Yes, definitely if he wants to, last year's cut off for qualies was 722, he is ranked at #346 so he'll have no trouble.

Baccannelo withdrew so Jones is in

According to list published above, Bastl still isnt in, is this wrong, has someone else dropped out to allow Jones in.

If so, then LTA may be waiting to see if Josh makes it before handing out the WC's, as he's only 2 more WD's away from being in as of right, tho' who they would give the extra Wc's to I have no idea.

If he does make the cut off, then Marray and Baker will get 2 of the WC's presuming they want them

The other 2 will possibly go to Kasiri, Childs, or whichever junior they decide is the flavour of the month

Surbiton (Both SE spots cleared)
OUT: Delic, Lu, Philippoussis (and Carlsen, Gambill, Baccanello, Lugassy, Ouahab, Stoppini, Smeets from ALT)
IN: Bastl, A.Jones, Stadler, Goodall, Tourte
NEXT: Baker, Vemic, Marray, Burgsmuller, Niemeyer, Bopanna, Vico, Sabau

Marray definately has a WC, as does Baker, so those two will be in the main draw

I can't believe Qualies Draw is not out yet

This is a british challenger, and we all know what the coverage of them are like

Qualifying starts on Sunday, so the draw should be out some point this evening, although with the LTA you never actually know what they are going to do, and when they will release the draw

At least this challenger has a website, which does seem to be updated every day throughout the tournament, so that is a plus. It did at one stage have live scores, but can't remember whether it still does, or whether they stopped doing that

Sign in doesn't end for another hour, the draw should be somewhere within two hours after that. Challengers held during the second week of a slam have a Satruday sign in.

Roddick: It's A Challenge(r)

PARIS -- There is a very strong chance that Andy Roddick, hungry for matches before Wimbledon, will play doubles only at the Challenger tournament in Surbiton, England, which begins Monday.

Roddick would play with Robby Ginepri, with whom he has twice paired for a 2-2 record. The last time they played together was in Rome in 2006, where they won a round.

It would be Roddick's first match in a Challenger, which is the minor leagues of pro tennis, since April of 2001, when he played singles and doubles (Paul Goldstein) on clay in Bermuda. He lost second round in boh singles and doubles there.

It's unusual for a top 10 to play a Challenger, but Roddick, whose clay season was shortened by injury, needs matches before Wimbledon and he got in only one match at the French, where he and eight other U.S. men went out in the first round.

Though it's only doubles, it will give him a jump start on the grass court season and a chance to do some serve-and-volleying.

Surbiton is just south of London. The following week Roddick would be in London for the Queen's tournament, where he has had great success. Roddick also played doubles two weeks ago, with Amer Delic, at Poertschach, Austria, where they won two rounds before giving a walkover in the semis.

Tough draw for a lot of the Brits, but some of them have a chance of winning a few rounds

Goodall has a tough draw, as with Guccione's serve he is always going to be tough to beat on grass. He needs to find some of his form from last year to have a chance their

Bloomers should beat Thornley, as he is the much better player between the two. Unlucky for him to face Boggo in the next round... but a very good chance for Boggo to make a good run on the grass. Boggo should get past Kuznetzov, then Bloomers, and Guccione's game gives Boggo a chance, because he does well against the serve volleyers. Boggo could make the final here, as there is no-one in the top quarter with a massive grass court pedigree

Rushby has a shot against Giraldo, but the colombian is probably good enough to sneak through in 3

Marray/Baker will be a good match, and a very tough one to call... maybe Baker having played more matches will be enough to win, but Marray has a much better grass game

Corrie has a shot against Muller, as he is totally out of form, but he did beat Nadal at Wimbledon a couple of years back, so can play on grass

Childs should beat Healey, but with him, you never know what will happen

Roddick Plays Challenger

PARIS -- In a surprise move, Andy Roddick is going to be play doubles at the Surbiton, England, $50,000 Challenger (minor league) tournament that began today. He'll team with Robby Ginepri. They've twice before been doubles partners, winning two and losing two matches.

It's the first time Andy has been in a Challenger event since he played Bermuda in 2001. This is a rare move for Roddick, but he needs matches after having his clay season shortened by injury and being knocked out in the first round of the French Open.

