For someone who saw last nights match I was shocked at the low level of tennis displayed.

But most shocking was his lack of serve. He is ranked 70th in the world in first serve percentage, that is no young gun:rolleyes:
He just about never got a first serve in.
He was incredibly boring to watch and had no personality other than the occasional cursing at himself.
Maybe you murrray fans could enlighten me as to why any one could like this guy.

The fact he has such a consistently low serve percentage and is still beating players like Haas and Davydenko shows how good he is. I personally think he isn't boring to watch but last night wasn't a good example of how nicely he can play.

But everyone is entitled to their opinions. ;)

Well, how about the head to head? They have only played once and Djoko won, fair enough. I can even see that it might be 2-0 after tonight, Nole will be coming into the match much fresher.

Come back to me in 5 years and we'll compare the H2H. . .it might mean something by then.

Well, you seem to his truthful fan so what you're saying is not that logical to me. However, I kinda agree with you the fact his play is not boring. I prefer his game even though his first serve percentage is :retard:. What I'm really boring to watch is like Duck's game that fires a bunch of aces and serve winners.

Yeah sure - I am trying to be as impartial as I can be but sometimes it doesn't work. :p

But I agree with you - would rather watch a capable returner with decent groundstrokes than someone who just serves a flurry of aces.

I believe he may have sprained his ankle during the match, right? Maybe youve never done that but I have and after taht I was tenative on it for a while. The way he was able to win the match after the way he injured his ankle was very impressive even if it was the 'prettiest' victory.

I have just been looking at those statistics as Case suggested. There are ten categories, and we are comparing 3 people against each other.

Andy came out as the best in 4 of them, as did Nole, with Richard only being top in 2

Andy came out second-best in 3 of them, Nole 4, Richard 3.
Andy came last in 3 of them, Nole 2, Richard 5.

Seems to me Gasquet is the one who suffers by those stats.

Yes, Andy's first serve % is diabolical: yet he beats top-rank, in-form players. His returning is darn good, however, and if ever he improves that serve accuracy, watch out.

Actually you did not give an accurate view of the stats

gasquet and murray have the same % service games won but was ranked lower because he has played less matches.
gasquet is only two points lower in 1st serves won
and gasquet has the same first serve % as Djokovic but again is ranked lower because less matches played
gasquet also has the same % in break points saved as Djokovic and again is ranked lower because of matches played

and for beating in form?? davydenko wasnt and neither was haas.

Yes, professional tennis players frequently employ the tactics of a three year old playing a videogame in the quarter finals of a MS event...

Really, there are far too many people who watch tennis through UE/winner statistics. Is it just a coincidence that Murray and Nadal always run into players on a bad day? Are they both blessed with some supernatural ability to prevent the other player from playing well or does it have something to do with the way they both play tennis?

Being boring is a supernatural ability? Professional tennis players who have won one MS event in their entire career will give up one of their best opportunities to win another because they "can't be bothered"? Good luck with the journalism - you must have offers flooding through your letterbox with that level of analytical skill.

One of two scenarios are taking place therefore -

1. You're actually some incredibly talented journalist with a high degree of analytical skill who likes to spend all of their time on a tennis forum writing ironic childish drivel to amuse yourself. As part of your subtle ruse you employ a standard of English that someone brought up speaking German in Switzerland can identify as hopelessly inadequate for anything outside of a Kindergarten newspaper.

I really can't stand his coach or his personality. OTOH, I don't agree that his game is boring. I like his hacking, his ball pushing, his good hands, his changes of pace, net play, finesse, great movement. having said that I still far prefer Haas, Justine Henin or Federer for their attacking game. But people in this thread who can't see Murray's talent, unique game and ability to take his opponents out of their comfort zone dont' really understand/appreciate diverse styles of tennis IMHO. I think his game is more interesting than boring andy roddick and moonball musclehead Nadal.

Everyone seems to discount Murray's good attacking skills. Can generate pace as much as anyone on the tour and can hit some sublime shots. Id like him to be more aggressive
