Another barrier has been broken by our tennis player, another negative score erased. Novak Djokovic, the nineteen-year-old typhoon from Serbia, became our first champion at the ATP Tour after 18 years. The best Serbian tennis player reached his great triumph in the battle against two-times Olympic champion, Chilean Nicolas Massu - 7:6 (7:5), 6:4.

- I am delighted because of this triumph, first one for me, but also the first one, after a long break, for my country - revealed Djokovic after the final. - This entire week has been tremendously successful; I have won my first title without dropping a set throughout the whole tournament. Today was most difficult. The finals, the pressure, the great opponent. We were both exhausted because it was pretty hot.

Since the first game of the finals, Djokovic already proved that he had found the perfect spike for the Vampire, which is Massu's nickname back in Chile. The Serbian made a 3:0 lead, than increased it to 4:1, when 37th player of the world fought back to 4:4.

- I didn't manage to hold the brake until the end of the set, since he played better on important points, while I was making mistakes. But when I won the set, it all started to feel much easier. I knew that I could enter the rest of the match relaxed, we were on court for almost an hour and a half playing one set, and it was amazing. That was the key moment of the final.

Nole paid tribute to his opponent.

- Massu is a great tennis player, he already won several titles, he is two-times Olympic champion, both in singles and doubles. He still plays remarkably; I believe the audience has enjoyed themselves. When you reach the finals, it's always a special match. It is the last encounter and also the most important one. It's always better to round up the tournament with the title, rather than with a defeat.

- I could never satisfy myself with just reaching the final; I want to win a title. The winner was decided after the end of the first set. Djokovic impressed me; I didn't take advantage of all the chances. Now I'm off to Kitzbuhel. In the last three years I produced good results there, a final, a title and a semifinal.

well I can tell you... as much as I remember...

he said that he had a great season and ended as 16th on the atp ranking so now he can choose which tournament he wants to play and which not. in 2007 he will play only GSs and those "bigger"(i dont know how to say-my english is bad:unsure: ) tournaments and maybe also some smaller. then they were talking about finale in umag.he said that this is the match he regrets the most, because of all the fans who came to support him and so...
he also said how busy he was those days(before that show-i dont know exactely when the show was:S) and the only day when he was free was the next day. so he said that he will go out that evening, because he likes going out in belgrade more than in any other city and now he has one of rare chances:)
he also said how success in tennis(or any other sport) is only the result of how hard you work. 5% is talent and 95% is practice. he was talking about Thomas Muster being no.1 with no talent.
