Don't believe the hype (apparently  )

Kamikaze continues ticking off the boxes on the way to the top of the game, back to back Masters wins for the first time and first win over a top 20 player. :)

Was Marcos injured or JMDP crushed him in the last set? Anyone was watching this?

Appalling 3rd set from Baghdatis. He has officially gone off the rails here. Good grief- a bagel? Wow...just wow. :help:

Unexpected, but not a big surprise. The bagel in the 3rd - now that is something! Congrats for the boy and GL in the next round

WTF?

A Bagel?? Marcos?

That's two of my favorites out, luckily, I don't think Roger is physically capable of another first round exit!

Waauuu ... This was a surprise ... 6-0 in the last set???? unbeliveble

A bagel!!! What happened there?

Marcos missed on many bp opportunities 7/9 and didn't save any bps himself. :smash:

Marcos! Wow, I know JMDP is talented, but Marcos should have won this match. Unfortunately, a bagel isn't going to help his confidence much.

Congrats del Potro!

A bagel, Marcos? :help:

Congrats to JMDP for his big win.

I would like to see this match for myself. First, to get a good look at Del Potro, and also to see for myself how Marcos ended up with a bagel. :(

amazing JMDP!!!!!

Marcos :help: last year he only did it well in the big ones (AO and Wimbledon), this year only plays well in the MM tournaments and bad in the GS and AMS...

Oh he'll be world no 1 in no time then

Ever seen him play?

Top 10 is a certainty, top 5 quite possibly. No1? Not beyond him, but that's a long way off for now. Right now, it's all about progression. Moving up the ranks, achieving certain goals and targets and improving bit by bit.

That's what he's doing.

But as I suspect, you've probably never seen him play, so you wouldn't know any of this. :) :wavey:

Lose the kgs Marcos.

croat123
03-24-2007, 05:44 AM
marcos needs to lose about 10 kgs. he was so slow today and, except for the end of the second set, all of his shots were landing so short

03-24-2007, 05:52 AM
Haha Baggy is so out of form that I expect him to make another Slam semi, probably at Roland Garros this year. Ugh, if only he could pull it together for the smaller events.

nkhera1
03-24-2007, 06:04 AM
Maybe if Baghdatis wasn't so out of shape he could have put up a better effort in the 3rd. Semis at RG seem out of the question to me.

This is JMDP's second bagel at atp level and as already mentioned first win over a top 20 player. Though Baggy won't be top 20 much longer :help:

WTF is goin on with Marcos?

stebs
03-24-2007, 12:26 PM
Marcos has been playing badly for so long. :( He really needs to pull it together. For me he is the best out of all the young guns, he has the all round game which none of them can match but his results aren't coming close to showing that.

gusman890
03-24-2007, 12:31 PM
he won a title not too long ago.

I totally i agree is he is playing like shit, thats a gimmie. But hes year isnt full of 1st round exits all the time, although, I believe besides the title he won, the rest of the tournaments have been all 1r.

EDIT: Ok i lie.

He made in the final in Marseille before having two back 2 back losses in TMS play. Ok, sure thats horrible, but im sure he can come back....after the clay season.

I´ve seen him playing a lot of times and although he´s already a good player and he will be very good soon enough, nº1 in the rankings is way beyond him if you ask me

I felt JMDP will win but didn't expect him to hand Baghdatis a bagel. Poor Marcos he is going through rough times nd deserves our sympathy, However, as an ardent fan of Argentine tennis, I am very happy for DEl Potro, he augers well for Argentina. Congratulations Juan Martin :hatoff:

You may well be right, I never claimed he'd be no.1. But certainly he'll be a top player in years to come. :)

An excellent result for del Potro but Marcos should be winning this match:(

RonE
03-24-2007, 08:37 PM
Nicely done :yeah:

Will be interesting to see how his match with Youxhny develops- probably a tight three setter that could go either way.

Also I think given that JMDP is very tall, has a good two fisted backhand- he might give Nadal a pretty good run for his money too should he get past Youzhny.

Too bad for Marcos. What a way to loose...6-0 in the third set!!! Can someone explain what happens to Bags? He has talent but sometimes he forgets that he is playing to win. Well it takes also mind over matter to win games and he sometimes forgets that.I wish he would learn.

More proof Marcos Baghdatis needs to work on his fitness.

I was front row for this match. Needless to say I was rooting for Baghdatis (and expected him to win) as I had barely ever heard of future slam champion JMDP at the time.

Was this specific match the awakening to Del Potro for anyone else?

fast_clay
09-17-2009, 01:14 AM
well looks like del potro got unhappy in that final set...

Johnny Ice
09-17-2009, 01:23 AM
it was more of Baghdatis being terrible

but yes, Del Potro, showing signs of future greatness, really pushed him around
