kinda early but I'm TOOOOOO excited to be able to resist the temptation of posting something about my favorite grand slam where Juanqui is absolutely the crowned king!!!!

I'm soooooooooo excited too! I can't wait to watch it....

The only thing is, that I'm worried that Juanqui won't be able to play RG.....

COME ON FERRERO!!!!!!!!!

With JC crashing out at Monte Carlo and then pulling out of Roma and Hamburg, I am very worried that he may not be able to defend his RG title. Moya...Coria...a few dangerous floaters around....Juanqui will have his work cut out for him.

Right now, Juanqui needs confidence :D. Maybe he'll defend his title after all! It's FERRERO remember?! lol :D.

He needs more than confident, he needs to be healthy first. He has a cast on his right wrist and has trouble breathing due to the rib injury. If he heals in time for French Open, he still has no time left for training. By the time French Open begins, counting back to Monte Carlo he would have missed action for 5 weeks.

I'm just trying to be realistic, but to expect him to defend the title is too much. He'll be lucky to just survive a few rounds.

Get well soon, poor guy.

Yeah, I know you're right, he might be not recovered yet then... Just don't wanna think about that option....
But I disagree that he'll be lucky if he survived a few rounds. RG is very important to him, so I think he'll only play if he's completely recovered... Besides, Ferrero is a clay specialist (at least a lot of people say so). :p So I think we have to be more confident! :) :) So does Juanqui...

There is an article about him that talks about his condition.

"I have a year with a lot of physical problems, but I am recovering enough from the last one and hope to train in the coming week to be enough for Roland Garros".

"All the season I am racing against the clock, because when it seems that whenever I am to a point to get over a problem, another new one comes up. I am use to it, players always play with some type of pain. I hope to get to Paris completely well but if not I'll just have to deal with it". He had also ask the organizer in Roland Garros to let him play a day later so he has a day more to get well and ready, which is tuesday instead of monday.

"the wrist problem is better than the ribs problem which is more painful. But they have said to me that I must endure the pain and continue training ", when explained on the state of his ailments.

Good that he's upbeat. Now, let's hope for a good draw for him to get by the first few rounds. And for the Roland Garros organizers, they better let him play on tuesday. Is there some kind of tradition for when the defending champion play? I don't remember which one slam has the defending champion play the first match of the tournament.

Thanks lalaland for posting this article!

Wimbledon tradition is that the current defending champ plays first day...not sure bout RG though...I hope too that the organisers will allow him to play on Tues.

lalaland
05-21-2004, 07:23 PM
He has all the intention to play unless he is really not up to it physically, we will have to wait until before his opening match to find out if he is in or out. I wish RG will grant him his wish to play on tuesday, he hasn't heard from RG yet.

lalaland
05-21-2004, 07:37 PM
Some report said he will leave tomorrow, anyhow, he's going to Paris for sure before he will decide on participation. Report also said his ribs suffered small fissure, most painful when he serves.

JeLuliA88
05-22-2004, 05:37 AM
If he doesn't play RG, then he pretty much wasted the whole entire clay season... what a string of bad luck. And if he does play, then he's up against Haas, not an easy opponent... and with the injury and everything, i have serious doubts whether he can beat him.

Sharon
05-23-2004, 02:37 PM
i read in a article this morning that there is a 60% chance of him not playing RG cuz of a rib injury... he wont decide until tomorrow tho

plum_juice10
05-23-2004, 05:58 PM
I hope he does play...but even if he does I dont think he will be able to win the tournament neway from lack of match practice. But lets all pray that he will be able to play and will be healthy for the next two weeks. C'mon JC!

Having lost the first set i thought he wasn't in form to defend his title and might have gone out on the first round. But he hang in there, found his rhythm. He better play better on his next round! Vamos, Juanquito!!!!!

Stupid guy...always had to hit forehands...thats where most if not all his winners came from...I feel real sad for Juanqui at the moment and I hope he comes back and plays good for the grass season. But this is really upsetting since hes had such a gd record at RG...wait for the grass and hard courts seasons to come...this guy wont last a chance...

I hope Juanqui will return to top form soon!! I'm really sad he lost.. but I think mostly it was because of his injuries..I read somewhere that he was suffering from cramps during the match?? If he was 100% fit, it would have been a different story.... I feel like crying when I think of it!!

Don't worry girls, next year he won't be having many points to defend at RG. Let's look at this way.
