So why exactly are Top 50 players like Tursunov, Massu and Monfils playing in a challenger event which is on at the same time as Indian Wells? Or at all considering their ranking?

Did they just decide to play in this challenger because they were defeated so early on in Indian Wells and thought they'd better play some tennis this week anyway?

Isn't there some rule that a player ranked as high as Tursunov can't play in a challenger tournament like this?

Thanks.

So is Monfils still playing?

What players were actually in the draw?

Whats the ranking points for the winner?

The whole tournament?

So a lot of players sign up for the challenger specifically as a back up incase they are defeated in the first round of Indian Wells?

I always thought Top 50 players were not allowed to play challengers? What is the ranking cut off and how often do players ranked as high as Tursonov play Challengers?

Thanks.

Monfils def Vemic 7:6 6:4 ,and reached 1/4final.
For that ,players get 19 points,I think.

Isn't there some rule that a player ranked as high as Tursunov can't play in a challenger tournament like this?Fee explained why in the Challenger thread:

I think it's a good idea for guys like Monfils or Massu who have been struggling lately.
Monfils needs to win matches, to get rid of this feeling he can't close out a match anymore. Plus he just started working with his new coach, it's a perfect occasion for Delaitre to watch him and to try out new things.

But I'm not so sure for Tursunov indeed, it looks like he was still having issues with his wrist, so why play one more event?

(There were many other players with a better ranking or in better form than Monfils or Massu, btw, like Gicquel, Vliegen, Hrbaty, Mayer, del Potro... But they've all lost in the early rounds.)

Here is the explaination:
This is one of the rare ATP owned Super Challengers. It exists specifically to give players something to do between IW and Miami, and the court is the same surface as Miami. The ATP has granted an exception so that any player ranked 11 or above can enter. Anyone who is still playing in IW on Sunday at 6 pm will be withdrawn from Sunrise without penalty. No one is really there for the points or the money, they are there for the workout. The list will drop, just like it did last year and the year before that. You can check the archives here or at the Steve G forum if you want to see just how much it changes by the time the draw is made on Monday.

Concerning Tursunov, he still has pain in his wrist. He withdrew from doubles after his loss.

So Tursunov has apparently become the Venus Williams of the ATP tour.

Pity as Tursunov was playing pretty well at the Hopman Cup before the Australian Open.

I think you should learn how to serve, how to hit a forehand, how to hit a backhand, how to volley before you make such comments.
