Clay may not be his best surface but he nearly beat Fed on clay a few years ago.

the curious thing is that the last year Dr. Ivo had some decent results on clay on minor events :tape:

Karlovic is a reigning quarter-finalist in the fifth best clay tournament in the world... :p

while Clay may not be the best surface for Ivos game, he loves playing on it.

I still cant believe there was a thread on here not too long ago saying Becker will be top 20 and when i disagreed, everyone said just wait and see. Well im waiting but not seeing too much.

Agassi would have lost against anyone in that day. He was in so much pain there...

That was the price to pay for give us the match and the performance of the year the match before!

I would love to see MTF's reaction if Karlovic actually plays and defeats Roddick on clay this season! :haha:

That was really tough to watch. He was hardly able to move at the end.

Expected win. :D

Believe me, compared to Becker, Ivo is a clay king.

Karlovic is indeed a veritable claycourt animal. In the course of winning Rome in 2004, Moya was almost outrallied by the Croat in his 6-4 3-6 6-4 win.

And yes, coming close to beating Federer on crushed brick is more than a little impressive also.

Karlovic is not bad on clay, even you would thought so looking at his baseline game :haha:

2006 clay highlights:
-Barcelona QF (beat Mirnyi, Davydenko, Korolev - lost to Wawrinka in 3)
-Munich QF (beat Haas, Phau - lost to Melzer)
-RG 2R (beat Patience in 3 tiebreaks  - lost to Hrbaty 6-4 4-6 7-6(2) 5-7 2-6

Vamos Ivo, beat Nadal this year and make people shut forever :haha:

Karlovic like all Croatians has grown up playing on clay

but his physique doesnt allow him to be suited for the surface

still he loves playing there :yeah:

If someone has so good serve as Karlovic, surface doesn't matter :yeah:

I agree. His serve will be huge on any surface and unbreakable if he is on. If anything the clay helps his poor return game by giving him a little extra time.

Not only that
He beat
Robredo.(in Rome 2004. 7-6(5) 6-4)
Haas twice on clay.(Rome 7-5 4-6 7-6(5) and Munich 6-3 7-6.)
Davydenko in Barcelona.(6-7 7-5 6-4)

Karlo returns well on clay than on faster surfaces. :)

He had a very decent score against Federer who is much better clay court player than Robredo, Haas and Davydenko. Ivo lost to Federer in Gstaad 7-6 3-6 6-7 in the second round. Later Roger won the whole event...

The guy can reach the moon with his length, so moon balling doesn't help against him :)
