But still Ferrero leads 5-4 in their H2H... actually is 5-5 (one match in a Challenger)

Everything was perfect; all the top contenders had already been ousted and he had the best chance to finally win a tournament and get his confidence back. Instead he decides to just chicken out.

And a serve. Good God, was he just spinning the damn thing over the net? He had like an 85% first serve but he barely won any of those points! WTH, man?!!

Ferrero :help:

Losing to a guy who couldn't beat Dani Koellerer last week. In fact, Martin got his ass kicked 1-6, 4-6.

For God's sake, JC, just be a man...and quit...

The field is wide open now. Great opportunity for the journeymen and the up and coming talents like RMK.

:haha: quit? when he is making stacks of money, you are a headcase. Martin is usually a very consistent clay courter. No shame.

I really think JCF is just complacent he knows he cant get to the level he was, ranking wise, he won RG, was number one and he cant ever win a slam or get to #1 again so he just doesnt have the motivation, imo...

Well, the only thing that cheers me up is that JC was playing pretty much like his old self in Acapulco earlier this year. I hadn't seen him hit the ball that well since 2003. I'm not expecting much in the AMS's coming up, but hopefully he can muster up that form again for RG. He plays better in best of five matches. His fitness is surprisingly high. The last time JC last to Martin was 2002 Barcelona, and the score was even worse than this. He ended up winning MC and reaching the finals of RG that year, so hopefully this result won't mean anything.

Boy, this news is like finding a fly in my soup. Dammit! I will continue to be optimistic, no matter how difficult it is. It's impossible for me to quit cheering for JCF, hoping to see him play well again.

Pity though, he's better than this result. I don't get it.

Actually, he lost to Martin the week after winning MC, so he was probably a little tired. Anyway, Martin was a top 40 player back then whereas now he's ranked outside the top 100 and losing to crap players on the challenger tour.

There's no doubt that JCF was always a volatile player but in those days he would only lose to top 50 players when he was playing badly. Now it seems like he can lose to absolutely anyone when playing badly.

Apparently Ferrero was in fact ill today.

http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2007/04/12/sports/EU-SPT-TEN-Valencia-Open.php

VALENCIA, Spain: Alberto Martin upset second-seeded Juan Carlos Ferrero 6-4, 6-2 Thursday in the second round of the Valencia Open.

Ferrero said he had a fever and was not physically fit for the match.

"I found myself tired from halfway through the first set, so I tried to win it so as to then be more aggressive in the second set, but I couldn't," Ferrero said.

David Ferrer, who had been the top-seeded player at the tournament, withdrew Wednesday with a back injury.

Fifth-seeded Gilles Simon of France also lost, falling to Marcel Granollers-Pujol of Spain 6-3, 4-6, 6-1.

Alright JCF, we'll let you off the hook this time. ;)

so if he was sick why not withdraw and rest up for masters series next week.
it was stupid for him to finish the match. he didn't quit because he was playing at home? not like he was giving valencia crowd anything to cheer about anyways.

Apparently JC was screaming and breaking things left and right like the hulk after the match. He was throwing his racquets down, picking them up and throwing them down again, then kicking over chairs and stuff. Or so I hear. If only he could be that intense DURING the match, and channel the anger into the forehand so it can become the killing machine it used to be.

Where did you hear this from? He said in an interview he had a fever and wasn't feeling well.

From someone who apparently was at the match. I really can't say if it's true or not, but it is really out of character for JC to erupt into a fit of rage like that. I think I've only seen JC destroy his racquet ONCE, and that was at the 2004 USO when he lost to some clown. It was a ferocious throw and even JMac gave it a 10/10.

Man some things in this thread are so mean. He had a fever so of course he's not going to be playing the best. The fact that it's his own tournament, and it's in front of his home crowd would be enough to make him want to at least finish the match, so he did the honourable thing by playing on in my opinion. And if he got angry, I'd put it down to him being disappointed that he wasn't able to please his home crowd. JC isn't an angry character, so he's allowed to get angry one in a while. Yes it's a disappointing lost, but I'm sure he tried his best given the conditions and thats all we can ask of him.

I can't wait until JC wins another title (it will happen, I assure you all of that), because it will be great for him, it will be great for his fans, and it will be great because it will shut up all those people who don't believe in him.

And also in Smash Court 2. JC is a machine in that game.
BTW, who has the better forehand in VT3? JC or Roger?
