ljubo needs to work on his footwork. he jammed himself on half the forehands he hit today. and his serve was a total disaster...especially towards the end of the match.
acasuso played quite well though...

Ljubo didn't take his chances in the second set, he had 2 BPs on 3-2, and didn't play well. I have a feeling he wasn't really good on the net today, and he was losing long rallies. I had a feeling he'll lose, i'm glad it wasn't in the way like it was last year in Hamburg. :tape: :help:

It's starting to look like a bad match-up for Ljubicic although I don't understand why.

I had a feeling Ljubo's serve was good actually. At least in the first set. He had a few serve winners, and aces. And yes, his footwork is :help: And he seemed tired.

Ljubo isnt "there" this whole year.

I dont know what to say,he just isnt the same old Ivan from 2005&2006.
Is the new racquet reason?
Or something else?
I dont know. But the fact is,he just isnt the same anymore.

Ljubicic is never going to win it when he serves below 50%. Like it or not, he's very reliant on his serve.

It's normal for Ljubo to lose against Aca. on clay. Ljubo is nothing compared Acasuso on clay. Can't wait when Clayseason is over.

Chucho outplayed Ivan, he has better clay skills, and from the baseline he

played very solid and domined ivan with his big heavy fh. ljubiic was forced to

risk his shots and go to the net to shorten the points, and he hit several

drops shots but without any b enefit (some of them were horrible and i think he lost every point where hit one lol)

It could be Chucho can do almost everything better on clay than Ljubicic but what do I know...

He wins matches even when he serves badly, but yes, to be in top form he has to serve well!

I'd give it 25 minutes...how time comes round so fast

A few hours, and he will be spanked by Henman on No. 1 court to help Britain into WG... :haha:

Carpet requires more than just hitting from the baseline to win. Well, I don't expect you to understand, Agassitard.

To be able to serve, volley, slice, hit approach shots. You know, things Nadal can't do.

What cheap shot? He lost and I made a biased comment. You brought in irrelevent facts with an irrelevent player. And carpet is a joke surface anyway, and yet Nadal still did win a TMS, beating this Ljubo.

How many tourneys still have carpet? 3? 4? and Minsk? You can tell how much of a joke surface it is when all the carpet events can be played in 2 weeks.

Carpet season is one month, pretty much like the grass season. But Wimbledon is a joke, right? Fanboys...

Minsk, where Spain got humiliated by semi-sober gladiator Voltchkov. :haha:

All of his talent is situated in his legs and hips, which allows him to hit those powerful but safe strokes.

But that's exactly where his talent ends. His hands are too stiff to craft points on the faster surfaces, and there's nothing happening at the net.
As intimidating as his service motion looks, the serve itself is a dissapointment.

Yup, Acasuso can definitely play very good on clay... as for Ljubo, well, his FH sucked again in this match. Way too many UEs on that side, much more than Acasuso was willing to forgive. Other than that really weak FH, it didn't look so bad.

And BTW, Acasuso has a damn good 1st serve, which seems to be rather effective vs. Ljubo even on clay. He won higher percentage of those 1st serves than Ljubo himself. As someone correctly noted, Ljubo does mostly depend on his serve - if his serve isn't working for any reason (low % of 1st serves, or his opponent's great returns) he can only beat mediocre players, or players who play mediocre that day themselves. Acasuso was neither.
