Interesting.

So is/are Dido, Sade, Sara McLaughlin, lots of cuties...this whats-her-name: Nora Jones...

Guess I'll have to really commit to raising my income to feed my music curiosity. Thank you for the head's up. Here's a blast from the past (with no particular cue to Amy) ...Harry Nilsson, singing "spaceman."

So many links to 60's soul music, blues and other genres from decades ago. Interesting how old styles are resynthesized and released as something new. (I'm not criticizing this, actually, just remarking on how much of what seems new can be traced to the past).

Thanks but all credit should really go to the poster named Richard-from-Cal. He made me realize that I was being a bit ageist with some of my music choices.

Oh, and I also bought a Stevie Wonder 2-CD compilation. Without him where would my Justin be?

AMY WINEHOUSE VOWS TO CLEAN UP

Fun time may be over for trainwreck-lovers like myself: Amy Winehouse declared she intends to stop drinking. The singer claimed her mother’s boyfriend told her the family believes she may have a drinking problem. Because she doesn’t want to embarrass them any more than she already has, Amy promised to stop partying.

Winehouse, 23, says, “My boyfriend’s mum keeps telling him I have a drink problem. She said she read it in the newspaper and he’s got to tell me to stop drinking.

“It’s embarrassing. People at work are saying to her that her ‘daughter-in-law’ is an alcoholic.

“I don’t really have a problem with alcohol - I have a problem with me, which probably comes out when I drink.”

Instead of wild nights out partying, the Rehab star now plans to stay at home with her man.

She adds, “I’m over that stuff. I don’t want to get so out of my pram I can’t remember it the next day.

“I’d rather be at home with my fella, cooking.”

Amy Winehouse and fiance Blake Fielder-Civil tied the knot this morning in a low key ceremony at the Marriage License Bureau in downtown Miami this morning.

The 23-year-old ‘Rehab’ singer had denied rumors that her Blake were in Miami to get married, telling photographers she was just there to “chill out.”

Congrats to Amy and Blake!!!

I thought Amy had a drug problem and that's why she was going to go to rehab. But it's her drinking instead. She seems to have some issues. But Amy is fortunate to have the unique soulful voice she does. :) :singer: It will be interesting to see how her career develops from this point on and if she can stay out of trouble.

She treats her fans like shit. She cancels concerts then turns up at the local boozer an hour later.

She was on brit show Never Mind The Buzzcocks and was arguing like a nuisance with everybody. She made charming comedian Bill Bailey so cross he wouldn't even look at her. And she gobbed on the floor out of sheer idleness.

In her defence, Wino has made it pretty clear that she never signed on for being a "star" and preferred her career when it was more low key.

That said, booking a gig and not showing up is pretty irresponsible.

Amy Winehouse left fans fuming and heading for the door when they claim she spit on them at a performance on Tuesday night. Witnesses say that she was crying onstage, hitting herself over the head with her mic and then finished it off by spitting at the crowd.

A witness said, "The gig became absolutely awful. Members of her entourage were coming on to the stage, obviously worried she couldn't go on, and she would just shout "fuck off" at them. Everyone in the crowd just felt sorry for her."

Her spokesbitch said, "Amy was annoyed with herself. She is a bit ring rusty after not having played for a while and was upset after making a few mistakes in the set."

Spitting at the audience? They should've closed down the venue right away for fumigation. It looks like Amy's finishing up her career before she's even got a chance to start it. Oh well! NEXT! There's another grateful bitch waiting in the wings. Trust.

REJOICE!!!
Amy Winehouse showed up! The Rehab singer made her scheduled appearance at the Virgin Festival in Baltimore on Saturday.

It seems more likely than not that she will make it to Chicago for her Sunday show at Lollapalooza.

Yay!

PerezHilton.com reader Tyler was at Wino’s appearance at the V Festival.

This is what he has to share with you, Perezcious readers:

“She arrived about 5 minutes late and the crowed got restless, but everything was smooth sailing when she stepped up to the mic. The best part was she seemed sober! No slurring, drinking (except a soda can which probably had a little something inside) or obnoxious behavior! She was able to pull her mic out of the wiring and reassemble it in seconds. It was a great performance and her husband was on stage the entire time filming her. It was adorable the way they’d look at each other when she would dedicate a song to him.”

