If he plays like he did in IW he's got a good shot of winning another tournament. That said, he didn't play Federer. I'm assuming that Federer will be back on track in Miami and since he usually becomes more focused after a loss, he'll probably be winning that title.

But I voted for Roddick because I'd love to see them play again, except this time Andy can come out with a game plan.

rafa will win it even though i'd like andy to hoist this trophy! but in anyways there's no chance for fed defense another title of his! i guess rafa's back now and is gonna be the same player as he used to be in 2005! when he won 11 titles!

SBruguera

If you want to jinx the other players the "noone" option should be out of the poll. ;)

This time Andy will have a hard time deciding which half of the draw he would rather be in. :p

Seriously, I think that Feds will come out firing on all cylinders from the 1st round. No fooling around this time. :armed: Hopefully both Roger and Rafa will reach the final in good form and give us another classic (best of 5 ) final. :)

he will not win miami. I think he had played well at indian wells but his true competetion was eliminated so it made it easier. Now at miami, it will be a different story and watch when he loses clay court matches , it wont be pretty. confidents will drop. i dont see either him or federer winning roland garros

 smoking too much crack, I'd say...

Federer was beaten by Nadal, Murray and Canas in the last 1.5 years

Nadal was beaten by Clement, Blake, Moya, Hewitt, Federer, Berdych, Ferrero, Youzhny, PimPim, Malisse and Gonzalez in the same timeframe.

Now I leave it up to the audience to determine what 'every other player' means in this context.

Tell me rafagirlno1, do you have brains, and if so, why not use it from time to time? I'm being dead serious here...

I'll tell you what this means, Rafa is human and has to work for his wins, which means he can lose

Fed is inhuman, part of a alien species maybe therefore wins quite easily and reduces his chances of lost.

I'm not saying anything about Rafa himself. I just wonder what this person rafagirlno1 means by saying that Federer is 'roasted by every other player' - in the context of Federer just losing one match after like 6-7 months. In what way is 1 in 7 months 'every other player'? I mention Rafa only because he/she is obviously a Rafa fan, and in the same 7 months Fed lost to just 1 player, Rafa lost to like 8 of them. So if anyone is getting roasted by every other player it can only be Rafa. Although I wouldn't go so far as to say that, because he still wins more than he loses...

Heh, I think he first needs some kind of therapy to get Rafa out of his mind. Play him some tough Rafa losses, anything, just convince him it IS possible, in fact, to beat Rafa. Because quite frankly, he didn't look as if he had any hope of beating Rafa.

And I still think you can't beat Rafa if you have no patience. So if Roddick just can't be patient, then tough luck. You can't possibly win if you play with the assumption that you just have to convert every forehand into a winner, or else. That way he just goes UE after UE.

Roddick's forehand (unless his Cincy07 forehand reappears) will prevent him from beating Nadal anytime soon.

BS, if Roddick serves near 70%, and takes some cuts on returns he's got a chance. He's got to put his volleys away and flatten his forehand out a bit...he just didn't have a very good game plan against Rafa...except leave some volleys sitting and get passed...lol

If Roddick would have done a lot of things he could have made it a competitive match against rafa. No one is saying he played any where near his best tennis there, that was an awful showing from Roddick.

I for one thought Roddick actually would pull out the win, didn't know rafa would come in playing like he did that match. In fact I think If Rod had played his best tennis and Rafa had showed up playing like he did against Nole Rod could have pulled off the win, with a high serving percentage.

But those are all ifs, so maybe Rod can get some validation at DC, he needs it

Yea, I think me, like everyone else expected a convincing win from Roddick over Nadal. I mean Roddick is the more accomplished HC player...but I just don't think Andy had played Rafa in awhile and there is a reason Rafa is number two. So I think if they play again on HC maybe at DC, maybe in Miami we will see a more competitive match. Andy certainly can trouble Rafa if he has a good day serving.

No no no. Again, 70% is not the main thing here. He didn't have that bad percentage this time, and still lost comfortably. Even if you serve 70% on average you are bound to give a game or two with a lower percentage, and also, it's not that Rafa just can't win any of those 1st serves as well. If I'm not mistaken it was precisely the 1st serve tha Rafa returned well, that first point which ultimatively led to the first break. Andy served huge, Rafa guessed the side, went on it and returned; Andy came forward, half-volleyed to the exact side Rafa anticipated, and of course, the result was an easy passing shot. And all this off of first serve, not second.

