Papakori 09-07-2005, 06:14 PM hi :wavey:
I read somewhere he had a very good looking one but I can't find any pictures or name

Come on Radek! :bounce:
Radeklover 11-01-2005, 03:13 PM Hey people!
I'm 'new' around here (well, not really, have been lurking for quite a long time :P) and fiiinally found the Radek thread! Doesn't seem like there are lots of fans around here, so I'll give the Radek talking a try and hopefully some others will join me? :)
So, maybe it'll be a good idea to introduce ourselves a bit. (I sincerely hope I'm not talking against nobody here..) I'm a huge Radek fan, mostly because of his very cute attitude, and even though his looks aren't exactly droolworthy, his inner person compromises a lot! I also like Igor Andreev, Fernando Verdasco, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Andy Roddick, Richard Gasquet and Marco Chiudinelli, among others.
Anyone here? *waves*
Radeklover 11-01-2005, 03:50 PM He's playing the BNP Paribas Masters in Paris at the moment, Radek is seeded 8 and this is his quarter of the draw:
(8) STEPANEK, Radek CZE/Bye
LOPEZ, Feliciano ESP v. MALISSE, Xavier BEL
SANGUINETTI, Davide ITA v. MATHIEU, Paul-Henri FRA
Bye/(11) GONZALEZ, Fernando CHI
(15) ANCIC, Mario CRO/Bye
(Q) TURSUNOV, Dmitry RUS v. SPADEA, Vincent USA
RUSEDSKI, Greg GBR v. (Q) SEPPI, Andreas ITA
Bye/(3) DAVYDENKO, Nikolay RUS
So, he got a bye in the first round, and is playing Feliciano Lopez tonight, his match is the last on court no. 1.
GOOD LUCK RADEK! Please win your first title anytime soon, k?
Papakori 11-01-2005, 05:29 PM hey Radek lover!
I was at Paris yesterday and met him!
Good luck against Lopez!
Radeklover 11-01-2005, 07:06 PM You met him?!?!?! That's so cool! Tell more, tell more!
Yay, I'm not alone in this thread ;). Gambillfan, I saw you were the one who started this thread, are you a fan? For how long have you followed Radek? :)
Radeklover 11-01-2005, 07:07 PM Thought I had to throw another picture of Radek in this thread, seeing as there aren't much of them in here :)
I got this photo from a friend of mine, she isn't a real fan, but met him and took this foto for me!
Papakori 11-01-2005, 08:03 PM well he was just doing a signing session so I met him through there, there isn't much more to say!
Yep, I am a Radek fan and I think I have started following him since Milan this year and you?
Nice picture!
Papakori 11-02-2005, 12:53 PM he won 7-5 6-2 to set up a meeting with either Mr. Mathieu or Mr. Gonzalez :yippee:
Either one will be tough
Radeklover 11-02-2005, 07:16 PM I've started to follow him since.. Uh, difficult to say :p. I think it was during Wimbledon 2004, I saw his second round match. Carlos Moya beat him, I felt sorry for Radek, and started to follow his results after that match. :)
Well done, Radek! Pretty convincing score, too! Paulo just won the first set, so he might be Radek's next opponent..
Papakori 11-02-2005, 07:59 PM :)
So are you going to any tournaments next year in hope of seeing Radek?
Radeklover 11-03-2005, 04:55 PM Hopefully! But I'm not sure yet.. Don't think I'll have lots of time to go on tennis trips next year, and money is another issue. Oh well, I'll see :) Are you planning to visit more of the Paris tournament / another tournament?
Radek's match is about to start! Come on, you can beat Paulo..
Papakori 11-03-2005, 05:09 PM i Still don't know yet unfortunately. Hopefully RG
Radeklover 11-03-2005, 05:29 PM Roland Garros! Oh wow, that's so cool. I really want to visit a grandslam, one day. :p Even though smaller tournaments are better for talking etc. with the players..
Mm, when is the match going to start? *getting impatient*
Papakori 11-03-2005, 09:03 PM yeh, I wanted to go to the last one this year but it didn't work out so I went to the WTA Strasbourg instead.
I think I prefer smaller tournaments but there are no smaller ones locally
Papakori 11-03-2005, 09:03 PM ooh Radek won 7-5 6-4 or something :yippee:
Radeklover 11-03-2005, 10:09 PM Woot, well done Radek! He now has to play Nikolay Davydenko, ouch. Tough opponent.. I think their match is tomorrow, so come on Radek! You can beat him, if you want to ;)
Mmm, there aren't many people around here eh? Radek doesn't have a lot of fans.. I wonder why nobody pays attention to him, his game isn't that boring. But lots of people snap off because of his looks, I guess. Sad.
MissMoJo 11-03-2005, 10:16 PM :wavey: I'm not really a fan, kinda indifferent really :o but i'd like to know more about him and his game :D
Papakori 11-04-2005, 07:50 AM Hello Hairouna!
So what aspect would you like to know of his game? Maybe Radeklover can help out
Radeklover 11-04-2005, 06:57 PM Hi Hairouna! What do you want to know about Radek? I don't know that much, since there is very few info about him. Hardly any interviews or so.
YAY! Radek beat Davydenko in straight sets, 7-5 6-4! He's playing either Gaudio or Berdych in the semis..
Lenka 11-04-2005, 10:00 PM There will be a Czech semifinal, Radek vs. Tomas ;)
MissMoJo 11-04-2005, 10:05 PM hi guys :D what's his best surface? ( i think it might be indoor because i really only noticed him when he played marat in paris last year), is he a s/v guy? baseliner? his best stroke? I think i've only seen him on t.v once for a full match because tennis here is mostly americans, when we do get coverage, and the top guys. congrats on radek's win today :yeah:
Papakori 11-04-2005, 10:52 PM Yeah I think his best surface is indoor cos he is getting his best results there!
As for S/V, Baseliner from the few matches I have seen he does come forward a bit but I am not too sure
Papakori 11-05-2005, 03:41 PM OOh the match has started against Berdych!
Good luck Radek!
There are some nice pictures on gettyimages by the way~~!
Papakori 11-05-2005, 03:42 PM He's been broken! Berdych leads 3-1
Papakori 11-05-2005, 04:05 PM He lost the first set 1-6 but now leads 3-0 :D
Radeklover 11-05-2005, 11:13 PM Noooooooooo... he lost....
Papakori 11-06-2005, 09:40 AM :crying2:
Radeklover 11-07-2005, 07:05 PM Well, his year wasn't exactly great.. Still no titles, not any remarkable achievements..
Hopefully Radek will finally be able to win his first title next year!
janhernych44 12-14-2005, 07:54 PM No offence but how can you think stepanek is sexy? are u kidding me????!! He is perhaps the worst looking tennis player i have ever seen!, which doesnt matter because he is a really good tennis player:)
Radeklover 01-17-2006, 01:15 PM janhernych44, one: no one here ever said Radek is sexy, and two, have you ever seen him in real life or are you only basing your opinion on photos? He's not photogenic, but in real life he's quite cute and a really nice person on top of that. And, he's an awesome player.
Well, it has been quiet here for quite a while, and meanwhile Radek played two tournaments! He reached the semis in Chennai, India, where he lost to Carlos Moya, and lost in the first round of Sydney the week after..
His quarter of the draw for the Australian Open:
[7] LJUBICIC, Ivan CRO v. (W) GUCCIONE, Chris AUS
DLOUHY, Lukas CZE v. KOHLSCHREIBER, Philipp GER
MELLO, Ricardo BRA v. MULLER, Gilles LUX

