Gasquet defeats Verdasco 7-5 6-7(12) 7-6(3)

Congrats, Gasquet, he fought hard and hang it tough most of the time and very well done, Verdasco, way to self destruct in both 1st and 2nd sets when serving them out and also blowing a 2-0 40-0 lead and another break up 3-1, 3 ue at 6-5 0-30 in the 3rd :yeah:

Most entertaining part of the match was that tight 2nd set tie-breaker (really surprised Verdasco nailed it tbh), with some good shots and also some funny chokes from both.

I knew Verdasco´s career was going nowhere fast this season but this is getting silly, he´s really getting the better of his choker self every match he plays.

I can´t feel sorry for him despite he fought hard in the end, congrats Fer, you´re undoubtely the biggest tool in tour :retard:

Gasquet led 5:2 after two mini-breaks then had 5 match points: 6:5 (double fault), 7:6, 9:8, 10:9, 11:10.
What a strange match  3 hours 20 minutes.

Hilarious match. They outchoked each other solidly for 3 hours 20 minutes until Nando claimed the final choke victory in emphatic style.

There was good tennis, atrocious tennis, injury timeouts, more breaks of serve than a WTA tournament and in the end Gasquet had just a bit more.

Verdasco is a special case. Saving 5 match points in the 2nd set then came back from 3:5 (0-30) down to 6:5 (30-0), being two points away from victory, made a couple of unforced errors :o Verdasco :smash:

I'd like to say a fuck you to Gasquet and Verdasco. I skipped a class (from 8am to 10am) today to be able to watch Fed. I woke up at 7.20am and by 7.45am the match was in the middle of the 2nd set, so I figured I'd skip the class. How in hell did these two chokers only finished the match by 10.10am is beyond me. I could have gone to class and return just in time to watch Fed. But knowing my bad luck if I had gone to class, Gasquet would have won easily and Fed's match would have also ended very quickly, and would have missed all. Oh, well. Whatever.

I think that Gasquet-Verdasco are never good matchs. The one in Toronto was bad as well. Gasquet is too happy to play secure 10m behind the baseline against a guy he knows can explode at every moment.

Richard made the most difficult by winning a match in which he played very poorly.

The Good from that match is that it will give his confidence back,he need it afterhis loss against youzni at DC
He proved that he didnt give up and fought.

Great play from verdasco,he surprised me in this match, especially on the tie break,he had his chances, sorry forhim but richard wanted it a little bit more perhaps.

Gasquet also choked away MPs in the 2nd set TB and got broken when he served for the match in the third.

And your point is? Verdasco should have never let him being in that position, blowing 5-3 and 5-4 30-0 in first set, another 5-3 in the second and a 2-0 40-0 lead in the decider, what else do you want? Not even Santa Claus gifts that much. Bottom line is that he outchoked Gasquet big time and ended up losing this, it couldn´t have had a different end with him

One break isn't a lot on clay. Moreover, there were plenty of breaks in this match. Plus, you mentioned the lead Verdasco choked in the third set and neglected to add that Gasquet had many opportunities to end it in two. :)

Anyway, I don't see what the fuss is. Both players took their turns to choke and that's that. :)

When you have 5-4 30-0 on own serve in the first set and you make 4 ue in a row (1st set should have been yours), when you miss a set point on 5-3 in the 2nd on a trivial put away and end up losing the game and committing 5 silly ues in your next service game to level it up at 5 all (second set should have been yours as well) and if this was not enough, when you´re up 2-0 40-0 in the decider and you make 4ues in next 5 points to get broken again (Gasquet himself told Corretja that game was the real key in the match, he was about to give up), then excuse me but there´s no way you can compare the weight of both players´ blown chances

at least one poster gets professional sports.
winning-thats all that counts. :D

gasquet loses and people here say its because he sucks. gasquet wins and people here say the other guy choked.
winning ugly also says something positive about a player. remember verdasco lost ugly. who would you rather be;)

gasquet cant win on mtf:confused:

qoute from eurosport:

"I ran out of gas in the second set and I have to say the Davis Cup defeat against Russia hurt me a lot," Gasquet said afterwards. :banghead: i hope he gives up on dc, seems to be ruining his tennis and destroying his body!;)

"But it is a beautiful tournament here and I had no choice but to win this match." :banghead:

That BH winner DTL to break back in the 3rd set is what brought Gasquet back into the match, it spurred him on...Without that confidence boost he would have been ready to give up.

Actually from psychological point of view very interesting battle  Gasquet is strong mentally - he wasted so many great opportunities and then at 5:6 (0-30) in the third he was so relaxed. On the other hand Verdasco choked at that moment... A good roller coaster between two very talented players.

That was one crazy match. I thought the highlight of the match was when Gasquet hit like 4 lets in a row. They were both laughing about it and Verdasco went and sat in the chair. It was cute. I'm surprised it stayed as close as it did after Verdasco's medical time out. It surely wasn't an impressive match by either of them. They both played poorly and it was equal on both sides....just look at the total points won for each of them (138 each). I wanted Verdasco to win and he had his chance to break at the end of the 3rd.......at least it didn't end in a retirement.
