Very entertaining match. I really wanted Tommy:sad: to win cause I just don't care for his opponent, but Almagro played very, very good tennis. Bad luck for Tommy.

This is Mucho for you, burro version in 1st set, stud version the rest of the match. Well played, Mucho, it was about time as well

Excellent match for Almagro in the 2nd and 3rd set, he really had Robredo on the run. If he ever improves on his defense and point construction, Mucho would become quite scary. But that is a big if.

I don´t think you were referring at this but I think it´s related, I don´t know if he will feel like working hard on this bc of his character, imo he still wants to win/lose dictating and doesn´t pay much attention to other aspects of the game less "flashy" as he should (clear example was the third point of the last game of the match, he basically said: "Ok, I´ve had enough of running here" and left a slice bh almost at his feet :o). He needs to improve his footwork, his defensive skills, his slice and stop thinking more in what´s the most impressive way to end the point rather than the most effective one

Completely agree, on his day he can still be dangerous for anyone but to take the next step he needs to improve on these dimensions. I hope he does, I think he wants to achieve big things and that hopefully will push him to do the work.

I've never liked Almagro, I thought he was a bit of a brat (I think because of a match against Safin last year?.. hrmm cant remember).

But for taking such a huge amount of points of Boredo, I respect him now :D

I hope he does do the work- because the potential is there.

Well he does have that rep. But at the same time, he can also be genial on the court.

The overall more agressive player won.

Plus, Almagro is charming. It was cute when he caressed the chair umpire's head. LOL Safin does that kind of stuff. Is that a hint of good things to come. hmmm... :)

(I think because of a match against Safin last year?.. hrmm cant remember).

Almagro is a brat it can't really be denied but frankly Safin was probably about twice as bad as Almagro in that match and yet on MTF after the match there were hundreds of hate posts about Almagro and one man and his dog mumbling in the corner about how Safin was actually just as bad.

Anyway, great win for Superstar but his consistency lets him down. It would be no surprise to see him get over confident after this. Funny how he thinks he is the best in the world on clay and it costs him but off clay he under confident and it costs him just as much, he needs to find a balance.

As for those denouncing Robredo, the guy has been top 10 for almost exactly a year. You don't get to #5 without legitimate skill. Maybe he isn't great to watch for some but his ability is there for all anyone with an open mind to see.

Almagro is always going to be more agressive than Robredo but as I said in my previous post, when the shots start going in for him he becomes over agressive and he needs to learn to keep a balance. If he does that he can be a top player on clay. His ability at both attacking and defending is undeniable and his belief is there too. His game shouldn't fall apart when he changes surfaces but atm it does. Needs to be sorted out.

The robredo fans (kids designated by the organization) on the last one. The Almagro kids were on the other side, but barely made any noise. So at least in that regard Tommy won. :D

Yeah, I agree he's talented, but he's boring. He doesn't have enough power for me, nor enough personality. He's blah. :o Most challenger players are more intriguing than Tommy is.

Burrow

He probably will be in and out of the top 10 and 15, nowhere outside the top 20 unless an injury hits him, it was clear to see on paper, that almagro was going to be a tough task for robredo despite being ranked outside the top 50, he is dangerous on clay and i guarantee you nobody would want to see him on there side of the draw at the early rounds at roland garros.

I really can't understand the hate against Tommy Robredo. I wonder why this board attracts such posters who get on love and hate bandwagons totally disregarding the tennis. Tommy is an excellent player and thoroughly deserves to be in the top 5. just because some consider him boring doesn't mean that he lacks tennis skills. many considered sampras to be boring! well done nico :yeah: Tommy

This match was painful to watch. Such slow clay and Robredo standing miles behind the service line. I like clay tennis but I was turned off by this one, especially Robredo's tactics, and I can see why people can't stand it. Almagro's early point construction was completely and utterly :retard:

who are you to judge whether he belongs in the top ten or not? did he earn his points or did he steal them? Have you ever played professional tennis to judge who deserves his ranking or not? I suggest you become a pro tennis player than talk after you experience one season as a pro. I doubt you have ever tennis racket in your life. Also what is makes you qualified to pass judgement, such as "boring"? There are many fans of Robredo on this board who don't have the same opinion as you, and the others on this board who have inflated sense of their ability, at least respect them and robredo.