Radek already won his first round match vs Bjorn Rehnquist 6-1, 6-2, 6-2! Now he's facing Marcos Baghdatis tomorrow, quite a tough one I think..
Go Radek! :bounce:
Papakori 01-18-2006, 08:44 PM hey Radeklover :wavey: Great to see you again! :) I hope you had a great christmas
Radek lost to Baghdats :crying2:
I agree about the photogenic thing :)
Kristen 01-27-2006, 03:14 AM Radek at the Damm/Paes vs Calleri/Robredo match in Sydney. ((Also present: Friedl, Cermak))
Tennis_Passion 02-04-2006, 07:12 AM That's strange, how come he doesnt get his own forum as the #1 Czech player. Ya, maybe Tomas is sexier..:p...but that's no excuse.
~*Carlita*~ 02-27-2006, 06:39 AM :wavey: any Radek fans here? I'm happy he won his first tournament. He made me laugh all week long :D Well done Radek!!

But I read today on a French website that he's fine now, he isn't injured anymore and he will play in Adelaide. That's what Navratil (DC captain) said.
He also confirms Radek is probably going to play against the US.

Radek Stepanek: (9:57 AM ET ) Hello this Is Radek and welcoming everyone to the chat. Let's get this going...
Anna W. (NYC): You've such a cool style on court. Are you the one choosing your outfits?
Radek Stepanek: (9:58 AM ET ) my outifts i choose myselft. the company that does the line, so I choose my outfits myslef.
Peter, Melbourne, Victoria: Hi Radek, Congratulations on your win last week against James in the final. How do you think you will go in the US Open series?
Radek Stepanek: (10:00 AM ET ) Definiteoly give me a lot of confidence for future tournamets. but it is just the first week on such a long tour and I will do everything I can to finish high on the US Open Series. This is a huge step forward for me.
Wayne (Pinedale,WY): With you coming back from injury and winning LA on Sunday, how do you feel and are you going to play in Washington before the Masters Series in Montreal and Cincinnati?
Radek Stepanek: (10:01 AM ET ) Washington is different because it is hot and humid and more demanding physically. Im in Florida training to get ready and Im looking forward to Washington.
Ian honolulu, HI: Hi, people in the tennis world always thought you were a doubles specialist, are you going to stop playing doubles and start concentrating on singles or still do both?
Radek Stepanek: (10:02 AM ET ) Ive played doubles the last six months becuase I missed six months and i neeeded some extra matches. Most remember me as a doubles player because I started my career as a doubles player. I would like to change and focus on singles more now.
Scott (Hamilton New Jersey): It's great to see you playing again at your level. I have one question, how did it feel to do the "worm" like that on center court?
Radek Stepanek: (10:04 AM ET ) it feels great. I did it when I won my first tiele in Holland last year and this was my second title. It feels such great in front of such a supportive crowd in LA.
Rebecca, Durham: Do you have any rituals that you practice before a match, like eat the same food, wear the same shirt?
Radek Stepanek: (10:05 AM ET ) Yes, I am superstitious. When I keep winning I keep doing the same thing. In LA I went to the same sushi restaurant and had the same breakfast and I will wear the same style of shirt. You can say Im superstitious, yes.
Fernando (Cleveland): What is your goal for the U.S. Open?
Radek Stepanek: (10:06 AM ET ) The biggest goal is to stay healthy the whole summer and play all the tournaments. We still have five weeks before the Open but I would like to continue to play at this level and see where that can take me at the Open.
Dan (New Hampshire): How much longer do you plan on playing?
Radek Stepanek: (10:07 AM ET ) I would like to play as long as my body is fit. I started later so my body isnt overused. I love the game and competition and as long as my body is willing I will play as long as I can and as long as I have the game to compete.
Mark, Virginia: In your opinion, do you think Rafael Nadal will overtake Roger Federer as the No. 1 player in the world by the end of NEXT season?
Radek Stepanek: (10:09 AM ET ) Very tough question. From the last month my feeling is that Nadal is closing on Roger. They had a very tough battle at Wimbledon where Roger is unbeatable and Nadal pushed him to the limit. If it is going to happen this year or next it's hard to say but Nadal is getting closer.
Paskewich, SD: Do you think you can get back into the Top 10 in the world?
