RonE, i know you dislike rafa, but i was all right with it coz everyone has its favourite and least favourite players, and I was all right with your jokes about rafa coz they were not insulting and sometimes gave us some laughs, but i think in these days, you have gone a bit too far, seems you are more happy for nadal to lose than roger to win, its kind of weird for me

Oh, I just think that RonE is preparing a good old piggy roasting and those always seem to taste better when the expectations were high so he's trying to build up momentum.

At least, that's my guess. Roddick is playing very well, so in no way can you seriously say that Nadal will demolish him and really mean it. Come on.

No sarcasm no jinx
Yeah, right. ;) Have fun with the roasting if/when it happens, Ron. :wavey: Hopefully, later rather than sooner but we'll see. Roddick is going to be very tough for Rafa to beat.

Rogiman's, Rone's and IvanLjubicic's posts attempting to bost potential Rafa roasters in other threads have been so disastrous that RonE is attempting the voodoo in reverse.

RonE hasn't reckoned that retaining his signature will counteract the voodoo.

Back in the real world, unless Rafa was conserving energy in the Chela match, his current standard won't be enough to beat Andy.

moon language
03-16-2007, 09:34 AM
Standard story for Roddick, if he serves bombs all match he'll almost certainly win. If Nadal gets the returns in play and manages to get into rallies on Roddick's serves Roddick will lose. Nadal's forehand will give Roddick's backhand fits, so he needs to serve bombs and avoid that.

I actually agree with Ron, Roddick's defense will not be strong enough for Nadal; and coming to the net will only be a big no no against Nadal. His serve has to be at it's very best so that his forehand can connect with all short replies if he's to have a chance at winning.

I mean Ljubicic was pressuring Andy's serve all day last night and he's not even that great of returner, Nadal seems to struggle on the return against big servers nonetheless, we will just have to wait and see I guess, but somehow I just see his grit and defense prevailing.

Ok to all the smartasses who think I am just trying the jinx here is my unbiased analysis of the potential match up between the two players:

1.) The Roddick serve- yes it is a potent weapon but this shot concerns me less than Roddick's first shot after getting a potentially weak reply off a big serve. A lot of the times instead of really ripping the ball he places it at 3/4 length. Doing this will allow Rafa to get into the rally and point #2 ensues:

2.) The backcourt rallies- is there anyone who seriously thinks Roddick stands any chance in baseline rallies against Nadal? The Roddick backhand even under Jimbo's tutelage is still pretty average. I don't see it holding up against an endless barrage of topspun lefty forehands from Nadal into that wing. Add to the fact that Roddick hits his own forehand with a lot of topspin he won't outpower Rafa from the back.

3.) The Roddick ROS- an average and often unreliable aspect of his game. With the amuont of spin that Nadal puts on his serves Roddick will at best be able to hit a mid court ball allowing Rafa to take control of the point. Going back to Roddick's backhand as explained in point #2- he will have difficulty dealing not only with Rafa's forehand but with the heavy kick and spin of Nadal's serve into that wing. Roddick is no Berdych in that he doesn't have that ability to stand in while receiving and smack down those returns off the backhand to take control of the point from the get go.

Conclusion: Nadal wins the match rather easily and the whole MTF hype of Roddick-Nadal will disintegrate just as easily as have many previous hypes.

Now without further ado I will put on my capris and bandana and shout "Piggy Power" from the rooftops. :D

I didn't see the Gasquet match. But, I thought the match between he and Ljubicic was very entertaining. It completely held my interest. There were a couple things Andy did in the match that make me think, if done against Rafa, Rafa will make him pay. Pandy didn't look that great vs. Ljubo last night but then Chubby did well to push Rafa. Pandy didn't sound too confident in his on-court interview either. He'll have to hope he serves the bombs he served vs. Juanqui in USO03F if he is to have a chance in the SF. If he doesn't, he'll have to rely on... return of serve? agressive netplay? and not let Rafa bother him tennistically or otherwise.

Roddick would probably have a better shot beating Nadal at golf.

http://www.thedesertsun.com/apps/pbcs.dll/article?AID=/20070316/EVENTS10/703160374/1002/sports
NADAL HAD BETTER STICK TO TENNIS: Spanish tennis star Rafael Nadal has had better luck on the hardcourts of the Indian Wells Tennis Gardens than on the greens at the Golf Resort at Indian Wells.

During his off day on Wednesday, Nadal hit the links and shot a 21-over par. :help:

"Yesterday (Wednesday), I played disappointed, very bad result, hard time," he said. "I was playing bad the first nine. After I come back and I was losing against (fellow Spaniard Juan Carlos) Ferrero for shots, I come back and in the last hole, he has one putt like (five feet), so that's disappointing because I finally draw tie to the match."

Maybe it was karma, since Nadal eliminated Ferrero 6-1, 6-1 in the fourth round.

Nadal also carded 13-over and didn't know the score (or admit it) of another outing.

Conclusion: Nadal wins the match rather easily

An excellent description of how a match between the two of them on clay would unfold.

Thank you all for your appreciation I must say I am truly touched. :hatoff:

Anyway, back to my prediction- I will make a wager with all of you: I am so confident in Rafa destroying Roddick losing no more than 5 games in the process that if I'm wrong R=FK has to leave MTF again.

Only my perfect logic can save MTF.

Andy is heading toward humiliation... he should stay away from the net, it's not working out for him AT ALL.

He's offering nothing beside a serve today, and that's failing him... horrible shots selections and silly mistakes.

Jimnik
03-17-2007, 08:09 PM
Coming into the net is fine, hitting big FHs from within the baseline is even better, but rallying from 5 metres behind the baseline? :retard: :retard: :retard:

I can't believe that Connors, or any sane coach that wanted to keep his job, would have told him to do this.

Goodness me! the arrogance with which you guys dismiss Canas' chances to take a set to 7-6 is illogical considering RAfa's performance against players like Starace who took him to 5-7 and Ferrer again today. Considering Canas' similar ability for grinding his opponent like Rafa, there's a good chance that the scoreboard would read more like 7-6, 6-4, 6-4 (in Rafa's favour).

Did you actually put money on that bet? ;)

Yes, Cañas is a grinder too, but that may rather be in Raf's advance, as there's noone who even comes close to him in grinding abilities.
I think the chance of Raf dealing Cañas one or two breadsticks tomorrow is a lot bigger than your expected scoreline...

You're right about Rafa there, but his last three matches do suggest that there would be a set that'll drag up to 7-something, for sure.

I think the chance of Raf dealing Cañas one or two breadsticks tomorrow is a lot bigger than your expected scoreline...

Yeah? Knowing Rafa's nerves in the first set of any match against any player, my scoreline seems to be more realistic, when pitted against a resurgent Canas. Maybe not three sets, but certainly a hard-earned two sets then:cool: .
