Will James Blake Bounce Back in Miami?

So, James Blake has not won anything since Sidney and he's been playing awful. Is he pulling a Ginepri or will he bounce back and beat Safin and Nadal in Miami?

I think his peak was last year.

I wish he could regain his form but he always has been a mental case.

Not playing up to his level last year that's for sure. Can he get back? Looks a bit suspect right now, but if he is able to work through some negativity he should be able to improve again.

Jury is still out IMO- Blake is just not a fighter. Hopefully he'll get over that in a hurry or else it may be a quick slide out of the top 10.

You know I would really hope he would get his act together, he has turned out to be one of the biggest disappointments so far. When he was at his best the only thing that let him down was his mentality. And because he played so well you were just left to think well maybe he'll get it together eventually, but now it seems like mentally he is completely gone.

So I don't know maybe he just needs some confidence. You'd think that whooping on the world number 2 constantly would do something for his mental state, but I guess not.

Come back Blake

No. Blake will not win Miami. He will lose to Safin.

I wouldn't be surprised if he lost his first match:o

I personally think if he gets a couple of matches under his belt, he is capable of reaching the final. I think his problem has been winning a couple of matches (consecutive), so I think if he beats Safin he can beat Nadal. I think Safin is more dangerous to Blake than Nadal even though Nadal is the better player

It is just mean-revertion, James is always prone to bad matches due to his high risk game, for example last year he lost early to Wang and Vliegen.

anyone ever had the idea that maybe, just maybe he's been playing better last year than he's actually able to do on a "normal" day? he's a little overhyped, if you ask me. he has never been as strong as those top 5 guys and he's therefor never really deserved to be up there with the best. he's a solid top10-20 guy, but top 5, winning masters and advancing to gs semis? no way. i mean, let's face it: his backhand is still unstable and if blake doesn't get his forehand right (which he currently apparently doesn't), he'll probably have problems defeating solid top 30 guys.

I think he's been unlucky with his GS draws. Getting Feds everytime...

well, last year he lost vs. robredo, monfils, mirnyi and, yep, fedex, at grand slams.

He has a terrible serve and mentally he is brain dead. He overachieved in 2006. 2007 he will play at his normal level. And that is top 20 tennis.;)

Well, he is a nice guy. He is far more talented that Ljubicic in my opinion.

He has a terrible serve :retard: , his serve is far from terrible... he has a better serve than most top 10 and top 20 players

I wouldnt say his serve is better than most of the top guys.

Thats my opinion at least.

I think Blake has 2 years left to win a Slam or a 5-setter at least. Either one would be a big achievement.

You kiding me guy?

You are giving Blake a chance to win a slam? You think Blake actually has a chance and Cañas doesn't?

:haha: :haha: :haha:

I didn't say he will. I said if he does win a slam or a 5-setter? Did you get the joke :)

But I will say this! Blake has a better chance of winning a slam than he does winning a 5-setter. 'nuff said!

he'll do ok, probably quarters

That would be a fine result to gets things back on track. James is at about that age that things start to go south. But there have been enough players to buck that trend, James could do it as well.

Making it back to Shanghai would be a massive success.

I dunno, he has some tough opposition to get to the quarters though... Hopefully he'll come through...

a lot of truth in what many has said
to me he is a late bloomer
& at 27 I think he has playeed his best season in 2006
he still might do well this year, if ur not comparing it
but to finish in the top 8 this season is difficult
he is not GS material, no disrespect
he has done well with his talent but expectations cant be high with him
he has obvious weakness & attiude/mental demise

I think the US need him to have a good tournament here before Davis Cup as if he goes into their tie low in confidence, I think the US will really struggle and Nadal especially might pull a previously unexpected win over him. He's got a tough draw in Miami though and I'm expecting Safin to knowck him out. (If Marat decides to get through his opener - you never know with him!!!)

Blake is a likeable guy but his game is limited.
big forehand, speed and big serve that is sometimes consistent, needs a better 2nd serve.

improved backhand but still vulnerable plus mental lapses.
absolutely no volley skills at all.

no angle or mini court game like Roger's shots. just deep and hard but with today's fast players...most will get to it.

he should be better than Andy Roddick and ranked higher but consistency is a problem....perhaps he's dealing with some personal demons...engaged or something. ?

it never fails to always bring a good player down in the rankings.
quarters or semis max for him...then done.
prove me wrong James.
lots of folks are pulling for you dog.
get an all around game like Pete and you're on Top. he could've taken a set off Federer a few times but lapses and Fed's skill were too much.
