Great match from Nadal. Youzhny didn't play badly either.

And, I have to say, Rafa looked like the Fittest Man in Fit Land so I doubt there are any significant injury/illness worries.

Rafael Nadal is a freaking GENIUS on clay. Some of those points at the net were just glorious. 23 - 9 winners to unforced errors? :worship:

Nadal is almost unbeatable on clay.
he has even found a way to become better on clay than last year.

Harsh scoreline for Misha, he played way better than that!

It's pretty hard to see anybody finding a way through Nadal on clay right now... even on the faster Rome courts, he moves so much better on clay.

Unbelievable. That was a through scoping of Misha's game. It didn't really matter what Misha did, Rafa had the answer. At the end, Misha looked resigned to the inevitable.

Kudos Nadal.

Youzhny played a perfect game for hard courts. This was something close to the tennis that won him his match in Dubai. But he hits flat, and this is clay, so...

A HUGE sigh of relief that Rafa was physically fit to play.

A great display of tennis from Rafa, he just seems to have all the answers. :worship: Youzhny played well but got spanked anyway. Some breathtaking points by both players. :yeah:

Great result. Youzhny is a dangerous player.

Hope I will get to see highlights of this.

Might as well hand him the Rome, Hamburg and Rolland Garros trophies right now. Barring injuries or a total off-day nobody will beat this guy on clay this year... or next. The 100 clay matches winning streak is definitely within his grasp. That's amazing.

He's not the most elegant player out there by a long shot but he's no Muster either and his power and tenacity are unrivalled at the moment.

So i guess, i hope Nadal is ok now, healthwise, this match was not even as close as the score indicated.

I was a bit scared that he wouldnt be able to play, but its great that he was able to, and to kick the crap outta Misha. :)

So, now, who is the REAL #1?

Youzhny tried to do what works well on hardcourts.... Hit flat, attack the forehand with great angles...but this is clay, baby.
What a difference a surface makes

It was great to see Rafa's patience at work in this match. Great match for him.

That was one of the best matches ever by Nadal on clay, imo. Youzhny was not bad at all but on this surface he stood no chance. I think Nadal played on the same round at Rome great matches against Canas in 05 and Henman in 06.

Yes, I'm really relieved Rafa looked well.

Very entertaining and high-quality match.
Some stunning drop shots and passes by Rafa.:worship:

Well, Nadal seemed very motivated against Youzhny. I'm happy for him, he's really adjusting his style and finding new ways of playing on clay so this makes for him even better performances than last year. He's evolving his game on clay and learning in the proccess, so he's becoming a more complete player. For me that's a positive, having in mind he's 20 years old.

He now understands that to beat the flattest hitters on earth the best way is to also show some agressiveness when necessary. And due to his peculiar style of play he can choose when to go aggressive with great results and playing safe. Congrats and looking forward to the game against Djokovic. I'm interested to see how he's going to play.

Misha will sort him out once more this clay period finishes.

He needs more topspin, at least on his forehand... It'll really help his game.

It was a nice match to watch, Youzhny didn't play badly at all, but Nadal was just great tonight. Hope he does the same thing tomorrow.

Well, as some nerds state, Rafa is still far from C.Evert 4-years-unbeaten-126-matches record... but at least is time to realize how hard and amazing is what this boy has achieved NOWADAYS!

We were all afraid of this match vs Misha, he makes it easy. Tomorrow vs. Nola we are again facing a very difficult match... will Rafa make it easy again?

That was just unbelievable. Youzhny played really well and yet got thrashed! Nadal was just absolutely on fire and so pumped up to win. (If you didn't see the match, picture Nadal's usual intensity and times it by about one 100%!!)

I can't believe how much Rafa has improved since last year, which has gotta be a bit worrying for the other players. He's so aggressive now. Some of those shots were just incredible.

Excellent play from Nadal, very solid, concentrated, great serving! :hatoff: :worship:  And totally fun to watch! Misha tried his best too but nothing he could do against so aggressive and solid Rafa!
Rafa didn't face a single break point!

:hatoff: to Nadal. Yet to drop a set on clay this year. Maybe this should be the first aim for an opponent ;)

Nice, nice victory for Rafa...he just MOVES so much better on clay than most players...and with his excessive spin on his shots:eek: If you are not a clay court beast like Canas or Robredo, you're in for a long and exhausting day...

And Rafa's point at 3-1, 30 love in the first:eek:    Magnificent!!!!!

Great, great match!!! :hatoff: :hatoff: :hatoff:

Raf is unbeatable on clay right now. No discussion there At. All. :worship:

But kudos to The Colonel as well, for at least giving Raf a proper match. The 6-2 6-2 count doesn't at all give him the credits he deserves. Even if he got beaten like he did, he still seemed to be enjoying himself out there.
Love you, Misha!

I have not had the chance to watch the match but it is fun to read the comments. Well done Rafa, as usual you are the KING of clay courts. Keep up the good work. There is no small enemy out there, much less Djokovic. Nadal does not take anything for granted, and that is what keeps him doing well.

What an awesome match from Nadal. :worship: The shots that Youzhny had to play just to win points were amazing. Unfortunately, there was just too much pressure on Youzhny to keep executing that type of tennis and understandably, more and more errors came. Fun match to watch though.

What a bunch of nerds there are in this forums. Just showing how mediocre you are and how poor understanding of tennis you have.

Nadal's achievements are something to be respected by anyone with a minimun logic and with no envy or hatred towards him. I guess I'm asking for too much.
