Way to skip playing for your country for a spot in the semis over a meaningless exhibition. rofe 04-11-2007, 07:07 PM Vamos Rafa. Way to skip playing for your country for a spot in the semis over a meaningless exhibition. Shhhh. Don't let the Rafatards hear you say anything bad about their "patriotic" boy. Anyway, Nalby losing in Nadal in Mallorca is kind of expected. I would love to watch them play each other in a match that matters. Snowwy 04-11-2007, 07:46 PM Vamos Rafa. Way to skip playing for your country for a spot in the semis over a meaningless exhibition. The fortunate thing for Rafa, unlike for some other tennis players was that he actually could choose if he wanted to play or not. Some players were just not good enough to advance to the 2nd round, even when paired with a 2nd top ten player. It must suck to have two top ten players and still lose in the first round of DC. Johnny Groove 04-11-2007, 07:51 PM Did Nadal get a new racquet, or is it a paintjob? http://us.i1.yimg.com/us.yimg.com/p/sp/getty/67/fullj.getty-tennis-esp-nadal-baleares_1_04_03_pm.jpg Babolat is releasing a new racquet rather soon, and it will have that paintjob. Of course, Rafa still has his old racquet with the new paintjob. sorta like Ljubo wil his head microgel earlier this year. Vamos Rafa. Way to skip playing for your country for a spot in the semis over a meaningless exhibition. Yep. thats exactly what he did. Like the Spaniards had a chance anyway. :o LinkMage 04-11-2007, 07:53 PM LOL So he was "injured" for Davis Cup and a few days later he has no trouble playing an exhibition? Johnny Groove 04-11-2007, 07:55 PM LOL So he was "injured" for Davis Cup and a few days later he has no trouble playing an exhibition? It was more than a few days, first of all, and the exho was on clay, a much less injury-prone surface compared to the indoor court in USA. cmurray 04-11-2007, 08:02 PM It was more than a few days, first of all, and the exho was on clay, a much less injury-prone surface compared to the indoor court in USA. Don't bother, Jonathon. They're just happy that somebody besides Fed decided not to play for his country. Takes the heat off, I guess. kobulingam 04-11-2007, 08:21 PM It was more than a few days, first of all, and the exho was on clay, a much less injury-prone surface compared to the indoor court in USA. Nadal confirmed participation in this exo _before_ DC started. Actually, the tournament was already publicising his participation _before_ Nadal announced he wouldn't participate in DC due to foot injury (early during Miami tournament). Actually, the tournament was already publicising his participation _before_ Nadal announced he wouldn't participate in DC due to foot injury (early during Miami tournament). I know. Nadal was going to play this regardless of whether he played DC or not. But to those who say he skipped DC to play a meaningless exho is  But the fact of the matter is that since the beginning of 04, Nadal has played every tie that Spain has been in, except this one and the 1st round last year, when he was still recovering from his 4 month foot injury. Unlike Federer who decides ahead of time that DC is below him  Corswandt 04-11-2007, 09:25 PM Anyway, Nalby losing in Nadal in Mallorca is kind of expected. I would love to watch them play each other in a match that matters. Ditto. It's amazing that they have never played against each other, considering that they have entered the same tournament something like 35 times. adee-gee 04-11-2007, 09:26 PM Vamos Rafa. Way to skip playing for your country for a spot in the semis over a meaningless exhibition. Whereas "patriotic" Ljubicic has retired from representing his country :hatoff: Klaas_nalbandian 04-11-2007, 09:27 PM well not that bad for nalby this score, hopefully he will keep improving his form mashamaniac 04-11-2007, 09:41 PM vamos rafa... Unlike Federer who decides ahead of time that DC is below him  Federer used to play DC a few years ago, he has skipped it a lot since he became SuperFed using the burnout excuse, probably also since he reckons Switzerland has small chances of winning the whole thing. Nadal just did the same. I bet most of the old Davis Cup legends such as McEnroe or Wilander didn't even know what an "injury-prone surface" meant when they were asked to play Davis Cup. oz_boz 04-13-2007, 08:11 AM A thread about an meaningless exhibition match that turns into a Fed/Rafa discussion, what are the chances on this forum?  100 %. Mandoura's law.