Radek Stepanek: (10:10 AM ET ) Once Ive been there so I have the ability, but after such injury it takes time, patience and hard work. If I didnt believe that there would be no reason for me to play. I know what I am capable but I just need to be patient and do some hard work.
Grant (Toronto): How difficult has it been to come back from the dislocated disk in your neck?
Radek Stepanek: (10:12 AM ET ) For me it was very tough because the neck injury took all my feel, touch and power from my right hand. I didnt know if I was able to play again. My doctor helped me to find a way back. It was tough but I am happy im back. It took me six months to get back and I need to play a lot of matches and slowly feeling my body is getting back to where it was before but I still need some time to get back to 100 percent.
ray, denver, co: How did you hurt your neck? Are you back to 100%?
Radek Stepanek: (10:13 AM ET ) I was standing still, waiting for practice when I felt somebody put a knife in my neck. It came out of nowhere. Ten days later I woke up and I couldnt feel my right hand and your muscles started to atrophy because there was no life in my right hand, especially my fingers.
Eli Samaha : Did you read Blake's book before your match to gain some pointers about his weaknesses? Did you use any of it against him in the final (like how he broke his neck; how did you use that to your advantage)?
Radek Stepanek: (10:14 AM ET ) No I didnt but like a lot of players I will buy it because I know what he went through with his neck injury and know he went through.
Radek Stepanek: (10:15 AM ET ) I have my doubles parnter and several Czech players. The tour is one big traveling family and we seem to get along very well.
Abid, Vancouver BC: What is your favorite tournament to play?
Radek Stepanek: (10:16 AM ET ) Rotterdam and LA, where I won my two titles! The Slams, everyone looks up to them. Playing in Miami is great as is Viena.
Katya (Moscow): If you could have any other's player best shot, what would it be?
Radek Stepanek: (10:17 AM ET ) I would take Pete Sampras' serve because he was able to get out of trouble with his serve and it made his life on the court much easier.
Djole: If you were not a tennis player, what would you be?
Radek Stepanek: (10:18 AM ET ) Tough question because I am happy what I am doing, but when I was younger I wanted to be a hockey goalkeeper.
Carlos: What do you think about the players who are still playing on clay in Europe during the US Open Series?
Radek Stepanek: (10:20 AM ET ) Every player has his own favorite surface. For me I can play on all surfaces, so for me it doesnt matter. Players who like to play on clay, I think that is why they are staying in Europe and they want to use the time to play on their favorite surface, which is understandable.
Inge, Austria: What are your best memories off and on the court?
Radek Stepanek: (10:21 AM ET ) We had a funny story in Rotterdam when a naked guy ran on the court during the trophy presentation. In every tournament you have so many stories. In LA, I met Wayne Gretzky and that was an amazing five minutes with him. Those are the things I will remember for a long time.
Abid, Vancouver BC: Being on the road, and having such a busy schedule, how hard is it to spend time with Martina?
Radek Stepanek: (10:23 AM ET ) When two players have a relationship, everyone has to be preofessional. We try to spend much time together and doing well and are in tournaments together. We make the best of our time together. It's a differnet life than usual because people go to their jobs and come home in the evening. Our job is different and that is just what it takes.
Abid, Vancouver BC: Who's your favorite goal tender in hockey? Is it Hasek ?
Radek Stepanek: (10:24 AM ET ) Definitely it's Hasek. And my favorite player is Jaromir Jagr, who was with me at WImbledon and at Roland Garrros. We had a great time.
Kenneth: Was Lendl your favourite player when you were a kid?
Radek Stepanek: (10:25 AM ET ) Lendl, definitely. Im luck enough that I met him here in the US and we are good friends. He was the first player who brought a lot of attention to what he did off the court and I have a lot of respect for him.
Radek Stepanek: (10:27 AM ET ) thank you for the time and the questions and all of your support. I hope to see all of you out on the tour. Take care.
Svetlana. 07-30-2007, 04:05 PM Radek is in Washington this week. I took this picture during the rain delay on Sunday afternoon.

