It was a slight mistake to think I could get away with betting on two spaniard friends but that match is gone and Roddick made back most of the money anyways. I see a few lines available for Challenger Finals and I see some lines available for New Haven. Let's try and get back into the money before this week is over.

--------------------------------------

TMS Cincinnati Final

Andy Roddick 1.38 over Juan Carlos Ferrero ($5200 to wn $2000)

Now i'm sweating having placed this bet. As much as I like it, it's a scary thought to be putting that much money into the hands of Andy Roddick and all I can say is that I better not be looking to kill some ducks after this match is done. I don't see it happening. Andy was in this position in 2005 but eventually lost out here in Cincinnati. His Finals match against Roger Federer did not go the way he had planned and Andy ended up losing in straight sets to the much better player. Well that was then and this is now. Juan Carlos Ferrero has been on an incredible run but his run was nothing special seeing that he beat two of his good buddies in Nadal and Robredo to make it this far. Roddick is definitely not mosquito's bed buddy and he won't give him any chances to stay in this match (like Robredo and Nadal so obviously did). Looking back on JCF's finals matches, he is only 4-10 in his last 14 finals matches having beaten Nico Massu, Martin Verkerk, Christophe Rochus and Guillermo Coria (all non-TOP 10 players). The ironic part is that the first of two meetings between Roddick and JCF was in the Finals of the US Open when they were ranked 4 and 3 respectively in the world. Roddick won that match and also beat JCF in Cincinnati last year. The way Andy has been serving and the he has been returning serve is enough to make me think there is no way he loses that match today. He has been too good this week, he is on home soil, he has not won a Title all year and Andy has said that he feels he needs to win this tournament to show his critics that he is not dead in the water. Well now is the chance to do it Andy and it's also a chance to show me some damn money the easy way against these spaniards. It's been a fun tournament with bad decision by myself but here is a good chance to finish in the + money. Make or break bet right here and I'm taking it.

New Haven

Arnaud Clement 1.59 over Florent Serra ($1700 to win $1000)

Some shocking bets in here is surely going to be the reaction to this one but based on their performances this past week in Cincinnati and in Toronto, there is a damn good reason for Clement to be favored and only the oddsmakers know what it is. It could be anything from they think he will bounce to back to Serra having some type of injury or even Serra making comments that he is not interested in this match. Who knows. Whatever it is, Clement is favored by this much for a reason and I see him playing well enough after his Cincinnati loss to win this match. This is Clement's first ever time playing in New Haven prior to the Open. Serra tried to qualify for this tournament in 2005 but his attempt was cut short by one Phillip King who beat him in the first round of qualies. Who? Let's not get too crazy about Serra's recent wins on hardcourts because they have made him a little bit overrated in the eyes of some forum members. Serra beat a worn out Julien Benneteau, he beat a very tired and sick Novak Djokovic and then he was sent home by mediocre semi-finalist Tommy Robredo. Bang Bang just like that. In Toronto he lost to Grosjean in the opening round. Did you know that earlier this year he lost to Jiri Vanek on hardcourts and just before that to Phillip Kohlschreiber? Two players who are ranked in the 90+ category is not good news. Clement on the other hand had been playing well in these American tournaments, winning the tournament in Washington. In fact, Clement has a good shot of winning this tournament and he can keep focus on his game and rediscover the form that brough him to the Title in George W. land. I know he lost to HT Lee in Cincinnati but he had still not recovered from that title win in Washington and having now rested for about three weeks, should able to kick the shit our of Serra in straight sets which is what I think is going to happen in this match. This is the first meeting between the two frenchies and my money is going to have to be placed on Clement to win this match without many problems.

Challenger Event Finals

Konstantinos Economidis 1.56 over Mathieu Montcourt ($900 to win $500)

I don't know that much about this veteran journeyman Economidis but I do know that he is one of the hottest players on the Challenger Series Tour and I can definitely see him winning this title. Winning this title would mean Economidis has won two Challenger titles in two months (he won Constanta back in June). The 29 year old Greek player has some pretty big wins in this tournament. He beat Jerome Haehnel, Carlos Bercloq and Daniel Gimeno to get to this point and he has not lost a set since his first round match where he was apparently a little bit rusty. Mathieu Moncourt on the other hand had a much easier draw and path to the finals. He has never won a Title in his career and this is a great chance for him to finally get over the hump and win himself a tournament. Not happening. Economidis has been too hot all week to cool down now. Montcourt beat a Lucky Loser in Round 1, beat a player ranked 677 in Round 2, and then beat two TOP 200 so-so players after that. He has dropped at least one set in three of hs four matches this tournament and has not played well enough to make it here, but somehow did anyways. Economidis has taken the Challenger circuit by storm this year going 26-10 on clay courts and 30-9 on the Tour since this time last year. Montcourt on the other hand is only 18-17 on clay courts over the last 12 months and only 29-21 on the Challenger circuit. Economidis has all the experience in the world to win this match and if he brings his top game like he has the last few months, he should have this win in no time.

I'm taking Bracialli over Mahut @ 1.75

Solely based on Bracialli's performance against Roddick, which I think misled a lot of people into thinking Roddick was going to be crap this tournament.

I've seen Mahut on grass, he serves well but has serious limitations in the rallies, plus he doesn't seem to be in the best shape, judging by his recent performances.

On the other hand, Bracialli can rally quite well, and also has a nice serve.

Lee is a scrapper that gave Clement problems while he was still hungover from his Washington Title win. Serra is an overrated opponent and Clement should have no problems regaining some form this week and knocking him right out of this tournament.
