...that it's since Nadal's uprising that many not-so-great players start having sucess and even entering top 10? Maybe his sucess gave them self-confidence and hope, since his game does not look that awesome neither? Would you call that negative of positive influence?

And from the other side, you'd also say it is since Agassi's veteran performances that many "old" players decide to go on playing... Henman is the example and I'd say at least five of them more (Jonas, Rusedski...). Were there ever so much >30 players in masters/GS draws?

It may happen that in 10 years time we will watch a bunch of 35 years-old players!

I'm sure he wouldn't seeing as how his playing style is murdering the number 1's playing style. I think rafa would like to keep his and improve it, whilst having a winning record over the best player in history.

Sorry, but it's absolutely hilarious to me how some fans disparage Roger's game as being "ballet tennis." Besides the fact that calling Roger's game "ballet" and Rafa's game "Spartan" does a huge disservice to both ballet and Sparta, it also does a huge disservice to both Roger and Rafa's games, both of which are far more rich/complex and entertaining than any asinine single-word generalization could ever properly describe.

It's also hilarious to see the sexism inherent in the disparagement of "ballerina tennis," as if somehow a more artistic/flashy/stylistic type of tennis game is inherently "girly," and as if girly tennis is somehow inferior to "man's tennis [sic]." And it's utterly hilarious to see such a sexist notion being parroted by females as well as males on this board, but I suppose that's what keeps MTF entertaining. :)

The inherent sexism goes along way around here. I doubt very much the blanket dismissal by some of the WTA, indeed the use of 'WTA' as a putdown or epithet, is purely to do with the quality of tennis on that tour.

I know quite a few professional ballet dancers, both male and female, and their work ethic, work outs, strength, athletic ability and stamina would put many athletes to shame. They can combine power with artistry.

Yeah but that doesn't make them any less feminine while dancing and twirling.

It's still feminine movement, have you ever watched so you think you can dance, it's a like American idol except it's for dancers. Well ever year they have at least 2 or 3 dancers who are trained in modern, contemporary,or lyrical dance, who are male. They have the hardest time having to switch gears to dances that are much more masculate, like Latin ballroom and ballroom dance.

Last year I think they had the most number of contemporary dancers on the show, and some of the guys really struggled with latin ballroom because Latin dancing is very old school where the guy is the guys and the girl is the girl, the guy leads and that's it, the girl follows.

and because with contemporary dance, the movement is very flowy and well feminine the guys who are trained in it have a hard time making their movements look more masculine.

So this is from trained professional dancers who tell them all the time you need to learn how to be more masculine with your movements.

I don't think so much with the male ballet dancers but more with the contemporary dancers.

It was only one guy on the show who could switch from that style of dance to being masculine when he danced with a girl. you don't want more swish in your step than the women your dancing with

Who says so to you? I may be a hell lotta more successful then you and still not a coward.

hey rafa=fed killa why does it seem that everything nadal does is borderline cheating, his uncle made him play left-handed because it gives rightys big problems with the spins,he yells everytime he hits the ball on purpose to throw off the opponent and so they cant really hear the ball come off the strings, he plays with the biggest racquethead on tour so he has a huge sweet spot(fed plays with smallest racquethead on tour),he takes forever in between points to throw off the rythem of the opponent,he acts like a retard whenever he wins a point(unlike fed who doesn't make a big gay display whenever he hits a great shot out of respect for his opponent) and why is federer all chilled out and relaxed on court, and nadal is always nervous and freaking out on court? And its funny whenever fed and nadal play a long and physical point with a lot of running, after the point nadal is always breathing hard and sucking air, and federer looks like nothing happened and hes not breathing hard? and by the way federer is the spartan and nadal is just a hard-hitting oaf, and thats the truth.

No one matches my brilliance.

Your "brilliance" has been surpassed a few times just in this thread.

I thought Spartans valued honour. That means they'd despise someone that promises something and doesn't fulfill it, like you.

How you look has nothing to do with sports.

Which is why you disparage an entire category of players for the way they look on the tennis court.

And as much as I like Murray and his game, your assertion that he's a Spartan is hilarious, considering that had he been born to a Spartan mother and father, they'd have abandoned that sickly-looking thing on the slopes of Mount Taygetos and rushed off to conceive something more hale. :tape: :haha:

Yeah.....I don't think Spartan is quite the right word for Murray. Their armor probably weighed more than he does.

:rolls:

Success at any cost is the true path to greatness.

E.g. Roger, who has to dismiss playing Spartan tennis to be truly successful, thus great. :D

It may happen that in 10 years time we will watch a bunch of 35 years-old players!

Dude, what do you mean "Rafa's game does not look awesome"?

When I watched the French Open 2005 semis of him against Fed, my eyes were stuck at Rafa, not Fed. It was the first time I ever saw tennis, and to a neutral eye, Rafa was far more athletic, and beautiful. I still haven't seen anyone who moves himself with ease around the court, and is always soo ex-citing to watch. His tennis is never boring. Even if the other players like to fancy that they can match up to him, they have lots of homework to do, because all put aside, Rafa is a mentally strong athlete, even if not a complete player as Fed. Goddamit...He rocks when he plays! He's awesome!

i agree with u on this . rafa has the most buetiful game in today's tennis . his serve is not about speed but about accuracy and spin which is great . his backhand is improving and can only get better with time . his forehand is the best of all time in my eyes because very few are able to deal with it when he rips them with topspin .

