any news on young Derek?

yes, in fact i do have news.

derek made a singles quarterfinal last weekend, falling to john delanois 6-2 6-4. derek told me he was having some troubles with cramps. he got to the doubles final with delanois but fell by a 6-1 6-2 scoreline.

he's playing a clay event this weekend and received a walkover in his opening round. will have an update saturday.

derek has been retooling his game on the fast indoor courts of indiana. we hope to see him at his best level yet in time for the next high school season.

derek recently played an event near his home on the usta circuit, and played one of the epic matches of his life, winning 2-6 7-6 (5) 6-3 from 2-6 3-5 down and a pair of match points saved.
he fell 4-6 2-6 today to the tournament favorite after an early lead in the opening set. this is no doubt a big step toward the successes that derek is going to undoubtedly achieve in the future.

What's new with young Derek? Have you finished with high school or are you returning for another year of conference dominance?
