What the HELL is going on in Rome???

Seriously! Canas, this 'major FO contender' gets booted out early by... who again? Roddick demolishes past FO champ Gaudio in one round, then loses abysmally to Chela in the next. Baghdatis annihilates Moya. Gasquet is out, Hewitt loses first round, Blake is gone, etc... Roger Federer plays what is possibly the WORST match a number 1 player has played since Martina Hingis lost to Jelena Dokic in the first round of Wimbledon '99. Oh, and while all this is going, Rafa is checking himself into a hospital with dizzy spells.

I don't know about you people, but I am fully expecting Nadal to lose to Youzhny now...

Canas and Federer losing are the only major upsets you have mentioned. All the other results you speak of are either not surprising in the least or very minor upsets. Even the Canas defeat some would say is not the biggest shock in the world as even though he has been doing very well this season he is not Nadal.

Agree w/ what you have said here J. It happens, but is not the stuff of Armageddon. :)

For the record, Gaudio pushed the second set to a TB. That, in no way, warrants the use of the word "demolish."

People complain about Federer winning everything, but they also complain when there's a few upsets in a tourney, make your mind up

It's weird how all the strange things happen in the same tournament (like Miami this year). But I'm kind of liking it. Last year was just way too boring and predictable with the majors and masters events.

It's the water...Seriously, maybe they pray there in Rome, for the sincere guys. So, Davydenko, at #4...is the highest seed left in Men's singles, eh?

Isn't it obvious???? It's because this is the weakest era in tennis history. They are all chokers. (insert your tennis idol from the past) could dominate this era playing with a rope instead of a tennis racquet. (insert your favorite era) was when the REAL MEN played. These guys are all a bunch of clowns.

True in a way but its buzzing up rlly annoying discussions like is it the begining of the end for federer? Will canas win the french? Are americans gonna get passed the 2nd ronf of FO???:cuckoo:

its called clay courts...if everything was the same every week in every tournament...the sport would be dead.

What are you expecting...the exact same results every damn week?

Actually, when you look at the draw, 5 out of the top 8 seeds have made the QF so there really haven't been that many upsets.

This is not a weak era. But the spring season is abysmally low on good clay court specialists.

This is especially true when you consider that both Roddick and Ljubicic (seeds 3 and 8) aren't particularly good on clay. The only person missing from the QF who you would normally expect to be there is Federer. Really, the only thing noteworthy that's going on in Rome is that Federer lost, which, based on his past 3 tournaments, may not be as rare as it was in 2006.

This is the best type of tournament! If things always went according to seeding, why bother playing at all? Just hand the trophy to the first seed and the runner-up to the second seed. <<<<boring>>>>

Upsets are what I live for!

The only surprise there is Federer's loss. Though it is a big one.

I'm excited for RG. Who knows what could happen?

Remarkably, all seeds have advanced in the bottom half. That does not happen often on clay.

did u honestly excpected those players (bold) to reach the finals?
americans have never done any good in clay, neither has hewitt, gaudio has been playing bad everyone knows that! its been talked so much people have said he wants to retire... the fact that he lost, comes to me as no surprise neither does the fact that Roddick who's never passed the 1 week in RG lost to Chela a very expierenced clay courter. and well Gasquet has never been consistent enough to have him as fav especially with a throat infection. Federer has been the only "surprise" as far as upsets goes and im not saying volandri is the best player in the world but if he was ever gonna beat federer was at home in rome playing on clay.

I like the upsets to a degree.

What I don't want to see is Federer exiting early at the French.

No one wants to see Guille Canas get his shit ruined by Nadal in the FO final. It's not interesting.

Well they both play similar styles to borg, run down everything and dont let any ball past em, get every ball back with lots of topspin, so I dont know why YOU would find it uninteresting. (itd be like the 77 FO final)
