Sampras Speaks!

Well, not in his own words but still, to even get word that Sampras is still alive and breathing is cause for celebration. ;)

Tales from the Tour
Pete Sampras is widely regarded as one of the greatest player of all-time, so when the 14-time Grand Slam champion expresses his fears on the spate of positive dope tests, his words should be taken on board. In discussion with Paul Annacone, the 32-year-old believes the game's image has been sullied.

"We have talked briefly, and he along with many others can't figure out why so many tests are coming back with elevated levels," Annacone told reporters on Wednesday.

"The current players are concerned, and he also realizes it hurts the integrity of the game."

But Annacone revealed that in talking to the American legend, that players, administrators and fans should not to jump to conclusions.

"He says to be careful, because all the facts of each case are not out there, and when you get small bits of information many different conclusions can be drawn," Annacone said.

Last month British number two Greg Rusedski was cleared of a doping charge, despite testing positive for nandrolone.

The ATP's anti-doping tribunal ruled "unanimously and unequivocally" that Rusedski was not guilty.

There were seven positive nandrolone results among men tennis players between August 2002 and May 2003, and the ATP have admitted their trainers may have been responsible for handing out contaminated supplements.

While Sampras, who made his retirement official in September of 2003, stays familiar with what is going on in the tennis world, such concerns are no longer his main focus, according to Annacone.

"He's enjoying life off the court now," Annacone said.

"Being a father and enjoying being a husband and not having to stick to such a rigid regimen of practice and training. It's nice having some flexibility."

Annacone said that as well as enjoying his time as a family man, Sampras was also spending a lot of time playing golf.

"The flexibility to do what he wants when he wants is a great luxury right now, and Pete feels good about the transition into post tennis playing life," Annacone said.

Hey! Guess who's on the cover of Tennis magazine this month? And guess what the headline says? That's right, "SAMPRAS SPEAKS!" (I mean it this time) ;)

Great new photos of him and his family inside (Christian is soooo adorable!) and a nice long interview with Petey. I'm glad he's finally broken his silence. :)
