The 20-year-old tennis player has decided, 13 May 2007, to quit Lagardere team and to settle in US where he will be trained by Tarik Benhabiles. AFP

So it seems he knows there is a problem and has taken a little control.

The USA is where it's at for Gael.

Tarik is the man!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!

Sides, Monfils has been sucking...it would be great if he would convert his citizenship to American and become the next great American hope.

He may as well give it a try - it's not like what he's been doing this past 12 months has been working, not since Roland Garros.

His highlight of the past 12 months was that 120 mph forehand he hit...lol

Still, it does also slightly smack of running away from his problems rather than facing them - so I hope he's doing it for the right reasons.

I'll be happy to have Gael around.

Clearly he has the talent, so coaching was his problem...imo, so what are you talking about?:o

Me, I think the problem has been he won't listen to his coaches, so I'm not sure what's going to change by getting different ones in America, when the last 4 have not been heeded in France.

but then maybe he'll be more prepared to listen to them.

Coach or no coach, I think he's too talented to suck. His game will come to together it's a question of whens and not ifs for this sort of a player. I think Tarik will help him simplify what he's got to do out there...thus making whens more often when he get more consistent but only time will tell I guess.

Give him Lundgren/Annacone/Stefanki/God/Jesus/Mohammed/Buddha/Satan and he will still suck.

he obviously have personality/attitude problems this dude when he came to my tennis academy to train. He's cold, rude and arrogant. Someone pointed the correct fact above, it's not the coaches problem, it's himself no listening to the coach and blaming it on someone else. Also his talents can't be compared with Novak djokivic and other youngsters out there sorry to announce this. I don't see him being a player of the future.

he is actually good
& he the weapons & heart
a bit more control & direction
& he should recapture his form,
Tarik Benhabillies is a great pro who has managed younger players like Roddick early on & now german Becker

what he needs is a brain surgery, not an incessant changing of coaches.

Sometimes a total change of scenery is what a player needs. I hope this works for him.

Wow this is great news. And totally unexpected. I can't see this as a negative in any way. Go Gael:)
