hmmmm it makes me a little nervous... I don't want it to go to the fifth rubber.

And. .... I am getting so  over all these reports that practically have Argentina and the USA winning and meeting in the semis. :fiery:

First they are jinxing Argentina... I just KNOW it! and second.......... They are thinking my brave Swedes don't have a chance in hell against the USA.

And I'm sorry sweet Carito  but maybe these reports will jinx the USA and Sweden will win.... :)

And now he will play two matches. How is his injury?

Thank you for answering,jazz_girl.

04-09-2004, 02:34 AM
The way I see it, we really don't need to worry, Argentina will surely pull it off :wavey:
Mirnyi most certainly won't beat BOTH Canas, and Calleri, while those two should easily win over Volchkov. :worship: So no matter what happens in doubles Argentina will be getting through :D

Yeah i mean.. he's a knee injured.. but he says it doesn't hurt that much and it's not very bad.
He's a sweetheart because he knows there is the posibility of his injure gettin worse... but he'll take the risk and play for his country anyways :)

Yes, I am nervous too!! And although I don't like Mirnyi - I don't think he's over-rated (unfortunately!). He has an amazing serve and is very strong and powerful, and he also has a huge amount of pride in his country which makes him even more dangerous in DC. And with Voltchkov - well he has had a string of poor results lately, but he did reach the Wimbledon semi-final a couple of years ago, - so he's not to be under-estimated. Also, he and Max are a very experienced doubles team and both excellent doubles players, which is what I think is the most worrying thing of all

And btw - I'm with Star - I want Sweden to beat USA!

There is only so much you can do, and being hideously nervous isn't going to help. If it's 1-1 after the end of the day, then that would be a good result.

Action Jackson

We all have our own ways of doing things, but lets hope Calleri and Canas can perform very well tonight.

At least Canas will know exactly how Mirnyi will play, so he better block a lot of the returns and make Mirnyi hit a lot of low volleys.

Calleri can crush Voltchkov, he better be on the ball right away from the start.

*Ljubica*

OK Jazz_Girl - well here I have tea, chocolate Easter Eggs, and a large supply of "hot cross buns" (sticky buns that we eat here at Easter!), so between us we will put on many kilos during this tie :p I would probably have to raid the local Bakery if David was playing!!

jazz_girl
04-09-2004, 11:38 AM
Yeah, I have faith in Agustin too. I'm a little worried about Caņas, I hope his knee doesn't bother him at all.
I read that the guys found the surface even faster than the one in Paris-Bercy, but they could adjust just fine, and Arnold is very happy about it...

I remember when I first heard that this match was going to happen, that this court will be faster than anything that they played on. So what the teams says doesn't surprise me at all.

Lucky I don't watch matches with Rosie and Jazz, I think the facial gestures could be more interesting than many of the matches.

OK well - as George says, it is a best of 5-set match so he has time. He just has to focus and concentrate. Anyone that can beat Agassi and Ferrero in Spain should be able to beat Voltchkov with his eyes closed - but, sadly, Calleri always has been a little inconsistant. Dare I say - I want David? OK - no, - that wasn't very fair - AGUANTE AGUSTIN!

Action Jackson
04-09-2004, 12:44 PM

See this is the reason I am annoying to watch matches with, I will disect everything that is going on and then keep commenting all the time.

It is not him playing bad, and it is not Voltchkov playing great. It's just a surface. Extremely quick carpet. All Russians, including Safin looked very uncomfortable on that surface too. The surface is tailor-made for Belarus. On any other surface, except, perhaps, for grass, Voltchkov would not have had a prayer against Calleri.