So like I said, 60% should be quite enough IF and only IF his forehand actually produces more winners (or at least forced errors, but with Rafa, you just never know if he will make those wannabe forced errors into his own winners  ) than UEs, which wasn't the case in their last match. And I believe it was like that because Andy thought he needed to finish points ASAP at any cost, as if he just couldn't cope with anything over 5 shots, which clearly isn't true. Against some other people he wasn't THAT afraid to go into any kind of a longer baseline exchange. And also, when you are playing Rafa, rushing like that is just suicide; he will often pass much more competent net players than Andy. I really don't understand who came up with that poor excuse for a gameplan against someone like Rafa.

Why? Because I was Rafa fresh for clay. Is it just me or doesn't anyone realize that hardcourt tennis takes a lot out of Rafa!!! He has Davis Cup in between Miami and Monte Carlo also.

He won IW. He proved to the world that he's good on HC. No need to waste energy at another "insignificant with respect to slams" HC event.

Clay season is significant because he has to peak for RG. HC tennis takes a lot out of Rafa. When he plays 2-3 HC events in a row he usually ends up irritating his lingering tendonitis and then his form dips ( any counterexamples? Doubt it). Or he gets a different injury. Last year it happened, but luckily it happened late in IW, which meant he sucked in his first match at Miami and he was booted out. This allowed him time to rest and recover his form for Clay. Don't underestimate that early exist last year.

Q. How are the conditions here with the court? I know the weather is
different than Indian Wells, but how does the court play?
ROGER FEDERER: Quite similar. I think it's very slow here actually, too.
I don't know if it's slower than the last couple years, but it's hard to
hit winners from the baseline. You've kind of got to work your way into
those points. Kind of force the error, not actually get winners and stuff.
So it's very similar to Indian Wells, it's just humidity and wind, which
makes it harder to control, and sweat, which makes it difficult.

No. IW has been in the past a bit faster than Miami, but both have been very much slower than Dubai, USOpen, Cincy, USOpen Series, etc.

This year IW is slower than last/past to compete with Miami. ;)

Roger doesn't seem pleased with the Miami surface (nor IW). The part where he says "force the error, not actually get winners and stuff" has serious negative connotations in it.

He also "kind of" blamed his first round loss in IW to 2 things:

1) blisters (which also caused timeouts which made him lose rythm)
2) the change of surfacespeed between Dubai and IW

Well it's _his fault_ he didn't get used to the IW court by practicing there. He was busy practicing at peoples' houses (not same surface) And he didn't arrive early enough to prepare (he even does for lower events like Dubai, Japan Open).

And one another thing is that he kind of _partially credited_ Nadal's win at IW to the surface.

I don't see what's so negative about that interview. All he's saying is that it's harder to get a winner because it's not fast. And what's so bad about him saying that the surface suited Nadal since it obviously did. It was a high bouncing slow surface which suits his game perfectly.

This is getting boring. Now Berdych is out of Miami. Only Roddick, Federer and Noone are left in the list of piggy-roasters. The tournament is still young though...

Noone is having a great tournament. I actually prefer watching Noone play better than Bye.

I would love to see these guys go head to head.

Okay, dude ! I got the spelling. now tell me...

Is Youzhny pronounced as
"You-n'-he" : As in 'us and them'? or as
"You-sneeze": As in a sneeze? or as
"Youh-honey": As in 'Your honey'? or as
"Your-knee": AS in addressing my knee or his own, perhaps!

Weight on first syllable.

"You" pronounced roughly as the the English "you"

"zh" roughly as "si" in "vision"

"ny" as "ni" in "finish"

It's correctly pronounced as: "Youzh-nee," "zh is said like the 'ge' in garage."

A lot of people say it similar to "Yoos-nee", but the correct pronunciation is by saying the 'zh' in the exact same tone as you would do with the 'ge' in garage!

Yujnii: 'yuj' as in youth and 'nii' as in eye?
Pity! I thought it matched with Houdini, unless of the magician's name was pronounced as Who-dun-eye!

'Yuj' with the 'j' pronounced like it is in French.

Ni as in 'neeeee'.

Yes, it does rhyme with Houdini.

Wow! People with answers! Actually, from the material I now have, I can infer that it must be 'You-snee' + 'a drunken sailor's accent' = 'Youzhny!'

Oh I get it now!

There was once this player called Youzh-ny
Whose name rhymed well with Houdi-ni
But he didn't make magic
and that was too tragic
As it proved in the courts of mioo-mi

Another player out of the list. Federer has lost to Cañas.

Is Miami a clone of IW?

Does History always repeats itself as Sondra says?

Actually, the entire list is out except Roddick...which frankly is pretty bizarre. We need one of these for every tournament! Especially Wimby :p

Ive just watched the Draw, Cañas wouldnt face Nadal until the final. Cañas will surely be there, but Nadal will probably lose to Youzhny before.

Close it was not Youzhny but it was Djokovic. Cañas was waiting there as stated for me before 1st match started. :worship:
