Good work all round from the US team this weekend - they've all done their part well to wrap this up in 2 days.

The spaniards showed some great fighting spirit. Fun to watch although this match proves the Bryans are overrated. They struggled vs 2 mediocre singles players with bad volleys infront of a huge home crowd. They get their wins vs singles players who could care less about doubles and there is little competition on the doubles tour.

IvanLjubicic is your ass still hurting after croatia fall and ljubo pathetic form?? Bryans overrated hahaha they are the best doubles for 4th straight year 5th in the way if they are overrated than rest of doubles don't exist. Better go and lick your wounded ass than post such bullshit

The US should play Sam Querrey and Donald Young tomorrow. Are they both eligible to play?

Weren't you the one that said the Bryans are overrated? And how long have they been #1 now?

The US should play Sam Querrey and Donald Young tomorrow. Are they both eligible to play?no, only the 4 nominated players can play. I imagine James will play, and one of the Bryans instead of Andy.

That was a lot of fun to watch, excellent effort from the Spanish team. They looked like they were really enjoying themsleves out there, and they made it a match to the end. Good for tennis. :)

They are only # 1 because everyone sucks just a little more than them. Look at the doubles draws these days, its made up of singles players trying to get some practice and not caring if they win or not. There are some doubles teams out there, but they arent very good besides a few.

Well done Bryans. The last 2 set was very competitive, shame Verdasco is a bit helpless.

Nope andy will play. I was at the match and they announced that he and james would play tomorrow.Well i mean, yes, because he's on paper supposed to play. But I would be shocked out of my mind if Andy takes the court with his injury and the fact that the match is completely meaningless. Anything's possible, but I would be very surprised. on TV, they left the coverage saying "Singles play featuring James Blake."

I was there, I really feel like the crowd won the match for the Bryans  Just when the match started getting really good people started booing  By far the closest match of the tie.

Closer than I expected...great fight from the chicos!! At least Spain won't have to play qualies in September this year.

Congrats to the USA...I think they deserve to win the DC again...it's been a while.

But I think this shows again why the Bryans are more comfortable on clay in Davis Cup.

Bah... they should let Sam play. Andy should be the chair umpire, with a microphone. Feli can sit on his lap and 'help' him.

Great match there at the end. No one expected this to be the closest match of the tie, but it certainly was.

Yeah i would like to see fish and sam play as well but they announced Andy would play before his post match interview so im assuming he would have said something then(either Patrick or Andy) but they both didn't. I was surprised to see he would still be playing but happy since i will be attending.

Deboogle!.
04-08-2007, 05:35 AM
Sam and Fish cannot play, because they are not on the officially named 4-man squad. I imagine it will be James and one of the twins tomorrow. I will be very surprised if Andy plays, unless his leg magically gets all better (but he does usually play dead rubbers, so if he's feeling okay, he might go for it).

edit: Never mind, Andy will not play tomorrow
http://www.journalnow.com/servlet/Satellite?pagename=WSJ%2FMGArticle%2FWSJ_BasicArti cle&c=MGArticle&cid=1173350629773&path=!sports!tennis!&s=1037645509511

Also, Andy Roddick, who was supposed to play today's first singles match against Tommy Robredo, will sit out, according to Captain Patrick McEnroe.

"I can tell you that Andy's not going to be playing (today) because of his leg," McEnroe said. "I guess we use the word warrior a little too much in sports, but he was struggling this week. And he put it on the line for us and played when he wasn't 100 percent, so that was huge for us. He's not going to play for us (today), for sure."

In the second match today, James Blake will play a yet to be determined opponent.

The most likely scenario is that Bob Bryan, who is 2-0 in singles matches in Davis Cup play, will play Robredo in the first match. In the second match, Blake will play either Verdasco or David Ferrer. Verdasco has played two matches already, and Captain Emilio Sanchez may elect to go with Ferrer, who has yet to play.

McEnroe said that Blake will play.

"James will play, and probably while we're out celebrating (last night), we'll decide who's going to play that other match," McEnroe said.

It was rather intense towards the end. But Bryans prove why they're the best doubles around. They're mentally tough and they don't choke. When they had the mp on their serve, you knew that they wouldn't blow it.

So now you are only making your previous statement more stupid, doubles draws, motivation on doubles etc has nothing to do with Bryans being overrated , how could they be overrated if even you admit that they are the best doubles team because everyone sucks a little more than them it make the the team which sucks the less so they are no.1. You can't be overrated when you are the best team for 4 years and 5th coming, winning all slams etc
Get a clue about doubles