Stepanek to keep playing for Czechs
Associated Press
PRAGUE, Czech Republic (AP) - Radek Stepanek will continue to play for the Czech Republic after coming out of retirement to help his country beat Switzerland in the Davis Cup playoff in September.
Stepanek agreed to be available for selection in next year's Davis Cup, Josef Nechutny, secretary general of the Czech tennis federation, said Wednesday
The Czechs will host Belgium in the World Cup first round, which is to be played Feb. 8-10.
Stepanek, ranked 35th, returned to the Czech team last month for the first time since 2004 due to a dispute with Czech officials.
He beat Stanislas Wawrinka in the decisive match of the Sept. 21-23 playoff series in Prague to give the Czechs a 3-2 win over Switzerland, whose team included Roger Federer.
Stepanek initially said he was returning for the playoff only.

Kristen 01-03-2008, 05:40 AM A not-so-great photo of Radek training in Adelaide this week.
Deydey2910 01-23-2008, 04:16 PM hello! I would know if there are photos with Nicole Vaidisova and RAdek Stepanek??
Sorry, but I don't speak english because I am French.
Thank you!
Tom Paulman 01-24-2008, 09:04 AM Deydey2910, I don't know if there are any photos of them on the net, they want to keep their relationship private and haven't been spotted together yet (but they sit in each other players boxes)
Tom Paulman 01-30-2008, 10:49 PM Czech Radek Stepanek is one of the funniest guys on the ATP Tour; he loves nothing better than to share a laugh, impersonate a fellow player or instigate a practical joke in the locker room. On the court the former World No.8 has become well-known for his signature 'worm' celebration. Below, Radek discusses the last time...
I hired a tennis court?
In December 2005 I paid $1000 to hire a court for a month in Prague to practise during the off-season. I was not at all surprised that I had to pay that amount.
I played a match that no-one watched?
When I was young my parents watched every match I played, so I always had at least one or two spectators! But I don't think I've ever played a match that no one watched.
I didn't have my credential with me and I couldn't get to where I needed to go?
I lose my credential nearly every week and they won't even let me into the stadium, so I have to keep getting a new one made. In the first week of the year in Adelaide I lost the room key to my hotel eight or nine times. But they let me go because they got to know me after the third or fourth time.
I changed the home page on my computer?
I am a computer novice. I'm happy if I can log onto my email account, so whatever home page is on the computer, I leave it. The home page is www.seznam.cz
I spoke with my hero, Ivan Lendl?
I had lunch with him at a Chinese restaurant just before Christmas. I had noodles with seafood and he had a lot of stuff he probably didn't eat during his career. He lives in the next neighborhood to me in Bradenton, Florida. I looked up to him when I was younger and he was the one who brought professionalism to the sport with his conditioning.
I was asked if I was a tennis player?
I had some people on the flight from Los Angeles to Australia ask me what I was doing. And then I met some of the same people in the hotel in Adelaide, so it was quite funny.
I broke a string?
I'm not someone who changes racquets every nine games. I play five sets with the same racquet, so it's not unusual for me to break a string, and it always seems to be the fifth string from the left (on the mains) that breaks. In fact today I broke a string (in a second-round win over Andreas Seppi in Sydney) and I also broke a racquet. I didn't throw or smash my racquet; I just hit a running forehand where the racquet touched the ground.
I visited a country for the first time?
Paraguay three years ago when we went to South America for Davis Cup. The life there is very tough for the people. But we had a good time - we won 5-0.
I played a practical joke in the locker room?
Last year in Barcelona I imitated some players in the locker room. I think they liked it. I also did it in the players' lounge in front of about 40 players, so it was quite funny. I would imitate whoever they told me to do. I also did some imitations with Djokovic in the locker room in Adelaide last year and also in Paris.
I asked someone for their autograph?
I asked my best friend to get the autograph of [NHL star] Jaromir Jágr. He signed his jersey 'To my best friend, Jaromir Jágr 68.' [Jágr wears the number 68 in honor of the Prague Spring rebellion that occurred in Czechoslovakia in 1968, also the year in which his grandfather died while in prison.] I'm thinking of putting it on the wall. I would like to get Bono's autograph. If I could meet him, that would be a dream.
I almost missed a celebrity I wanted to meet?
I met Wayne Gretzky and I think it was the only time in my life when my hand was sweating. But I almost passed him by. I was walking from the locker room to the players' lounge in Los Angeles in July 2007. It can be dark in that tunnel. Right before I turned into the lounge, a guy from the ATP grabbed me and pulled me to the side. Next thing I knew he was introducing me to Wayne Gretzky. He really is "The Great One," and I almost walked right past him! I didn't even know what to say to him.
I had a bad hotel experience?
I played a Challenger tournament in India seven or eight years ago. There was a big hole under my door and when I woke up in the morning I found two or three animals under my bed. That wasn't such a nice experience.

