Paukku bagelled Schukin last Sunday and showed some good form. He might be the better choice against Gulbis. Then Timo should get his match against Juska on Sunday.

Hey Latvians, what's Lejnieks like?

Don't worry about that, he will not play anyway :)

This topic is a bit frustrating for me, because I was planning to go to Finland, but my stupid weekend in Bucharest, where I spent a lot of money and got robbed eventually, made me not to go there due to lack of money

So, let's hope Latvia wins this one, and then there will be another match-up in September ;)

Speaking of chances to win, I think that Finns are 55-57% favorites in this duel.

Great idea of picking Paukku over Timo. He is in nice shape and I think he has a good chance of beating Juska on Sunday, if it's still a live rubber.

Ketola & Nieminen teaming up for doubles again, great. :D I think both Finland and Latvia have good chances to win but I believe in the Finnish team. Hopefully it's not going to rain, though... The weather hasn't been very good here in Tampere.

Judging from today Gulbis has to play match of his life to win Jarkko...both rubbers were very unexciting and uneven...this tie will begin on Saturday and for Sunday there should be two interesting matches. The one who takes the double will have a mental edge and likely win.

Rather easy wins for Gulbis & Nieminen. I agree with Rpp that the matches weren't exciting. The end of the second set in Nieminen vs. Juska was pretty nice, though.

The players were not satisfied with the courts. Apparently every time professional tennis is played on these courts, people complain about them. If there really is a problem, something should be done.

Nemmind, found it here (http://www.yle.fi/tekstitv/html/P209_01.html) :)

Yet another rather boring match...doubles were basically Ketola vs Pavlovs match. Nieminen and Gulbis were pretty even today but Ketola lost his side of the match really badly. It starting to look like Ketola's last DC match and he would have deserved better way for the farewell. He has been a great fighter for the team for years.

There is probably no need for further decsriptions...is was totally unentertaining doubles match. Most of the points were decided on mistakes, and some were really easy ones. Latvians started very nervous but Ketola gifted the set which made Pavlovs far more relaxed, his serving got better and after Finnish team didn't have a proper chance. This match didn't give any indication for tomorrow's singles rubbers...Jarkko knows he did everything he could and Gulbis didn't show anything new. Jarkko will not leave easy balls to the center of the court because from there Gulbis can create some power. When Gulbis is kept moving he is vulnerable. So I think the final fifth rubber between Timo Nieminen and Andis Juska will decide who likely will face Monaco in September.

The courts have been discussed a lot here in Finland, well today they were a lot better than on Friday and as there shouldn't be more rain before Sunday the courts should not be a factor for deciding rubbers.

As for the spectators, Tampere has had worst of bunch for years. Some people doesn't understand the difference of hockey match and tennis. The cheering is very negative and annoying. Without few exceptions latvians were winning this battle as well on clear margin.

As for the spectators, Tampere has had worst of bunch for years. Some people doesn't understand the difference of hockey match and tennis. The cheering is very negative and annoying. Without few exceptions latvians were winning this battle as well on clear margin.

Yeah... When I was there on Friday, I just couldn't believe that people kept walking around in the stands, talking loudly when a player was about to serve etc. :( Of course it was a minority that behaved like this but still...

I actually feel sorry for Ketola. There was a comment about him on the paper. People in the audience had been saying stuff like "why does that fat guy play" etc. Some respect, please, he has been one of the most succesful Finnish players, and played so many Davis Cups. I'm sure he's doing his best and it's not his fault that, at this moment, there barely is anyone else who could partner Jarkko in doubles.

Oh damn, Jarkko  Timo & Juho have a difficult task ahead. The best of luck for them anyway!

Sounds like the kind of flak Henman has been getting, with the media demanding him to retire, etc. These players deserve more respect

The scores are here (http://www.yle.fi/tekstitv/html/P209_01.html). They appear to be on serve at 4-3* with Nieminen serving first in the second set.

3-2 Gulbis (who's serving?)

I think Gulbis served first, so now it's Timo's turn.

Really bad luck that Jarkko was injured, it could have been a different story. But yeah, things happen so congratulations to Latvia.

Congratulations Latvia :D

I'm sorry that Jarkko is injured, though, it's the worst time for an injury to happen..

We got lucky just at the right time

As long as Gulbis is able to play Monaco shouldn't be a problem...

As long as Gulbis is able to play Monaco shouldn't be a problem...

Especially if the matches will be played in Jurmala, Latvia on our special carpet ;) And they will be played there for sure ;)

But really, we got lucky today. If Jarkko was 100% fit, it might have been a different scoreline today...

Anyhow, congratulations to our players and our countrymates, and other LV fans! :)
