Not a problem with the pics and I thought they would come in handy for sure and he should finish within the top 100 this year and that means he will come down to the Aus Open and I will watch him for sure.

He has talent, but these results have come from nowhere, there always seems to be a few players like that. I wonder when he will go onto the main tour.

Has anyone told that guy yet that there are also ATP events and that he could try to commit for them?
According to his atp playing activity he has a 0-1 record and that only match on the tour was 1972 in Hilversum!

Lol... good discovery. I didn't know he had never played an ATP match.

I am curious to see how he fares in the bigger events, he'll surely get a direct entry at the US Open. Some players have been having troubles to make the transition from challengers to ATPs (e.g. Berlocq, Pashanski), just hope it's not the case with Hajek.

Jan started the season at 469 and is now in the 330s, if he keeps the form up, he should be able to make the low 200s at the end of the year, if he is fit.

He hasn't been playing Futures, he has been playing Challenger qualies and making many main draws. Best result this year was the recent semi final in Athens as a qualie, didn't lose a set until losing to Rui Machado in 3.

Jan qualified for Ostrava, took out Mayer and Mello both in straight sets.

Jan Hajek: I am unbelievably happy.

Jan Hajek from the Tennis Club AGROFERT Prostějov triumphed in the final of UniCredit Czech Open in Prostejov, the tournament subsidized with 127.500 EUR. He defeated the Belgian Steve Darcis 6:2, 1:6, 6:4.

Twenty-five year old Hajek won the tournament for the second time in three years. This year he was a great surprise of the tournament as he was neither seeded nor admitted directly to the main competition but had to fight his way up from qualification. In the history of the tournament there are only a few players to win the tournament twice: Czechs Radek Stepanek and Bohdan Ulichran, and Richard Fromberg form Australia.

Hajek entered the match very impressively. He broke Darcis’ serve twice and with five successful games in a row won the first set in less than 30 minutes. “I was nervous at the beginning, I did not sleep very well today, I was thinking this match over and over ...,” said Hajek at a press conference after the match.

But Darcis pulled himself together in the second set. He hit balls with increased force and accuracy and Hajek fell into depression. “I am sorry I missed the beginning of he second set, I should have had to push on my opponent more strongly. The situation from our match in Ostrava repeated. I was too passive and Steve was better in the second set,” added Hajek who went to the bathroom after the set to get refreshed a little bit. “I calmed down there and told myself this was going to be my last set at the tournament and I was resolved to win.”

The Czech player delivered completely different performance in the last set. He was more concentrated and won three games in a row. But the way to the championship was still to be a tortuous one. Darcis did not give up even at the score of 2:5, on the contrary, he diverted one match point when serving and than managed to break another Hajek’s serve. However, in the end Hajek managed to turn his fourth match point into the victory in the whole tournament.

This victory pushed Hajek to the world’s second hundred in ATP ranking but not to the qualification in Wimbledon and he will have to go on at challengers on clay. His futures plans include participation at the tournaments in Kosice and Bytom in Poland.

How he evaluated the tennis week in Prostejov?
“It was great, I won eight matches. Each match was a great battle. It started with a duel against Robin Vik and finished today in the final. I am very happy I kept the shape throughout the whole tournament and unbelievably happy I managed to triumphed in the end.”

Since Ivo Minar very likely won't be in the next Davis Cup tie against Croatia, captain Jaroslav Pospisil said the Czech team might be Berdych, Stepanek, Dlouhy and then Hernych or Hajek.

It doesn't matter at all since Berdych and Stepanek will be the only guys who will come to play.

If we want to win.

Yes, that's true, he has the chance of playing a dead rubber or replace one of Tomas or Radek if any of them is injured (that hopefully won't happen).

Hajek in the final of Freudenstadt. :) will play the winner of Flo Mayer vs. Recouderc. Hajek lost only eleven games in his route to the final (3 and 1 to Vik, 1 and 1 to Sorenesen, 1 and 1 to Sirianni and 3 and 0 to Brands)
