It looks like it is better for him to lose the first set.

That's rather strange. Melzer hasn't won one match at a master series event since madrid 05.
Does any other top 30 player have such a stat?

Horrible from Jürgen, simply unbelievable :smash:

If this player exists, it should be no current top30 player. I'm wondering if this ever happened in the last years.

[QUOTE=Julio1974;5205763]Well done "Escopeta"

Probably, combining opponent and venue, the best win in his career. He has been close to big time wins earlier in his career (at least three times); i hope now he can start winning those matches.

good win

I had a feeling he'd win and I was surprised when he lost the first set like that

Well, Melzer owns Max. You have to agree with me it's easier for him to win against Roitman than Melzer. ;)

I am curious about this match. But Max has to serve better than against Marcos.

But Marcos returns much better, even when in a slump.

Good to see the Escopeta was firing and take down the Beast.

True, Marcos lost the match because he could not hit a passing shot past Max, not because Max served at a low %.

Willy he is called escopeta because of his escopetazo in the drive not because of his physic as i first thought.

His backhand is also powerful but not as powerfull as his drive.

I heard him in an interview saying that it was because of his physical appearance too.

Usually forehands are more powerful than backhands.

True, Marcos lost the match because he could not hit a passing shot past Max, not because Max served at a low %.

And Max stayed back a lot, especially when not serving. Max served badly, but even when Marcos put in a good return, he was trying to pass Max the wrong way, that is, aiming at his body. He's no clown at the net, volleys at the body are bread-and-butter for a doubles player.

Thanks :D I remember his match against Al Costa at the 2003 FO, Roitman was so close but the defending champion was such a warrior.

He confirmed what I said.

"Algunos me preguntan por qué me llaman Escopeta. En realidad se dieron dos cosas: la razón es porque mi mejor golpe es la derecha, decían que salía como con una escopeta. Pero además, de chico era flaco y alto como escopeta. Entonces, no quedaba mal. Lo escuché por primera vez en los torneos juniors, cuando tenía 14 ó 15 años."

He said this in his Casablanca blog.

He says that he was called Escopeta because of his forehand. And as he was thick and tall it matched, exactly. :rocker2:

No, he was called Escopeta because of his forehand and then he realised that the nickname matched with his physic :ras:

Someone called him "escopeta" when he was 14 or 15, because of how hard he hits. Then he realises that it suites him perfectly because he is also thin and tall like an "escopeta", and decides to adopt the nickname....

So if someone asks, why is he called "escopeta"?, a good way to answer it would be:

tall, thin and hits hard. Like an "escopeta".

Now, wouldn't that be right?

Right thing would be both things, anyway, what I said before was from his source. I talked to him at Copa Telmex. Anyway :ras: Its a convination of both.
