This has the potential to be a close & high-quality tie.

Argentina has proved again that can compete on fast surfaces away from home, and that victory against Australia on grass was no fluke. With Nalbi back and Cañas & Delpo improving every day it's going to be an impressive team.

Sweden though will be the local team and PimPim may be at a high level. Solid singles players and a dependable doubles team would be tough to beat even away (as proved against Belarus), much more so at home.

Discuss anything relevant to this series here.

Göteborg is a good place and there will be enough to keep you occupied when you go there.

One tip when you go to eat don't go to the Avenue (main street) cause they charge more for the same thing, not too far away, but they justify the prices to pay for their rent.

As for tickets, once they have submitted the venue to the ITF and then get the arrangements done, it won't be too long before they are released.

News about the surface today: according to Swedish media (textTV) it will be indoor hardcourt.

I like Sweden. This is very nice country and people are very nice. But actually Sweden has not very good players.

You seem to set very high standards for "good". Söderling is ranked 25 and he has his best results indoors. PimPim Johansson (hopefully not injured when the tie is due) is a very good indoor player too, one of the five best servers on the tour and was inside top 10 before getting injured for a while, still took out Nadal in Stockholm last year. And there is a doubles player named Björkman - I guess you know about him. Tomas Johansson is dodgy after his eye injury but still with ability on fast surfaces.

Argentina is the favourite but not by much. Nalby isn't in his best shape, Canas still on the way back, JMDP young.

Thanks for the news, oz_boz :) Do you know when the tickets will be released? I would be interested to go to this tie, but still have to sort out some things before it´s 100% sure!

mtw, Argentina does not have that good players at the moment either. I like the Argentine players a lot as well, but you cannot say that Sweden doesn´t have any good players, this is just not true. Of course they don´t have that many good players as in the past, and maybe the Swedish players are not that consistant as in the past, but both Pim Pim and Robin are normally playing on a high level.

Argentina team should be: Nalbandian, Acasuso, Cañas, Del Potro?.
Sweden: T.Johansson, Soderling, Bjorkman, Aspelin?

I guess that for Argentina Calleri has good chances of playing instead of Acasuso or Del Potro, depending on his performance at Miami and Indian Wells, and depending on Chucho's performance (very poor until now, except the DC Tie).
And I guess PimPim is not going to play the tie...

And concerning ticnet, I am wondering where you can order these 3-day-pass tickets? Because on ticnet there are only tickets available for every single day and the total amount would be much more than the 900skr which was written on tennis.se.

The Argentine team will probably be Nalbandian, Acasuso, Cañas and Del Potro.

Nalbandian will surely play two singles and has always played the doubles, I would be surprised if he doesn't this time.

The second singles player and David's doubles partner are yet to be known.

My guess, Cañas for the singles and Chucho for the doubles. But could be all the way around.

Their level of play in Miami and during the practice before the tie will be decisive.

Mancini has confirmed the team: Nalbandian, Cañas, Del Potro and Prieto.

Acasuso isn't part of the team because he doesn't feel confidence in this kind of surface.

He just did the same thing, that Gaudio did last year against Croatia.

Mancini has confirmed the team: Nalbandian, Cañas, Del Potro and Prieto.

Acasuso isn't part of the team because he doesn't feel confidence in this kind of surface.

He just did the same thing, that Gaudio did last year against Croatia.

That's only one of the reasons. The most stronger reason? he wants to have a good preparation for the clay season  His team blamed the DC for the drop in the ranking. Besides he was not going to be titular, so Acasuso dropped the convocation.
Honestly, I'd agree with Bonadeo (an argie journalist) if two years ago someone told Acasuso he was going to be in a DC final, playing or just being there as sparring he'd have say yes.. There are worst cases with way more points to defend like Nalbandian (also going through a bad period with his tennis) or players needing rest like Cañas.

On the other side, maybe is not that bad : Del Potro had to play because Chucho couldn't get over losing the doubles, he was mentally down. The same happened in Bs As when he aduced a fake injury because he lost the first match and lost the first set of the next match and left the tournament. Chucho obviously can't recover quickly from a bad result and that's basic for DC. So for this tie, maybe is the best. Still he was a good single 2 for certain maches ( one single and maybe a partner of Nalbo at the doubles) but essencially without having the pressure of playing three points and having to get over quicly from a bad match...
Time would tell what happens with this. Mancini doesn't like at all people letting aside the DC for their careers (except they do it since the beggining like Chela) or saying that they'll play and after that aducing injuries to not do it. That was what caused the bad relationship between Gaudio and Mancini. Besides playing horrible, if he gets better, I doubt he would be called to play again (except if for some miracle he comes back and wins a Slam)

Crossing fingers for this tie. Crossing fingers for Nalbandian to show up, if not we're screw.

