Dementieva hasnt really beaten anyone special to get here, cibulkova was a big let down and there were glimpses yesterday of her old self, served quite a few df, navvaro missed 5 bps in one game which could of turned the match. Agreed her baseline game at the momment is second to none but she has a habit of losing to a william sister in grand slams, with serena at least you know what your gonna get, especially in grand slams, she wont go down easy.

considering whether to hedge my outright on Serena. She's rode her luck last few matches but then she must be one of the mentally toughest athletes in sport and she often brings her best out of nowhere at this stage of a tournament. She was a big dog in her final few matches in 07.

Definitely value with Safina, had that breakthrough slam at the French last season and in a tight situation I would rather have my money on Safina than Bepa. My only concern is her serve really has regressed from last season, throwing in way too many DF's for my liking.

- used up significantly less energy on court to get here than Serena (even ignoring her doubles court time). This is more pertinent considering the quick turnaround for this match.

GS pedigree and mental toughness will only get you so far. Serena has looked slow both in Sydney and here at the Open, has been riding her luck up to this point against both Azarenka and Kuznetsova. No roof would be a bonus but don't think it will matter in the washup.

Safina is not really playing her best tennis. Above all on serve. Bepa should play really well this week. Now, she knows how to win big matches. She was not far to win the WTA Sony Ericsson Championships against Venus Williams.

I like Dinara's value. She's been winning the same way Serena has.... UGLY! Vera is playing great tennis, but when both are playing solid tennis Dinara is clearly the better player. I'm rolling with Safina on this one. Can't pass her up as an underdog against someone in their first GS Semi that has a history of mental breakdowns.

Sounds good to me. I'm on the Dementieva train as well. I'm not really impressed by Serena's last match considering it came against Kuznetsova, a player who managed to hit almost 70 UE's and win a match. She was in worst form than Serena.

I agree. Based on form alone Zvonareva should be the favorite to win the whole thing. I wouldn't mind that... I mean she has pretty eyes I guess. What were the odds of her winning the whole thing or currently, if there are any?