Tom Paulman 04-10-2008, 10:14 PM Safin is nominated for 2 singles matches. I don't think that his nomination is serious though.

Lunaris 04-11-2008, 04:54 PM Safin's nomination was quite serious indeed.
At least Radek made Andreev look like a junior.
GlennMirnyi 04-11-2008, 05:06 PM Screw you Berdych you choker. As usual you screw everything up. Losing to a semi-retired clown.
Stepanek you monster, never in doubt you'd save the team. :worship:

Brilliant performance from Radek! He dominated the match and hardly made errors at the net. If this clown named Berdych didn't lose to Safin (I still hope someone will wake me up), we could have been in comfortable 2-0 lead.
Hopefully Radek keeps his today's form till the end of the weekend.

Yeah, freaking choker Berdych.
Tomorrow a crucial day, but I'm sure the Czechs will win. :yeah:
Tom Paulman 04-12-2008, 02:40 PM Nothing to celebrate after today. I am still shaking my head at Berdych's result. It could have been 2-1 for Czech Rep. now
GlennMirnyi 04-12-2008, 04:18 PM Navratil fucked up putting Vizner to play.
Tom Paulman 04-19-2008, 04:42 PM Radek faces Soderling in Monte Carlo R1 :/ Not the easiest draw but good luck. He needs to bring his A game like in the Andreev match.
GlennMirnyi 04-19-2008, 04:50 PM Rado the monster won their last meeting on clay, so I expect a tough match with a Stepanek win. :p
Tom Paulman 05-05-2008, 09:55 AM Radek faces Nieminen in Rome R1, hopefully it's an easy win but you never know these days... then Ferrer in R2 :scared:
GlennMirnyi 05-06-2008, 12:20 AM Sexy Rado won 6/3 3/6 6/3. :worship:
Tom Paulman 05-07-2008, 04:31 PM Yes Radek!!! :worship: Took out Ferrer, QF is waiting, just needs to take care of Horna.
GlennMirnyi 05-07-2008, 05:25 PM Rado beats Ferrer 4/6 6/2 6/1. :worship:
What a freaking monster!
Horna will be easy as hell, clown can't return serve. Steppa-time!
GlennMirnyi 05-09-2008, 02:45 AM Rado lays the law down again and beats mug Horna 6/4 1/6 6/3.
Next: Federer.
Tom Paulman 05-09-2008, 09:46 AM This will be the end station, but good tournament, Radek :yeah: I thought he could beat Fed in Montreal when Radek was in superb form, but unfortunately that's not the case of this tournament. He was struggling in the Horna match :( Still secretly hoping for an upset ;)
Bobble 05-09-2008, 05:24 PM 7-6 7-6, that's the stuff dreams are made of
GlennMirnyi 05-09-2008, 05:37 PM Sexy Rado the legend Stepanek beats Federer 7/6 7/6.
Tom Paulman 05-09-2008, 06:18 PM Fucking amazing, I'm still smiling. This has to be the greatest win of his career :worship: Who would have thought it?
GlennMirnyi 05-09-2008, 06:26 PM Fucking amazing, I'm still smiling. This has to be the greatest win of his career :worship: Who would have thought it?
Yep. I wake up, turn the TV on and read: Steps 7/6 5/5 30-30, watch his playing and think - damn, he's winning this. Then I had lunch and came back up just to watch his MP.
What a legend!
Lunaris 05-09-2008, 07:02 PM Fucking amazing, I'm still smiling. This has to be the greatest win of his career :worship: Who would have thought it?
Me too, this made my day. :D
GlennMirnyi 05-09-2008, 07:05 PM Mine too.
It's sexytime!
Royston63 05-10-2008, 07:48 AM omg superb tennis of RADEK :)
Tom Paulman 05-10-2008, 03:04 PM Damn, Radek looked terrible today  Good luck in Hamburg then, this was still a good tournament.
GlennMirnyi 05-10-2008, 03:29 PM What was Rado's injury?
Tom Paulman 05-10-2008, 05:03 PM Heat exhaustion I think, he looked like he was drunk, they were giving him icy towels...
GlennMirnyi 05-10-2008, 05:08 PM Heat exhaustion I think, he looked like he was drunk, they were giving him icy towels...
:o drunk!
sharapower 05-10-2008, 07:57 PM Does anybody have the match of Radek against Federer? That'd be great to watch it again :D
Tom Paulman 05-10-2008, 09:01 PM "I already didn't feel well after morning's practice. Then I ate my lunch and it got better. But I started having dizziness during the match and felt worse and worse".
Don't know the link to full post-match interview but he said this.
Lunaris 05-11-2008, 06:04 PM Does anybody have the match of Radek against Federer? That'd be great to watch it again :D
It's on belco's website t3nnis.tv I think. Torrent file.
Tom Paulman 05-11-2008, 08:33 PM Radek out of Hamburg
Agassi Fan 05-13-2008, 04:11 PM He played great against Federer!
Tom Paulman 05-16-2008, 10:54 PM Nice highlights from the Federer match, including the worm :D

