Nadal wins Rome - 6-2 6-2 over Gonzalez

Comfortable win, Gonzalez played like mince, Nadal defended very well. Gonzalez tried to do to the right things today, he just couldn't execute.
Will Nadal's streak come to an end at the French Open?

Well done Rafa and congrats, 77 and counting this is quite a run  :yeah:

Good tourney for Gonzo, I expected a tougher match given the sunny day and fast conditions of Centre Court, but Nadal took it in a canter, just untouchable and got a nice payback from AO loss, maybe some clowns who didnīt believe him when he said he was hampered that day will do now :D

PD: Sorry for those frustrated Fedtards who wanted him to retire when he had that problem on Wednesday or have been rooting desperately for someone to end this unbelievable run during this funny week :haha:

There's no doubt Rafa wasn't at 100% today so it's pretty criminal that Gonzo wasn't either, given his easy SF in comparison. His forehand was awry, his strategy, such as it was, was confused (he went into the Rafa forehand far too much) and he generally did not do the first thing he needed to do - which was to drag the match out and keep Nadal embroiled in a physical encounter.

Nadal's intensity was way down today but he got it done fairly efficiently nonetheless and he is once again admirable in how he goes about his business.

I expect him to withdraw from Hamburg now - I doubt he would be recovered in time for a Wednesday start to face another 5 matches. He did hit a wall against Davydenko almost out of nowhere, since he'd been playing a lot of tennis lately and seemed fine with it, but it all seemed to catch up with him at once. Rest is clearly needed now.

Truly impressive turnaround from yesterday for Rafa. I was slightly concerned about Rafa's reaction to Gonzo's first drop shot. But Rafa took it to Gonzo...and, like the extremely intelligent player he is, came to the net with exceptional frequency and success. Looks like the Johnny Mac practice method (i.e. practice by doubles) is truly paying off.

shame old Ljubabitch will never be in a position to win these titles :) even if by some stroke of luck he is in a final of a real tournament, you know hes going to lose.

Congrats to Nadal, after yesterday's thriller everything got back to normal today.

Gonzalez, today he just looked like he didn't want to be there at all.

Fena  But nevertheless a good week in Rome :)

Congrats to Rafa :hatoff: It's amazing how this 20years old guy handles the pressure. This year he surely can't deny he is the favourite to win in RG ;)

Rafa will still claim Federer as the RG07 favourite. :p

Awesome. And hilarious. Never thought I'd see a Pride and Predjudice reference on here. :)

Way to go Rafa. I didn't watch the match because I was sure Gonzo was going to win it. Now I wish I had. I'm so happy that Raf could win three times in a row. I guess the real final was yesterday. :)

Good tourney for Gonzo, I expected a tougher match given the sunny day and fast conditions of Centre Court, but Nadal took it in a canter, just untouchable and got a nice payback from AO loss, maybe some clowns who didnīt believe him when he said he was hampered that day will do now :D

Gonzo smashed Nadal at AO because he was better by far that day. Nadal is not the same player outside clay, but on it he's really untouchable.

Gonzo is pathetic on the big stage.

Yeah, if he were like that, than how could he won gold and bronze medal in Athens?

 Fena, good result after that tough time.
At least he gained some confidence on clay.
Hoping for a win in next final ;)

Turning up and trying your best is different to not showing up at all. He never even broke a sweat out there, almost a beaten man from day 1.

Rafa manages to achieve the Muster triple of Monte Carlo, Barcelona and Rome for the 3rd straight time. Quite amazing. Gonzalez would need to be at the top of his game to challenge Nadal on clay, when he is not his backhand and the difference in movement will be inevitably exposed in this surface, as it happened today.

Comfortable win, Gonzalez played like mince, Nadal defended very well. Gonzalez tried to do to the right things today, he just couldn't execute.
Will Nadal's streak come to an end at the French Open?

OF course he will be beaten - I wouldn't be surprised if that happens at Hamburg - free points, as he has nothing to lose. The kid is tired - he said it in the interviews, and he's looked tired, so if he gets to the quarter's he'll probably decide he's done enough damage and bingo, he loses.
For me this is not a problem - he needs to rest for the French Open. He also has the record, not many people will break that one I think, so he can then start without all this 'when will the streak end'. It will have ended before RG which is the point. No point in winning MS titles and then losing RG.

I really wish though that he pulled out of Hamburg - I don't believe it is a good move - when your body's tired, the probability of an injury is much higher - he can't afford to miss RG through a stupid injury. A win there would complete the scoop, and then.... Wimbledon :D
