So what exactly is it about a colorized court that effeminates the men's game?

Well up till now all the major hardcourt events including the other hardcourt TMS and the U.S. Open have switched to blue inner court and green outer court so purple is a nice variation I think :p

I can't wait to see it, I expect it to look quite nice. Green and purple, a nice combination of colours.

I can't see why this is 'feminizing' the sport, BTW . (Nor do I see why bringing in more feminine elements is so particularly wrong, but besides it being beyond the matter here, that may just be me?)

I want to see a pure black court. The ball will show up real well on TV then! Though you wouldn't be able to use it for outdoor courts unless you wanted the court to be sizzling hot. :haha:

That would be very 70s and 80s heavy metal. Totally

Though as you said totally hot for outdoor courts. It would only work for indoor.

Seriously, what the hell is a "feminized surface"? Did they grind up Feli and sprinkle him over the court?

Well.....that certainly WOULD add a touch of pizazz, wouldn't it? A little glitter to the drab. And hey! If we got any complaints, we could add a dash of Kuznetsova. That'd even it right up again.

Hey, I liked both Miami and the original green US Open courts that had their final bow in 2004. Not to mention the lovely soothing blue backdrops at both Monte Carlo and Rome that were dumped last year in favour of some grey-green combination at the former and a horrible glaring red at the latter. Red is my favourite colour, but not alongside clay, that's for sure.

Yeah, I liked the blue backdrop at Monte Carlo as well. It made it look more regal, which is fitting considering the location. I actually like the red at Rome. Gives it more flair; I thought the blue was kind of boring there, and for some reason I associate the color red with Italy, anyway.

By the way, I love your sig, Sjengster! What year was that? Such a ridiculous question to ask! But Roger's response was bloody genius; he nailed that one perfectly!

The first thing I noticed when I saw the matches yesterday was the purple courts. I thought they were changing courts to blue because there were studies or something that you could see the ball better on tv with a blue background. Is it something with the Ericcson sponsor, because there are purple ericcson signs and other purple colors around the grounds. Its not as bad as the multicolored WTT courts, but it still looks terrible.

Exactly, it's not because green is ugly but was inconvenient with with light green balls being used. Many players (Nalbandian: how else do you explain Ljubicic blowing him away with ace after ace? )were colour blind because the court and balls looked alike.

Here's what the SEWTA is bringing to Miami:

Sony Ericsson Open to Showcase Five Fashion Shows
Sponsors include Cavalli, Etro, Fila, Merrick Park and von Furstenberg

MIAMI – The 2007 Sony Ericsson Open will dazzle and awe fans this year with a total of five fashion shows at the Nexxus Fashion Park located in the Crandon Park Tennis Center on Key Biscayne.

The five sponsors – Roberto Cavalli, Etro, Fila, the Village of Merrick Park and Diane von Furstenberg – have stores at the Village of Merrick Park and will all be showcasing their spring and summer women’s clothing collections for VIPs and fans alike prior to the evening matches during the two weeks of the tournament. The shows are free to fans attending the Sony Ericsson Open during the specific sessions.

The increase in events is part of first year title sponsor Sony Ericsson’s strategy to take the tournament to a new, glamorous level. The site promises to reflect on the tournament’s dynamic image featuring a new front entrance experience and off-court activities that truly define a complete entertainment destination, while still featuring the best tennis in the world.

Fila, the world’s elite sports brand, kicks off the fashion extravaganza Friday night, March 23 at 5:00 p.m. with Fila Friday night, a Q&A session with Kim Clijsters and Svetlana Kuznetsova scheduled to appear. The top-10 ranked ladies will be providing Sony Ericsson Open attendees an inside look at the world of professional tennis.

Afterwards at 6:00 p.m., the Fila takes center stage with its newest designs as they are displayed on the runway by some of the most beautiful models in the world. Drawing on brand dedication to l'arte nello sport, with the beauty of performance, Fila will highlight signature pieces from its Spring & Fall 2007 sport line.

On Saturday, March 24, at 6:00 p.m., as part of a full night of entertainment that includes Roger Feder’s opening round match, world-renowned designer Roberto Cavalli will present his 2007 collection that is inspired to the colors of Mexico and the paintings of Frida Khalo.

The exclusive designer for Christina Aguilera’s Back to Basics World Tour, Cavalli has boutiques worldwide including New York, Miami, Paris, Rome, London, Moscow and Milan. Sharon Stone, Eva Longoria, Paris Hilton, Beyonce, Nicolette Sheridan, Brittany Murphy, Jada Pinkett Smith and Paz Vega have all sported Roberto Cavalli fashion on the red carpet.

The styles of legendary Diane von Furstenberg will hit the catwalk on Wednesday, March 28 at 6:00 p.m. Paying tribute to nature, her spring 2007 collection All About Eve celebrates the birth of femininity with bold, brave colors and loose silhouettes.

In 1972, the iconic Furstenberg became a household name when she introduced the jersey wrap dress, and in 2005, she was awarded the “Lifetime Achievement Award” from the Council of Fashion Designers of America. Her designs are sold in over 50 countries around the globe.

On Thursday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m., you can check out the latest looks from Etro. The company, started by Gimmo Etro in 1968 is synonymous with style, and includes clothing lines for men and women, accessories, leather goods and eyewear.

For the Spring 2007 season, the women’s collection highlights a world of ‘flower power’ full of optimism, color and nostalgia for the futre. For the men’s collection, the Etro man sets sail and is taken to an imaginary island as he sails the waves of the soul. A nautical color palette is highlighted with exotic floral summer prints.

The final show of the tournament, sponsored by the Village of Merrick Park with proceeds benefiting The Miami Project to Cure Paralysis, will take your breath away on Friday, March 30, at 6:00 p.m. Gorgeous models will strut their stuff in chic fashions from the hottest names in design that are located in some of its 87 stores while VIP guests enjoy cocktails and hors d’oevres before the evening matches.

Located in Coral Gables, the Village of Merrick Park is a shopping destination like no other. It is a place where fashion and style come to life in a quaint Village brimming with fountains, lush tropical foliage and a serene garden to relax and enjoy the sunshine.

Anyone know if Hawkeye will be on more than one court in Miami?

The year end masters should be played on an ice rink. Only the ones with the smoothest footwork will survive.

Hey, this isn't Mario Tennis.

I think they should paint the court red/burnt orange to reflect the true nature of the surface....or better yet, just make it a clay court event.

Q. How are the conditions here with the court? I know the weather is different than Indian Wells, but how does the court play?

ROGER FEDERER: Quite similar. I think it's very slow here actually, too. I don't know if it's slower than the last couple years, but it's hard to hit winners from the baseline. You've kind of got to work your way into those points. Kind of force the error, not actually get winners and stuff. So it's very similar to Indian Wells, it's just humidity and wind, which makes it harder to control, and sweat, which makes it difficult.

My dream:

Black courts + yellow ball + yellow lines + dress-code (white or yellow) = Maximum contrast

I was at the tournament and I think the color looks great! A fresh change. I'm all for tournaments individualizing with unique colors.
