I need help from the British people here!!!!

:wavey:

As you may know I'm writing my thesis for a well known dutch bycicle company. I need to give them advice on exporting to the UK. I'm working on an analysis of the UK now and got stuck.

The bikes are high quality and therefore relatively expensive. The company wishes to sell them only at specialised bycicle stores. The problem is that I don't know many. I found Halfords and their Bikeshops. I know there's a store in York called Cycle Heaven and that's it.

If you have like a chain of stores besides Halfords or something, can you share? If Halfords is the only one you know, can you please name bycicle stores in your town if you know any?

Another question: can you name me the holiday parcs in the UK? They can also be potential buyers of the bikes.

Another thing I needed to do was look for trends in the UK. I found out that you people are lazy as hell and always take the car! ;)

I AM desperate! ;)

I study International Business and Languages

Wow! Seriously? In Rotterdam?

I have been thinking a long time about following that study program myself, but I decided to go to University, as I don't want to 'waste' my education. So now I am entering the study program in International Business Administration at the Erasmus University in Rotterdam. Fewer languages, more business.. I also wanted to do European Studies in Maastricht, but that's just too far away (and I want to stay home ;)).

By the way, just a simple search with Google gets you here:

Ok Maratski I can tell you some cycle stores in London >>>>>

D2 leisure group
Evans Cycles
Condor Cycles
WJ Holdsworth
Cycle City

That D2 leisure has a few branches and Evans has more than one too, as far as I know the other 3 just have the one shop.

holiday parks in uk include Centre Parcs (they do everything there so would definetely hire cycles out to tourists), Widdicombe Park (big place in Torquay), and theres one called River Dart Adventures in Ashburton.

Trends in uk tend to be people binge drinking in uk, eating unhealthy food, watching too much satellite tv and taking football far too seriously.

Also a bad trend is is young guys about 18 or 19 who have just passed driving test meeting up to race eachother on motorways they call it "the mad mile"
where they exceed well over 100mph.

Other trends are going to famous nightclubs like browns in london and even just for one drink to tell people they have been there.

A lot comes down class system here so people who dont have the money will get credit or into debt trying to live lifestyle of someone with lots of money, I sya a trend there because its happening much more so than 20 years ago.

Also sunbedding and self tanning is huger here than ever before.

thanks for the help you two!

Martijn your future study will be more oriented at finance and economics then mine I guess. I'm more into marketing and export and of course fluent in several languages. I study across the street from your future uni ;)
btw don't you need a high average to get in there? That's what a friend of mine told me.

This is also a bit of a problem in Canada as well. It's called street racing. It peaked last year though, because of that dumb movie Too Fast Too Furious. Ours laws have scared them away now! haha

As for the going somewhere once and then bragging you've been there just for a "status" thing, I think that's everywhere because some humans could be so materialistic and sad. That they let these things rule in their lives. It's just smaller and stronger depending where you go.

Yeah, I know it will. And I actually like export, marketing and languages more, but I really want to go to University rather than HBO. I am fluent in German, French and English, and Spanish shouldn't be THAT hard to learn, so I thought it would be nice. But this study program will emphasize financial aspects more I know. The accounting part I'll hate, but I have been told it's not such a big part of the program. I have been to the Erasmus Najaardsdag to get a look at what it's like and although I hated the amount of guys there (I get along much better with girls, really ;)), especially those snobbish guys with Ralph Lauren polos and such, I knew I should give it a try. I guess I'll try to create some sort of political balance there ;) Me, a GroenLinks member (Dutch Green party) versus the VVD ugh! :p

It's not really true that you need a high average grade, although entering the program is quite complicated. There is a decentralized selection procedure, meaning that 50% of the spots available, that is 200 of the 400, will be assigned in that procedure. To take part, you have to write a motivation letter, which I have already done. This month and next month they'll be judging the letters and hopefully I'll be in the program with my letter. The only problem is, that they prefer people with an international background.

If you have a pass grade of 8 or higher, you can enter the program too. The remaining spots will be assigned by lot. With my school exams (former "schoolonderzoeken") now over, I have a pass grade of 8 or higher, so I'm still hoping that I'll be in the program without any problems ;) But I am not motivated to study for my finals now and I think it is virtually impossible to score an 8 for economics and mathematics and geography. It's possible for History, French, German and English though. I'll just keep my fingers crossed ;)

I hope the link helped out. Didn't you search yourself with Google?

I checked other websites, but not google. I think I've got the information now to continue working on my thesis. :)

I was already wondering why you had so much time to moderate the game ;)

I wasn't a grade A student, cause I was too lazy for it and still am. I'm satisfied when I pass while not having done much for it.

Ah, I always have the tendency to spend too much time on it. I know I could get the same grades doing way less but oh well.. ;)

one last thing: can you tell me which words you used for the search? Perhaps I can add the list as an appendix so that might come in handy if I'm asked about it ;)

No you'd be surprised, i have a digital box downstairs and dont watch a lot of games as I forget their on or cant be bothered sitting down watching, I havent been to a live game in ages, I prefer tennis to football and am glued to tennis on tv, my main reason i take an interest in the football is cos I bet a lot and do a lot of trebles, accumalators and coupons.

I'm bumping this thread cause i need help again :o

I'm reading some stuff about Halfords. It seems they lost popularity because of some commercial with chimpanzees in it. Was it really that terrible or is the report I'm reading exxagerating? The report says that the anti-Halfords campaign spread like wildfire and, soon, condemnation arrived from across the globe.

i think that report is exaggerated, i can't even remember that advert :o

i'm doing a big expedition on bikes next year to denmark with my friends as part of an award scheme and we have all been advised to go to halfords to get the majority of our equipment because compared to smaller shops their stuff is so much cheaper

but if you still need example of bike shops the two near me (belfast) are :

Dave Kane cycles
Bikeit

:) hope that helps

thanks lucie :)

I noticed that halfords isn't expensive. I'm suggesting to the company to contact halfords mainly cause they're so big, even if the bikes I'll be exporting are expensive.