And about the names: Pietro? He did horrible in the last tie. And I don't mean a bad day playing (anyone can have one of those like Nalbo and Calleri in Russia) but totally wrong tactical ideas...

Nalbandian to return to Argentine squad

According to reports, world No. 11 David Nalbandian will return to Argentina’s Davis Cup squad for its quarterfinal tie in Sweden on 6-8 April.

Nalbandian chose to miss Argentina’s 4-1 victory over Austria in the first round, having played a starring role in Argentina’s 2006 campaign, in which he won eight out of ten rubbers, including both his singles matches in the final, which his team narrowly lost to Russia in Moscow.

While nations do not have to officially nominate their four-man teams to the ITF until Tuesday March 27th, Argentine captain Alberto Mancini announced that Guillermo Canas, Juan del Potro and Sebastian Prieto would also line-up for the tie. Jose Acasuso who played in the first round tie reportedly asked not to be considered for the tie in Sweden due to a lack of recent form.

Im a cheering Swede that also have Nalbandian as a favourite and Ive been thinking about the upcoming Davis Cup tie (which I will attend) and the probable matchups.

Sweden I guess will play Söderling on the first singles and Tojo on the second. Probably Aspelin/Bjorkman then in the doubles (kinda disagree on that on because I think aspelin is too weak..).

Argentina on the other hand, have a much more debatable lineup, especially now when Del Potro seems to be on fire. My guess is that Nalbandian and Canas still will play the singles and Prieto (or possibly Canas..) will join Nalby for the doubles.

What do you guys think? Del Potro deserves a shot?

Anyway, I'll try to cheer loudly for Sweden and surpress my feelings for tennis next best country ;)

Yep, I'll be watching it on tv because it's to far away for me =/ but i also think that they'll use Canas and Nalby, and if we get into the third day i really hope that wilander will use thomas and not björkman in the last tie if's a deciding game..
it would be really good if we could win this and Joakim Johansson would come back, then we have two really strong singel players for the semis ^^

I think that Cañas should rest on Friday and play doubles and the 5th Rubber. He played 10 matches during last 2 weeks and now he has to flight from Miami to Gothemburg and start adapting to a new surface...

I think Nalbandian and Del Potro should play on Friday, Nalbandian/Cañas for Saturday and Sunday.

Guillermo has a better serve, volley and returning than Prieto.

Argentinean Captain, "Luli" Mancini said today that the court is VERY FAST and very hard to return the service. "Much faster than Linz" he said. Also Nalbandian said that "if the 1st serve is in, it won't comeback" after 4 consecutive winners against Del Potro.

Soderling said that the surface is "unplayable".

It seems it will be a hard tie... :S I'm not so confident this time. But would be nice to win and receive USA or Spain in Semi Finals :)

Del Potro - "This one is a bit faster. The one in Belarus was fast, but not this much. Here, the ball bounces lower and the serve is very difficult to return".

Nalbandian - "This is the faster surface I ever played on. The one in Russia wasn't very fast. In Croatia and Slovakia the courts were fast, but not as fast as this one". (Nalbandian didn't play in Minsk)

Soderling - "It doesn't matter if Cañas takes something, he won't even see the ball here." :retard:

Mancini - "It is fast, yes, but it is not Belarus."

Wilander - "We played very well in Belarus, so we tried to make it very similar to the one in Minsk. It is a court that goes very well with our players."

Nalbandian and Cañas can play on fast courts. If they are both fit, they can do it. Del Potro needs more experience, He has a very good serve when it is on.

Vamos Argentina!!! :wavey:

On a side note: There won't be Hawkeye... :( Argentina asked for it, but it won't be there.

Thanks for the quotes :hatoff: Söderling :o

Is it really so good for Sweden that all first serves are unreturnable? That may actually even the field between good first-servers and mediocre first-servers like David. And when the first serves are not in the higher returning skills of the Argentinians may make the difference.

Thomas Johansson - "The court is faster than the one in Minsk, but maybe not because of the carpet itself, but because of the balls (Wilson US Open). That, I think, is what makes the difference. The ideal combination has been found."

Journalists are saying that its probable that Nalbandian and Del Potro will play on Friday.

Cañas isn't completely recovered from his injury in his left leg. Still has some pains, so maybe Mancini will make him rest, so he can play the doubles or singles rubber on Sunday.

They also said that Del Potro Nalbandian as a doubles couple, worked very well in practice sessions... we will see.

Cañas said that after some studies, the doctor told him the injury is not serious, he was expecting to feel some pain while practicing, that this didn't surprise him, that the pain is less than last Sunday (in Miami final), and that he is optimistic and he will be ready and available for the debut.

What will Mancini decide?

Los Protagonistas

David Nalbandian