Tom Paulman 05-28-2008, 07:17 PM Radek thrashed Simon in RG 1st round and now needs to beat Vanek to get to R3 :yeah:
I saw only part of the 2nd set and he played very well, good to see him keeping his good form of late :yeah:
GlennMirnyi 05-28-2008, 08:28 PM Rado is the best Czech player.
R3 is a real possibility now.
Break it down!
Tom Paulman 05-29-2008, 08:48 PM Rado in R3 :worship: Robredo next
Robredo leads H2H 3-0 on clay, 7-0 in sets :scared:
I hope Radek can find a way to beat him and do the worm in his face, he's in form and it would feel good to have the more entertaining player in R4.
GlennMirnyi 05-29-2008, 09:35 PM Boredo freaking cunt.
You know what I find strange? The match-up should be helpful for Rado... Boredo can't play against big servers... even Roddick beat him on clay, S&V (something he definitely CAN'T DO!!!).
Tom Paulman 05-29-2008, 10:17 PM Yeah I thought about it too. He also recently lost to Karlovic on clay. He's the type of player who likes to rally from the baseline and Radek shouldn't give him much rhythm, but the H2H is scary. Boredo beat him easily even in Hamburg, when Radek was in top form.
Rado got his 1st win over Boredo this year in Sydney, so hopefully he will keep turning the H2H around :)

Must be mental... game-wise Radek should demolish Boredo.
Tom Paulman 05-31-2008, 01:53 PM 6-3 6-2 6-1
A complete thrashing :worship: Shame that this was on court #7 and all the channels were showing some disgusting WTA tennis  I hope the next match will be broadcasted, Ferrer or Hewitt stand in Rado's way to QF
TMJordan 05-31-2008, 01:55 PM I love this result as it is revenge from Hamburg, Radek has killed Boredo twice this year.
No dobt IMO Radek can win his next match with the level he is currently at.
Tom Paulman 06-02-2008, 08:18 PM Radek lost in 5 sets, again
Last 2 sets were really frustrating to watch except the comeback in final set, when Radek fought back from 2 breaks down, 0-4* to *3-4. Where the f*ck was his serve? He looked like Coria, couldn't hit a 1st serve and was making double faults at the worst moments. Apart from the serve, he played really well and surprisingly spent most time rallying at the baseline, hitting some beautiful winners. He will be #16 next week and has almost nothing to defend in the upcoming 4 weeks.
I'm really mad cause this was Radek's best chance to reach GS semis and he could have won this in 4, if the serve was working.
Tom Paulman 06-02-2008, 08:36 PM Next tournaments: Halle, Nottingham, Wimbledon
EternalxJourney 06-03-2008, 01:20 AM Why doesn't Radek have his own forum on MTF? He's way too good to have only one thread about him.
GlennMirnyi 06-03-2008, 01:30 AM Radek lost in 5 sets, again

MTF only gives forums to pampered brats/cheaters/cute players with lot of fangirls.
EternalxJourney 06-03-2008, 01:51 AM MTF only gives forums to pampered brats/cheaters/cute players with lot of fangirls.
Can't we rally to get him a forum? I'm sure Radek has more fans here. I just recently became a fan after watching him play awesome aggressive tennis at RG so I'm positive others will too if they just look past his looks. For god's sake, even Srichaphan has a forum and he isn't even playing!