BOYCOTT WINO
Amy Wino's in-laws have asked her fans to boycott her music until she cleans up. Her father-in-law said, "Perhaps it is time to stop buying records. It's a possibility, to send that message."

Who buys records anymore? Hello....it's called illegal downloading. Wino isn't get any crack money from me!

Amy's father Mitch basically thinks her in-laws could do a lot more to help her and that boycotting her music isn't going to help. Duh, Mitch has his eye on a new lawnmower and if those records don't sell, he don't mow!

Mitch said, "We have had medical advice, but the facts are very, very simple - the day after they came out of the facility we had a meeting with the GPs, specialists in dependency issues and eating disorders."

"Giles and Georgette were due to come to that meeting but they chose to go fro a drink in the pub with Amy and Blake. We have two families pulling in different directions. We want our children to be safe, but we have different definitions of how we can do that."

Battle of the in-laws on the next Maury! If only. Her parents should just sneak into her room in the middle of the night and take a machete to that possum's nest living on her head. I bet you that's the root of all her evils!

The food and drug administration need to get themselves a search warrant on that mess, because I bet you anything there's some effed shit up in there.

RIGHT AS RAIN
Amy Wino and her husband are currently recovering from their knock-down-drag-out-crack-fight last week. They are "recovering" in St. Lucia. Amy's father has been constantly speaking to the press as have Amy's in-laws. Mitch Wino who said that her drug addiction makes him want to die. texted his daughter the other day, "I texted her first to see that she was OK. And she texted me back saying, 'I'm right as rain, love you dad'."

Right as rain. ACID rain!

Wino has also cancelled her entire U.S. tour as well as her appearance at the MTV VMA's next month.

Her label said, "In a continued effort to support Amy Winehouse's well being, in addition to the postponement of her U.S. tour, all other U.S. appearances have been canceled."

So...we've sent her to St. Lucia! Congratulations for being a certified crackhead! You're going on vacay! She should just cancel her entire 2007 and 2008 and sit in a tank.

BLOOD BATH

http://www.dlisted.com/files/87858446.jpg

The staff at Jade Mountain Resort in St. Lucia claim that Amy Wino left a bloody mess in her $1,400 a night hotel suite and asked them to clean up. The Mirror reports that housekeepers were apparently horrified when they walked in to find the bathroom covered in blood and vomit.

A source said, "There was blood and vomit all over the bathroom, it was just terrible. It looked like she'd been sick many times. There was blood mixed up in the vomit.

"It was sickening. They were horrified by the state of the room which looked like a bomb had hit it. The hotel management offered to send for a doctor but Amy declined. She said she'd be fine. Everyone was concerned because she looked so frail."

23-year-old Wino also got sick on a sofa in the resort's restaurant. They had to close down the joint, because the stench was so awful.

Yum. Just what I needed to imagine while sipping my morning latte. Blood Vomit should be the next Jelly Belly flavor.

Couldn't the blood vomit be a sign that she's detoxing? Yeah, probably not. The mixture of heroin, battery acid and daiquiris probably wasn't sitting well in her stomach.

I love her album. At first "Rehab" and the second single went on my nerves, oh well they still do, but after hearing "Tears Dry On Their Own" i got the album and did not regret it.
I don't like the fact that she's a crazy ass heroin addict but a lot of respectable musician were so you can't knock her down solely because of that. Her vocals are strong, and whoever produced her album did a great job, so you can not like the music she does but you can't deny her talent...which will be wasted if she continues her ways.

I'm not saying that. I know that she does her own writing and her own singing. I have no idea if she does her own arranging but I don't see that it matters because it's probably a collaboration -- as it should be -- between herself and her musicians. I personally don't find the music to b horrible but I think that Amy's strength is as a lyricist. I have seen clips of her singing a cappella and she sounds terrific IMHO.

