Okay, this has almost nothin to do with andy.. but i really need your help..

well i have to give an oral exam on tuesday, and i've decided to make this oral about Andy. I've already done it, but i just want u guys to tell me if it's fine, or if it has any ANY spellin mistakes or grammar or whatever. Also i'd like if u have anything to add to it.. such as info about him or words that i missed or even to correct any info that's wrong.
And the last favour, if anyone can tell me how to end the oral.. cuz nuthin comes up to my mind! please i seriously need your help!

Umm.. before i forget.. here's the oral lol

Andrew Stephen Roddick, more known as Andy Roddick, was born the 30th of August of 1982 in Omaha, Nebraska, USA. His family’s composed by his mother, Blanche, his father Jerry and his two older brothers, Lawrence and John. He started playing tennis at the age of 7, because one of his brothers, John, was also into tennis. When Andy was 11 the family moved to Florida so John could get a better coaching for his tennis career. Anyway, he ended up going to University of Georgia and, all of the sudden Andy’s tennis career took off. By the age of 16 he was practically winning every junior tournament he entered. In 2000 Andy turned pro at the age of 17. Just 18 months later, he had already won two tournaments and was one of the top 50 ranked players. As of 2003, he had won five titles and was ranked among the top five tennis players in the world. The same year, andy reached the semi-finals of both, Wimbledon and the Australian Open and in September, Roddick won the Us Open. It was his first Grand Slam title. In october he got to play the Masters Cup in which only the top 8 players can play . There, at the age of 21, he became the n° 1 tennis player in the world after Juan Carlos Ferrero, the current #1 tennis player by that time, lost his 3 matches. He lost the #1 spot after Roger Federer won the 2004 Aussie Open. Currently, he’s the #2 tennis player in the world.
By the moment, Andy has achieved 13 titles including 3 master series (one of them from the 2004 Nasdaq-100 by beating the well known Argentinean, Guillermo Coria) and the already mentioned, Grand Slam. This year, apart from the master series title, he got another one in San Jose. He got it by beating his friend and compatriot Mardy Fish.
His best shot is definetely his serve. Just three days ago, on Sunday at the Davis Cup against Sweden, Andy broke his own speed serve record, which was of 150mph (241kmh) by hitting a 152mph serve (243kmh).
Now, talking about his personal life, he’s recently broke up with his girlfriend, 19-year-old the singer and actrees Mandy Moore. They both met in Toronto, Canada while Mandy was filming the movie “how to deal” and andy was playing a tournament. As Moore’s mom is a tennis fan, she went to one of Andy’s matches (by mandy’s request) and invited him to visit the set and meet Mandy. They both were best friends for a long time when, in one of their dates, Andy finally made his move and kissed her. They have been dating since then but now, as I said before, they’ve broken up. Mandy Moore said it was because andy doesn’t like Los Angeles very much and he was tired of the “hollywood stuff”. On the other hand, Andy Roddick has said the split happened because the long distance relationshop was starting to take his concentration off his tennis game.

I'd really apreciate if u help me with this!

Thanks :)

Tennis related correction:

"...even after a grand slam, 3 tennis master series titles, and 9 other atp titles..."

Andy won 9 other titles, not 8. And also, it'd be better to include "other"...since grand slams and master series are also considered ATP titles.

well to be reeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaalllllllllllllllllyyyy yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy correct, they are MAJORS, not grand slams. ;)
well, to be really really very correct, I think, Carito should also write "his family is composed" instead of "his family's composed"... all my teachers always told me that's colloquial language if you say that and they didn't like apostrophes after nouns, persons or names unless it indicates a possession such as "the boy's ball" or "Roddick's racket" etc.

MisterQ
04-12-2004, 10:24 PM
yes, I corrected Carito on that apostophe matter but she was defiant! a real rebel, that Carito! ;)

I supposed if it's an oral presentation you could get away with the apostrophe more easily than on a written paper.

Neely
04-12-2004, 10:32 PM
lol, a real rebel...

MisterQ, ah I'm really glad you noticed this as well... hell, even a native speaker agrees with me on that case :D

sure, spoken there is almost no difference whether you say "family's" or "family is"... I'm also confident that will be okay for Carito's teacher(s)

star
04-12-2004, 11:23 PM
I didn't bother to correct those apostrophes because she said it was an oral presentation. :)

I did start out with some commas etc. but she may have ignored that. ;)

BUT MOST IMPORTANTLY!!!!

Carito's English is REALLY good. Honest, I've seen written English from 13 year old Americans that is worse. Carito is AWESOME! :)