We could try, but it's a slow process and it's on voting, so we'd need a lot of people in this too.
Tom Paulman 06-03-2008, 01:35 PM To be honest I've never felt any need for player forum. I don't have any problem with the fact that there is only 1 thread. Although if there was a poll, I would vote for it.
Maybe the only thing I would like to do is to change the thread title from time to time, like "Sexy time at RG" :) Maybe me and/or Gustavo could become mods of the thread, if there is such a thing?
GlennMirnyi 06-03-2008, 05:40 PM Yep, I agree. Maybe a joint thread ownage? :p I think also that you deserve it more than me Tom, after all you're the Czech here, but if you want someone with more time in MTF lately, then I won't run from that honour. :p :)
Rado's road to Wimbledon SF has just started. :rocker:
Tom Paulman 06-04-2008, 09:10 PM Well the best thing would be if we both could moderate this thread, but I don't know if it's possible. The fact that I'm Czech doesn't give me any special privilege :) I am not a fan of many Czech players, so I think I would still be Radek's fan even if I wasn't Czech. And as you said, you probably spend a bit more time here (although I'm slowly becoming an addict too) :)

- The injury is in the place that's hard to heal. What helps is rest, so he's just relaxing.
- He should play on Tuesday so he's glad he got an extra day off and hopes to play

Radek is 2-0 vs. Andreev so hopefully he will win again and not like last week vs. Lopez  He's also playing doubles with Berdych (Olympics preparation) and they won their 1st round match vs. Lopez/Verdasco. Bhupathi/Knowles are next, they are No. 4 seeds but Radek & Tomas already beat them this year in Sydney.

