Guga didn't even try tonight

His serve won him a few games, he won very few rallies. sluiter just played it safe and waited for the inevitable error. towards the end of the match, guga was just flailing at returns. he really didn't care about losing :(

I personally wish Guga would retire. I don't like seeing former champions struggling, to this degree, to keep playing.

I hope he makes a decision soon.

I won't call for his retirement until after RG, even if it's terrible to watch one of the game's best-loved players struggle this much. When he does retire, I hope he plays exhibitions and charity events. He could still do so much for the sport.

Good job by Sluiter! On the way back to the top 100..Wonder what he can do vs Hewitt....

And did Kuerten always have such a good serve?
Don't remember him hitting as many aces in the past? And he actually seemed to have the record for most aces in matches etc...

He is a laughing stock. He needs to retire, something he should have done years ago.

Guga will retire after Roland Garros, I'm sure.........

Don't count out Sluiter. On his day he can still beat a lot of people, especially when his serve is working like last night.

I think he will also beat Hewitt.

He has lost to Boris Pashanski, Oscar Hernandez, Albert Montanes, Gorka Fraile, Flavio Saretta, Jan Hernych, Andreas Seppi and now Raemon Sluiter. If that ain't enough reason for him retiring, I don't know what is.

Tournaments should stopping wasting wildcards on this washed up clown.

I wonder why he doesn't go and play challengers first. He had a long break and this would help him to find the rhythm again. Many players who were making comeback played challengers before they jumped on the main tour, i. e. Fish, Canas, even Blake..

I love Guga, so I'm really sad. He said he wanted to play again in Roland (I saw him play there and his 3 titles were awesome) so I guess he will retire after the FO. Respect Guga:worship:

His serve was always a very underrated weapon, and allowed him to have good results on surfaces other than clay.

He actually did play challengers, but the results weren't the best. :tape: It's like, if you have to be run over, it's better to be by a Ferrari. ;)

it really is a terrible shame. no offense to sluiter, but guga couldnt have had much more of an easy draw and he really blew it. i think he should give the european clay season one last swing cos he is bound to get a wildcard to RG and then if he does shit, call it a day

I think you should go to the doctor and get a prescription for your addiction, saying "expected win"

The world where Tipsarevic schooled Hewitt.

well, anything pointed to a sluiter win in this match. so why was it not expected? is there anything expected from guga at all? don't think so.

Does anyone know if he has fully recuperated from his various surgeries? Is this just a lack of conditioning and practice? It is never nice to see a Champion struggle. But respect his choice to continue and leave on his own terms. Not everyone can pull off a Sampras.