Glenn, I have to disagree with you, because when I watched Rafa play Fed for the first time (which was also the first time I actually saw tennis), I was hooked to Rafa's athleticism, which I found much superior (as a non-fan of tennis) to Fed. So to push me away as a "fanboy" is inappropriate. I am still only learning the 'traditional ways' of tennis but clearly for a person who never had a favourite because he never understood the game, to find Rafa more beautiful is clearly obvious as he IS more exciting to watch.

I'll tell you what...Rafa's game is TRP material (he can pull in audiences quite naturally), Roger's is not. Of course, once you begin to understand tennis and appreciate it like wine...maybe things take a different turn, no?

I try hard to avoid it as much as possible but things have taken a turn for the worse,

If and I mean if everything you said in the above statement is even half of what you believe to be true than

Why has Rafa beaten Fed 6 out of the 9 times they've met

If Fed is such a spartan than why has he been taken out of his games so many times by an oaf

Please do not any longer continue to ravish the spartan legacy by associating it with Federer the ballerina

The ghost of the past will visit you in the night and rip off you fingers so they can no longer post such nonsense every again, and allow them to rest in piece

Sparta is only reserved for the warriors

The only thing reserved for Fedybear is ballet camp

And really you believe growing a kid up to play with his left hand is cheating. Don't hate uncle Toni for being a master tactician

And from the other side, you'd also say it is since Agassi's veteran performances that many "old" players decide to go on playing... Henman is the example and I'd say at least five of them more (Jonas, Rusedski...). Were there ever so much >30 players in masters/GS draws?

Maybe, but MAYBE, I would agree with you if we were talking about football or boxing ... but if you are forgeting we are talking about TENNIS ... and this is the most elegant, classy sport ... exactly like Federer ... and this is why he is soo good ... he is classy and elegant (on and off court) ... a match made in heaven ... Glenn you and other fedtards are bold, I have to give you that. I don't think I would have the balls

By your and other fedtards logic rafa has no game at all.

Fed is the best ever and consequently can beat anyone whenever, however.

But some how through devices unknown has managed to fall sort of that feat more than enough times to count on one hand

And by the way his best winning record over any one is his winning recored over fed

And still manage to bash him, now that takes balls

Rafa is a loser who cant strike a ball correctly, no intelligence whatsoever and has an ugly game

Fed is the greatest in every aspect but cant' figure the above out

Now if you talked to any half intelligent person and just presented those facts if they knew nothing of the sport or who these people were I think they'd be a little confused.

Which is by far the one reason that I've calculated as the main reason for all the resentment toward rafa by Fedtards

they fear what they can't understand

Golden rule of diversity

so yeah the tennis world and the rest of the sports world are far apart, that's why they aren't respected as athlete.

I swear the only place you can find people who can find fault with athleticism is in a tennis forum

I agree! To relegate tennis as only for the elegant is like saying sweat has no place in sports. Sports are perhaps the only place in modern times where physical endurance is legitimately tested, and that could be any sport, not the more "manly" ones like soccer, etc.

sn't it just a joy to watch Rafa slide from one end of the court to the other (grace in motion), and pick up a near impossible return at the nth moment, and fling it over Roger's shoulder out of his reach leaving him wondering how the hell did he pick that up. He was fast, he was athletic, that's how! And that's what you need to beat someone as complete as Fed.

SHHH fedtards don't understand what it means to play a sport

Don't burst their bubble by introducing them to the real world of sports.

Nadal plays something very far from tennis. Get a clue.

Nobody in the US cares for Nadal but Federer matches are always full, can you guess that? :silly:

You're agreeing with someone that was speaking total :bs: about tennis. By the way, the one with the records is Federer, not this moonballer. Get a clue, Nadal is just a stronger version of Mello or other left-handed pushers.

u r an absolute :retard: . i know very well tht rafa is the absolute best at the moment after fed . but rafa is no monballer . he is am example in his own way about beautiful tennis . his forehand in my books is better looking thn federer and is also more effective , his backhand is really great and i would love him to learn the slice from federer or someone . he is only 20 and is already so good , wht was fed when he was 20  . u just hate rafa and are not ready to accept tht rafa is a very nice person and always respects federer and other tennis players . he will be the next world number one and deserves to be so , i hope u wont hate tht :wavey:

It's sick that some of you "fans" have to go to such extremes as to bash Nadal and his talent. Why can't everyone support their players without putting others down...

All this mentioning about how Tennis is supposed to be a classy sport, and yet, all I've read were negativities towards 2 of the current greatest athletes in this sport.

Federer plays the game of tennis beautifully, and Nadal plays with great emotion and athleticism, whichever side we prefer to see, they both are the greatest aspects of this game that we've seen in a while, so sit back and enjoy every match like REAL fans!

Whether you are a Rafa fan or a fan of The Fed's, I don't think either of them would support the ways you people are representing your support by bashing the others... The more Fed-Raf match ups we see, the better the treat will be for all tennis fans, because then there would actually be some competition left in this sport. Thank you!

That's exactly what I keep telling the Fed fans but they dont listen. They should be more supportive to Rafa's talent, no?

Yeah! Sit back and enjoy like fans of the game, not fans of Fed alone, and bashing a double-french open champion like he's a fluke. Learn from TNN74, Glenn and the rest of you!;)

...And hope and pray that he wins the RG one more time and become the youngest triple RG champ ever; pray like true tennis fans!:D

Federer is a great player, already one of the greatest of all time and it may well be a serious debate as to whether he is the GOAT soon. Nadal is a great player, he isn't mentioned in debates with the greats yet, he hasn't won a slam off clay and slams are what are remembered. However, his potential is clear. They are bot great. Can it not be left at that?