Biofile: The Radek Stepanek Interview
By Scoop Malinowski

Radek Stepanek has spent the first two months of this season climbing back into the top 20. He spends his offseason going downhill fast.
The 30-year-old Czech is an avid downhill skier who scaled a personal summit on the court by reaching a career-high rank of No. 8 shortly after surging into the Wimbledon quarterfinals in July of 2006. Stepanek was on a high, but a neck and back injuries sidelined him for much of the second half of that season and threatened his career.
Stepanek bounced back to win the 2007 Los Angeles tittle and is off to the best start of his career this year. Stepanek, who has celebrated some of his biggest wins in recent weeks with his distinctive worm dance on court has wiggled back into the top 20 and is intent on heading even higher.
He has reached the final in three of his five tournament starts this season, dispatching Fernando Verdasco, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3 to open the season by winning the Brisbane title, then scoring successive victories over defending champion Andy Roddick and Mardy Fish to capture his second title of the season at the SAP Open in San Jose earlier this month.
The fifth-seeded Czech knocked off Juan Martin del Potro in last week's Memphis quarterfinals and extended his winning streak to nine matches before bowing to Roddick, 7-5, 7-5, in a high-quality final. Stepanek can be a maddening player to face because of his ability to alter the pace and abruptly change tactics in the course of a point and he threw a variety of different looks at Roddick before bowing. Stepanek has posted a 16-3 record in rising to No. 16 in the rankings. He will lead the Czech Republic when it hosts a formidable French team featuring Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, Gilles Simon, Gael Monfils, Richard Gasquet and Michael Llodra in next weekend's Davis Cup first-round tie in Ostrava.
The son of a policeman father and librarian mother, who was born in Karvina, a mining town in the northern Czech Republic near the Polish border, Stepanek has has remained true to his Czech roots. One of Stepanek's best friends is fellow Czech Jiri Novak, he has won two doubles titles with countryman Martin Damm, he dates compatriot Nicole Vaidisova, cites Hall of Famer Ivan Lendl as one of his tennis heroes, he has been coached by compatriot Tomas Krupa and credits Petr Korda with providing the insight that helped him make significant strides on the ATP Tour in 2002.
Relying on a strong serve (Stepanek is currently sixth on the ATP Tour's ace leader list with 133 aces), Stepanek is an all surface threat, who is particularly potent playing on fast indoor surfaces. His 11-3 record on carpet last season was the second-best record on the surface.
Stepanek captured his first career tournament title on hard court in Rotterdam in February, 2006, reached the Tennis Masters Series-Hamburg final on red clay in May and advanced to the Wimbledon quarterfinals on grass in July of that year. He owns career wins over Gustavo Kuerten, Goran Ivanisevic, Juan Carlos Ferrero, Fabrice Santoro, Novak Djokovic, Nicolas Kiefer, Rainer Schuettler, Max Mirnyi, Xavier Malisse, Fernando Verdasco, Marcos Baghdatis, Jose Acasuso, Feliciano Lopez and Ivan Ljubicic.
Tennis Week contributing writer Scoop Malinowski caught up with Stepanek for this Biofile interview.
Height: 6-foot-1 Weight: 167 pounds.
Born: November 27, 1978 in Karvina, Czech Republic.
Childhood Heroes: "For me it was — for every Czech player it was — Ivan Lendl. He did a lot for our sport in Czech Republic. Even he moved to the U.S. to be the best player in the world. And Martina Navratilova did the same thing. Followed by Petr Korda who won a Slam tournament. So those are the heroes for Czech tennis."
Hobbies/Interests: "I like to watch hockey, NHL, play football. But I'm more careful that I'm not getting injured during those other sports. I love skiing."
Nickname: "Steps."
Favorite Movies: "All (James) Bond movies."
Musical Tastes: "Best group in the world — U2 [smiles]."
Early Tennis Memory: "I started when I was three-years-old because my father was playing some club matches in Czech Republic. And I had the choice: to go with my mother to library or with my father to the tennis courts. And I chose with my father to the tennis courts. And while was waiting for him, I was carrying the racquets, not even hitting the ball. (Mom worked at library?) Yes. And she still (does)."
Favorite Meal: "Czech meals."
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Vanilla."
Pre-Match Feeling: "I'm just trying to relax and don't think too much about it until the time comes."
First Job: "Tennis player [laughs]."
First Car: "Skoda blue Czech car."
Greatest Sports Moment: "2004 Paris Bercy finals (lost to Safin)."
Most Painful Moment: "So far, I didn't have a painful moment. And I hope that it will never come [smiles]."
Closest Tennis Friends: "Closest friends — the Czech guys. We are all one group. So all the Czech boys."
Funniest Players: "Called English Henman humor [smiles]. And we just make the fun in our Czech group, so."
Toughest Competitors: "I play many times against Nadal. All the top guys are different. So all of them are difficult to play on the Tour."
Favorite Players To Watch: "I like to watch Roger because it seems everything very easy. And I like to watch Roddick's matches."
Favorite Vacation Spot: "I'm happy when I'm a few days back in Czech Republic. But with my girlfriend, we went twice Maldives."
Funny Tennis Memory: "Watching the old matches that they show at Wimbledon when it's raining, all the fights between between McEnroe and Connors and all those old guys, it's very funny."
Embarrassing Tennis Memory: "Not really. I'm enjoying the tennis life, everything that belongs to it."
Favorite Tournaments: "For me it's Miami — it's a nice place, nice weather, it's well organized. Vienna, because it's 50 kilo from border of Czech Republic. Very close and I can bring my family which is perfect. And U.S. Open. I like the atmosphere of New York City — playing, practicing, whatever. And you can get lost in the city which is perfect."
Interesting Fact: In November of 2001, Radek (at the time ranked 547 in the world) approached countryman Petr Korda to ask how he could improve his game and Korda told him, "I will help you but you will listen to everything, and I guarantee to you that by the end of the year you will be ranked in the top 70." By the end of 2002, Stepanek was ranked number 63 in the world.
People Qualities Most Admired: "Optimistic with a sense of humor. And I don't like when somebody lies. So the truth."

The DC pic is awesome! I can't wait for that DC tie, I really like Radek, it should be fun.

I had never heard of Radek as the "Czech Belmondo", but the comparison is quite good. It's very positive in France, I don't know if Belmondo is famous abroad, but he is a very popular actor in France. Nothing new otherwise.

Certinfy 11-19-2009, 05:17 PM Good year.
Nolby 11-22-2009, 12:15 AM Inspired by outrage over Robin Soderling not having his own Message Board and then subsequently shocked by news from Cloudygirl that even Radek does not one, I just added a new request/poll for Radek to get his own Player Message Board.
Please vote (http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=154502) ! http://www.menstennisforums.com/showthread.php?t=154502
I went through 4 Country Forums (I didn't feel I needed to any further research) and found the following players have message boards whereas Radek does not:
-Eduardo Schwank (Argentina, current rank #137, career high ranking #50) :o
-Evgeny Korolev (Russia, career ranking #52, which is also highest ranking) :smash:
-Jan-Michael Gambill (US, current ranking #908, highest career #14 in 2001):shout:
-Agustin Calleri (Argentina, current rank #394, highest career #16 in 2003)
-Guillermo Garcia-Lopez (Spain, current rank #42, which is also highest ranking) :smash:
-Mariano Zabaleta (Argentina, current rank #311, highest career #21 in 2000)
This is an outrage! Please let your vote count! Thank you!

krystlel 01-10-2010, 10:22 AM Stepanek put in a great effort today against Roddick. It's just a shame that his tennis wasn't up to par on the big points.
