Yeah, but Marat was so strong, it didn't really matter. Marats serve made a big difference today. And his groundstrokes were surprisingly solid.

France couldn't win that last rubber, but had their chances in the 2nd singles and the doubles match.

You heard it here first - the Russian coach's secret weapon in the deciding match against the Germans will be Sharapova.

(She'll sit in the stands and yelp out piercing shrieks every time the German player serves, effectively breaking his concentration and outright ruining his poise)

Come clay or carpet, indoors or outdoors, rain or shine, the Russians always win. If they win it again this year, could this be considered one of the greatest Davis Cup teams?

Will they be Coming to America in December? It's so, so close to a dream final. Two months ago, no-one would have considered the possibility (everyone was talking of a Chile-Argentina final :ras: ) but now it's almost there.

This is some bulls**t. I personally find it upsetting that Marat can be counted on to play solid tennis in DC (regardless of surface or setting) and not elsewhere on the bloody tour. There must be some way to reproduce the triggering factors for Marat. Why not bring Tarpishchev back as his personal coach? Or ship 4 rows of Russians to each of his matches? Or even hypnotize him with the flag and a matrioshka of Mother Russia?...... Something....anything....just no more of this rudderless ship that 2007 has become. Get your act together, papi!

He will.. There is nothing outrageous about his recent results actually..
He played a decent US Open, decent indoors season... Had to play Davis Cup late in season, which certainly affected his preparations to AO, where he played a good tennis, just got a tough draw.. Then .. again .. played a decent Davis Cup match in Chile.. And the rest is history.. No Russian male player ever played any good tennis in US spring hardcourts .. due to some weird reason Russians don't like .. And Safin's coach confirms that Safin dislikes those tournaments.. And now .. I just hope that his clay season is not affected by injury, like it happened last year.. Safin plays by very certain patterns during the season.. The time between AO and RG ( save for DC ties ) is not his time.. never been.. just check his records.

They do it everytime. Russians have been kicking their asses since 2002, and they still don't learn. :help:That's simply not true. I don't know for the former ties, but I followed this one and they never said that. They talked once about Roland-Garros as a possible venue for a semi-final yesterday, yes, but just in case, they never ever took a win for granted and always said France was the outsider in this tie.

french commentators should never have even mentioned that france will win against russia and to say in which stadium france will play germany was too overconfident some humility isn't too much for these guys...
well, Tarp admitted after the tie that he had expected 0-3 in France favour after the second day :tape:
Chesnokov said the chances are 60-40 in France favour, so....

oh please... you're sure you had not them on mute?
and their behaviour was really bad during the doubles. they were wishing Kolya to double fault and stuff! Pioline is the DTN and he wishes the opponent to double fault. Nice mentality :yeah:

erm, talking about France Television commentators you sure? :p
They were sooooooo in SF already. And that's something they're always doing
Like they're also (with Forget) always repeating how great is the team spirit of French players :inlove:, how good the get along, how friendly and cool the atmosphere is... and opposing it to the Russian team who they think isn't as bound, and has individualistic players. Which shows they really know shit about this team
Everytime I just wish they'll learn and won't make the same idiotic comments the next time. Everytime I'm wrong. ;)

actually not, just common sense..
Before Marat/PHM match Chesnokov was clearly sure Marat would lose. And all commentators were very gloomy.

That's another story, the stuff with the team spirit, etc. I'm not talking about that.
When did they say France already almost was in the semi-final? They're not completely crazy, everybody knew Russia was the big favourite.

That's the point, it's obvious to everyone so some humility would be appreciated, but they can't seem to show some.
And read back, I didn't say they said France was in SF, I said the commentators were there. Projecting already. Talking about the venue, about how that'd be against Germany.
And Gab has a point too, the comments on Kolya on Saturday were pretty lame :o

I admit that I found it strange that they even mentioned it, but hey, why not dream? They knew exactly that they were not the favorites.

Our commentators said Roland Garros would probably be "under construction" at this time of the year.
I lived in Paris in 2002, they'd been very lucky with the weather to play against the US. :o

Yeah, they said something about Suzanne Lenglen being under construction. I'll have to rewatch my recording to hear what exactly is supposed to happen there.

Exactly.

No, they did in fact talk about the possibility.

I only watched the end of that match, so I don't know how they said it (they're usually joking a lot), but I don't think it's thaaat unusual in DC for the commentators to hope for some bad rallies from the adversary team. They're a little more biased and emotional than usual. DC is more like soccer, so I really don't have that much of a problem with it.

And here I have to agree. That comparison with Russia was uncalled for.

I like the way they analyze the game etc.

Like Brer Rabbit...

Tarpi: Gosh, Guy, I was so in awe of your team selections :worship: I thought you were going to whip us into the dust! Please don't ever distribute your players like that again! :scared:
Guy: :D :bounce:

I know this is definitely not the right place to ask, but I don't want to revive very old threads.. Can somebody tell me where I can get those red Davis Cup outfits, which had been worn by the Russian team after their victory against Argentina last year?
