Safin is not an easy task for anyone, on any surface. (playing well...and he does play well against the very best, it's the rest of the time you worry)

I re-edited that.

Safin has the game to beat Nadal, he might be the man to end the streak. He just needs to make through these first couple rounds.

I'd like to see it on any surface other than clay.

Lol Safin would be destroyed. He's slower than he used to be, and way too inconsistent over the course of a match to even think about seriously challenging Nadal.

I'd love to see Safin take on Rafa. I dont like Rafa having cakewalk draws. The tougher the opponents, the better he plays.
I'd love to see them battle it out on a hard court too. I hope that happens.

The thread should be, "Who wants to see Safin win more than one match per tournament?"

:raises hand:

He better rehire Lundgren or start blogging again.

Everyone thinks Safin is the same old inconsistent player he used to be. From what I've seen he is fairly consistently average these days barring the odd terrible defeat. More or less all his matches he plays at the same level, face it fans, he was once a great player but injury has ruined him. Is it sad, yes, but it has to be accepted. In his prime Safin could give Nadal a good match on clay, better than most. Now, I don't like his chances on any surface and that includes indoors.

I haven't seen him play in a while, but he looked good at the US Open until he lost. I don't think injuries have ruined him. I think he's too good to be losing after one match--wasn't he up a set and break here? Although Davydenko is a nemesis.

BTW, Safin has consistently sucked during this time of year, even before 2000, and he's never been beyond the 3rd round of Rome.

What's the point?

Nadal would bake him a bagel and a breadstick

Enough with the Safin hype, he's a dead horse.

Do you wanna see Safin to be double-bageled, Fumus?

I don't. Safin's level of play has decreased so I don't think it will be much of a contest.

Safin 2005 AO form playing against Nadal- that would be the ultimate match. It's a pity that will never occur.

"Don't step on the grass... SMOKE IT!"

Grass game and all Serve&Volley game is just too fast and boring.

It's not about this time of year. He had the excuse of being back from injury for a while but I think that his long lay off has hampered his movement and he has not been able to catch up to the tour. He isn't going up the rankings much anymore tbh. He could have a big tournament sure but he's an average top 20/30 player now. It is a truth which is a shame, he has an exceptional talent and can be great to watch as a pure ball-striker but he isn't a threat anymore, he isn;t the hit and miss player that can beat whoever on whatever day he is just a normal player playing at a top 30 level.

Threads like this really depress me. What I really want to see is Safin winning some matches and gaining some confidence before we can talk about match-ups like this. If they play each other, I want it to be QF or SF of an event, not a lucky (or unlucky) first round draw.
