35m!) has no importance in his eyes. His lost chances still stick in his throat. "This is the sport", he notes with bitterness...

Which feeling prevails after your defeat?

It is a big disappointment, a great frustration because I had match points and I worked hard over two days. It is a defeat which hurts me and I will not forget it anytime soon. It was a hard fight, with lots of bounces (rebounds). Fabrice defends very well, he runs a lot and he was fighting hard at every moment. His play is never obvious, he confuses you. He makes good passing shots on the important points and he does not have a serve that you can lean on. I could have won, but he deserves his victory. This is the sport... Now I have to know how to come back from this (?).

You had two match points...

I was a little nervous on the match point which I had today, I had opportunities and I did not succeed in concluding. I was tense, but what could be more normal when you are tired and when there is so much tension on the court? It wasn't only the match points. I was 3-0 up in the fifth set, but Fabrice returned well.

How did you deal with the interruption of the match on Monday at 5-5 in the 5th set?

I tried to forget and I had time to relax. In fact, I was cool and I had a good night. Physically it was ok. If you're not able to play two hours the following day, you should find a new job! I tried to come in today on the hottest court, as ready as possible to leap on every single chance. At 5-5, it is 50-50, with opportunities for both of us. The physical aspect did not make a difference, the adrenalin gave us the legs to run on all the balls.

You beat the record of the longest match in history, with 6h35m of play. How do you feel about it?

I'm completely mad! Do I get a medal for that? No, seriously, that does not worry me because tomorrow there might be an even longer match. And moreover, I lost this one. For me, you gain a place in history when you win a Grand Slam. The rest...

You had some problems this winter with Fabrice Santoro. Do you not think that your handshake today could have been more cordial after a match like this one?

No.

Why?

Because I do not think so...

If you wonder what Arnaud does at the moment...answer in l'equipe: lol

This kind of anecdot is "typically arnaudien"...

Translation:
Eliminated on the 3 draws of RG, Arnaud Clement will go to Halle on saturday for his first match on grass. Before that, he made a detour via his parents' home in Aix en Provence. The family garden broughtinto him an irresistible appeal.
"I came here for practising a little bit, and above all for eating cherries, said he. Every year I miss the crop, it couldn't last still more time. This cherry tree is probably 25 years old, he's part of the house".

I finally got ALL the pics done and reposted/organized. Nono has his own folder, so you dont have to sift through my Benneteaus or DiPs looking for the Nonoshots, lol.

so check them out, (the new digi is a LOVELY camera, has a leica lens and a kick butt zoom) http://groups.msn.com/tennispics2004

Via, its that new Panasonic (saw the adverts all over in Paris) with the Leica lens. I'll give you the specs, but the best part is that it has a sports function that lets you follow the action, but has a built in stabilizer that won't take an out of focus picture in auto mode....it just rocks. The clarity in the photos is just beyond fabulous, digi or not it beats my slr by miles.

Here's the specific make: Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ10PP

thanks for the tip michelle! i happen to be looking at the ads for the new canon s1... which also has a stabilizer but i don't think it will 'refuse' to take a bad pic!

the olympus that i've got since last xmas has all the 10x zoom and stuff that's supposed to work well for sports action. but as i've been whinging - i took lots of blurry pics in january. i don't know if a stabilizer would help, i think it's simply has a slow focus. by the time i framed the player and press the button to focus, that naughty guy (usu. arnaud) had already moved. esther seemed to do better with her pics, but i never really know which olympus she had ;)

someone's told me that you really need a top of the range (close to professional) digi cam to have that sort of fast focusing... >$1000 in your money, i guess.

I actually bought it at the camera shop rather than one of those major retail places because I wanted REAL photographer input on what features, functions etc. each camera had. This particular one was touted to me as having one of the best zoom lenses (outside of the professional ones, of course) with the quickest response in terms of AF functions. I also liked the fact that it also adjusts lighting levels and performs well in lowlight situations without flash. Its also a nice weight: still feels like a real SLR, but isn't too entirely heavy.

Its well worth the money, also helps that I use it for work as well, so now its a fully deductible business expense :p (as was my trip to Paris, lolol)

michelle... you have really sold me on that one, lol!!! now i know why you do what you do ;p

i'll see how i go with deducting tax for the current camera (seems a little weird that my work needs a new camera every year, but...) now, if only some one in paris, london or new york needs a web person, i may steal a trip too. *dream on*

tennis: how old is gael? hasn't he been around for a while (and thus approaching 'mature' age)

and what a surprise .... gaudio...... i haven't (do not have the priviledge lol) seen the match.

*In a rare moment of brilliance, she comes up with a smashing plan*

OK, Via, I propose to hire you to do my website, but we have to meet in Melbourne next January for a design meeting....of course entirely subject to preliminary discussions to take place in Paris the first week of November....with a meeting to formalize preliminary discussions to take place in late August in New York.

Does that work? I'll get the necessary paper trail started. :wavey: see you in New York.

Lovely piccie of Gael! Good point, Via - how old is he?

The final was a bit of a surprise. I know there are lots of Coria fans here, sorry guys. I thought this year would be his. I was cheering for Gaston, but I had no idea he'd do it. He's a lucky boy.

michelle - what sort of web site needs that kind of travelling??... aaah, you mean 'the grand slams of tennis' ? that must be it, lol....

i suppose irish can claim deductions for travelling to france for her website, lol...

i finally saw half an hour of highlights from the men's final.. it's rather dramatic for a major final, isn't it? (not the usual 3 straight sets with one guy too inexperienced and nervous) the highlights also showed how coria was crying at the post-match interview. argentines are so emotional.......