Sarah Jessica Parker named world's unsexiest woman [WINO 2nd Unsexiest  ]

October 25, 2007 - 10:28AM

Sex And The City actress Sarah Jessica Parker has been named unsexist woman of the year.

Charlize Theron, Jessica Alba and Halle Berry are regularly named the world's sexiest women. But who are the unsexiest women alive? A men's magazine decided to find out.

The list, published in the latest edition of Maxim Magazine, named Sex and the City star Sarah Jessica Parker as the No. 1 Unsexiest Woman Alive.

The magazine said Parker was the "least sexy woman in a group of very unsexy women" that ironically starred in a show with the word "sex" in the title.

Troubled soul singer Amy Winehouse was voted No. 2 because of her "hemorrhaging translucent skin, rat's nest mane and lashes that look more like surgically attached bats".

The mag listed Grey's Anatomy Sandra Oh at No. 3 for her "cold bedside manner and boyish figure".

Pop star Madonna took out the No. 4 spot for her "self-righteous bellyaching and rapid postnuptial deterioration".

"Combine a Paris Hilton-like pet accessorising fetish only for dirt-poor foreign babies with a mug that looks Euro-sealed to her skull, and you've got Willem Dafoe with hot flashes," Maxim Magazine said.

Britney Spears came in at No. 5 for "losing the ability to perform".

The mag also said two children, two ex-husbands and a slight weight gain also helped Britney nab the No. 5 spot.

Maxim Magazine's list of the world's unsexiest women:

1. Sarah Jessica Parker
2. Amy Winehouse
3. Sandra Oh
4. Madonna
5. Britney Spears

There's a website that's taking bets on which celebrity will be die first. First place keeps switching between Amy, Unfitney, and Pete Doperty.

Amy Winehouse Runs Around, Shirtless and Crazy

Amy Winehouse has been staying at a friend's house in East London and these pictures were taken just outside of the house early Sunday morning. Wandering around in front of the place for a few minutes, while paparazzi snapped these pictures of a half-way dressed, clearly distraught Amy, she then returned back inside the house. A witness said that she appeared to be looking up and down the street, as if she were expecting a visitor, but eventually, she simply went back inside. ""She looked upset and agitated but there was no obvious reason for her to have come outside. It was weird," the source revealed. This certainly isn't boding well in regards to her resolution to get clean over the holidays. I'm thinking that Amy threw on a bra at the last minute, because it looks as if her rosary is all wrapped up in it. Yikes.

I have no idea what she was ''singing'', but the composers of ''A Chorus Line'' should sue. The music was stolen right out of that show. "ONE" I think was the song. I didn't have the patience to wait to the end of the video. I hope they all booed this absolute zero talent.

its hard to recognise her when she removed her heavy eye make up :p

i almost never listen the "new" western music now. I just heard a few lines of Amy's song "you know i am no good"? on tv, and i find her voice quite special as well as her image, the bee nest hairstyle and her heavy eye make up, she is smart to create such a speical image ;)

Ughhh she is a god awful person

minging pig, her voice is awful (Anastacia voice - spelt that wrong i know) her music is awful and these 'antics' in her private life... well .... that is the modern day thing isnt it? be a freaking loony to get the headlines ala Britnay, Lohan, Hilton

why cant these singers just get a note out? why do they strangle every word to death in a song like she does in 'Valerie' .. i blame Whitney and Christina Aguilera for this shit.

i know im a 20-something dinosaur in this world ... but the music and fame industry is so beyond pathetic its unreal... nothing is like the good old days of the 80's = that was talent and likeable people.

nowadays this so called talent are just manufactured freak shows competing to see who can have the more trashy life since their music is crap , on both sides of the pond as well, and this pile of dung Winehouse is the leader of the pack on this side.

I disagree with you both. I think that Amy is amazingly talented. Unfortunately she is also a codependent drug addict. Bad combination.

I'd rather hear fingernails down a chalk board than her voice one more time in my life, sadly in this modern day 'n age it seems she is a big thing - so i hear her songs everywhere

and its driving me mad, her voice is horrible ... just kills every word to death - but its the era of crap manufactured pop idol/x-factor reality show rubbish where they all sound like that

just have to sit it out and wait for the death of it.