Following this tournament, he'll be back at Queen's Club in London, where he's had great success, then probably take a week off and play Wimbledon.

from Surbiton official site

May downs No.1 seed Querrey

Kent’s Jim May produced the match of his life to beat world No.67 Sam Querrey in the first round on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old qualifier ignored a whopping ranking gap of 1,455 places to beat the 6ft 6” American hot prospect 6-4, 3-6, 6-3.

Querrey has enjoyed some big wins in 2007, including successes over top 100 players Jose Acasuso, Florent Serra, Ivo Karlovic, Julien Benneteau as well as French Open quarter-finalist Igor Andreev.

But the Californian was no match for May on the grass courts of Surrey’s Surbiton Racket & Fitness Club.

The Englishman’s reward is a second round date with Canadian qualifier Frederic Niemeyer or Frenchman Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.

May, who won three three-set matches in qualifying to make the first round, is still pinching himself.

"I like grass but I have surprised myself this week, I have to admit," said May, who got through the Wimbledon doubles qualifying event with Hertfordshire's Neil Bamford last year.

“Fortunately the match was so quick I had no time to get nervous at the end."

Former national champion Lee Childs made the most of his wildcard into the $25,000 Challenger event by joining May in round two.

The Somerset 24-year-old came through a nail-biter against Aussie world No.171 Nathan Healey 7-6(4), 4-6, 7-6(10).

Great win for Lee Childs there, although with his serve and volleys he is always going to be a threat on grass. I guess he'll play Karlovic next, and that could go either way, as neither man is likely to be broken that often

But May beating Querrey??? I thought he had a chance, and could see him taking a set, but to win is a total shock. From what I remember of seeing James May play is that he has a big serve, can volley reasonably well, but what pretty poor from the baseline and off the return... of for him to break Querrey at least twice is a big surprise

...Big suprise.... Understatement of the year, I am absolutely staggered that Jim's won that, and only slightly less amazed that Chinky's beaten Healey, neither of them had any form going into this, and if it wasn't for the unusually high number of drop outs Childs wouldnt even have been it, great result for him let's hope he can build on it, as for Jim May, well, he's got something to tell his grandchildren!! :worship:

Good day on the whole for the Brits, with most of them getting through, and only Delgado losing a match he had a real chance in

Boggo struggled a little bit by the sounds of things, but good to set a straight sets win here, and finally pick up a win at Surbiton after losing in Round 1 continously for the last few years. Nice draw for him, and he could really have a good run here this year. Bloomers next for him, and that shouldn't be a real problem, as Boggo has a very good records against Brits, and Bloomers's style of game will suit Boggo well

Very good win for Childs, and Ivo next will be a tough match, but I guess it is winnable if he serves continously well. Expect there to be a lot of tie breaks in the match, but if he holds his nerve like he did today, then he can take out Ivo.

Great win for May, but Tsonga will be too good for him, and I don't think he will be going any further in the tournament (but may have got himself a quali WC for Wimbledon with that win)

Decent showing from Corrie, but he was never going to beat Muller.

In the doubles, good chance for the British teams to make a good run at the moment, as Auckland/Huss vs. Butarac/Murray should be set for the QF's. Fisher/Phillips are out as well, as are the Roddick/Ginepri team, so I would expect one of them to end up winning the title

Losing a set to some unknown?

Not a good start of the grass season.

Hopefully,you will raise your level...

You will must do that in order to stand a chance in Queens and Wimbly against the real players..

Come on now, lets not make Karlovic sound like a great player. all of his grass matches are pretty much 50/50. Chances are it will go into tiebreaks and its anyones match when its decided by that.

agreed. Returning on Grass is very harder than returning on clay. On clay karlovic takes his time to return and tries to create a rally and goes to the net. On grass the bounce is different and it is 50:50 chance of either player winning it.

But i must give some credit to Lee childs. He fought hard.

Horrible result for Boggo, losing that easily to Bloomers, and it doesn't bode well for the rest of the grass court season. Hopefully it was just him trying to give Bloomers some nice, easy ranking points, or just an off day, and he can rediscover his form in time for Queens

Good win today for Auckland/Huss as well, and they are having a good start to the grass court season. Kendrick/Bozojlac won't be an easy semi final match, but if they play as well as they can, then they should be able to make the final here, and then go on and take the title

You guys are underestimating Ivo on grass.

This guy just has a huge, huge serve...

Solid FH and nice volleys
Grass is a PERFECT SURFACE for him.Better then any hard court.
And he will do well in this years grass season and prove you you're wrong.