Unfortunately she is also a codependent drug addict. Bad combination.Dont make me laugh with these 'drug addict' stars and their problems, its all about headlines... all about tabloid and magazine space.. who is 'worse' than the next wild child - that is all they care about.

controversial attention = keeps ppl interested in the fake soap opera lifestyle = sells the records.

Real stars in the past who had bad problems are the ones that keep it out of the media spotlight - they are helped or their pride doesnt want the world to see them suffer or even just to keep up a false image, yet we hear this freakin crap every day about Winhouse, Spears, Lohan and the like who conviently seem to have all thier problems in public and somewhere near a camera...

think about it.

the old dinosaur mimi thinks these pop stars set a very bad example for young people, they may think taking drugs is cool and fashionable:scared:

but i find her voice ok, just that she does not look a bit like British girl with her make up on, at first i thought she was black :p

 :haha:  Well, I'm obviously not the only one who thinks she's talented. Amy Winehouse scored 6 Grammy nominations today including Best New Artist, Record of the Year, Album of the Year and Song of the Year. Kanye West topped with 8 nominations including Album of the Year.

Here's a few of the categories:

Record of the Year
Irreplaceable - Beyonce
The Pretender - Foo Fighters
Umbrella - Rihanna
What Goes Around...Comes Around - Justin Timberlake
Rehab - Amy Winehouse

Album of the Year
Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace - Foo Fighters
These Days - Vince Gill
River: The Joni Letters - Herbie Hancock
Graduation - Kanye West
Back to Black - Amy Winehouse

Song of the Year
Before He Cheats - Carrie Underwood
Hey There Delilah - Plain White-T's
Like A Star - Corrine Bailey Rae

Irreplaceable by Beyonce is one of the WORST songs I have ever heard, and her vocal performance in that song is nearly criminal. I cannot believe that got nominated. Then again, 'Afternoon Delight' won a grammy once, so I hear tell...

Record of the Year is going to Rihanna no doubt. That song was huge. ROTY is usually based on the most popular song of the year, not the best vocals or best lyrics. That's Song of the Year. I have a thread on the Grammy nods. I think Amy Winhouse wins for Best New Artist, but that's it.

I disagree but I do think that "Umbrella" should get Song of the Year.

I can't stand Irreplaceable either -- can't stand most things about Beyonce. But I love the duet she sings with Justin Timberlake. She nails that song.

Ew, 'Umbrella', the song that creeps into your head and never leaves. :help:

I do like Amy Winehouse's songs, but not her. I can't believe people actually pay money to go to one of her 'concerts' to see a junkie on stage who can't even remember her own lyrics. And the people who idolize her are plain stupid. That woman is gonna end with an overdose in the not too distant future.

I discovered her looking for some "Just Friends" Jazz Standard versions.

I like her voice and some of her songs (specially those that are kinda reggae or Ska) but overall, I didn't like it.

Sorry, but I can't stand her. The woman has a horrible singing voice, even when she's clean (and that only happens on maybe 2 or 3 days per year). The fact that she's considered a star is just more proof that the music industry went down the crapper. I still remember those days when even 1 hit wonders used to have decent voices. When I watch award shows nowadays, my ears start to bleed because many famous singers can't even hit a note. It's just horrible. Still, I hope that Amy gets herself together. Whitney got rid of the drugs and her disgusting husband, Tina got rid of her husband so I hope that Amy can overcome her problems too.

I also wouldn't take award shows as proof that someone is talented. Award shows are all about buzz and publicity, not really about quality.

It's difficult for me to ascertain whether Ms Winehouse herself is "brilliant" or if her producers are. Her phrasing is excellent, for sure, but I think the band is better than she is.

Also understand that because I live in the US, I haven't been deluged with her as you Brits have.

I love Amy's music, but I fear she's already going the route of Gia Carrangi. She may be making a lot of money, but it's probably just going towards feeding her addiction.
