Very well done, Rafa!!! :worship: :worship: :worship:

Very solid playing by Raf. If he keeps up this level of playing, I predict IW will be his. It would be well deserved.
I'd like to think of my avatar being The Omen... ;) :p

Ferrero had a lot of trouble keeping the ball deep off of his forehand and backhand. Good job to take advantage Nadal.

I don't think Chela or Russel is going to stop Nadal from getting to the semis.

Um but can you remind me who took out fed, exempt the excuses please.

But If you look at his draw it wasn't a cakewalk. It's not his fault the so called roaster couldn't pull through. And with the way all these top seeds were playing this week they probably didn't have much chance against rafa anyway. So be lucky they got taken out before they got to him, becuase if rafa wouldn't have beaten youzny, birdie, gonzo then fed, I don't think you'd have the balls to ever post here again.

To say the least, that was one hell of a let down. Another chance for JCF to match-up with the world's best and he missed it completely.

After the 3rd game of the first set, it looked like JCF had already given up. His body-language and attitude were really quite hopeless. No fight whatsoever. He played perfectly into Nadal's hands, just gently hitting the ball back as though it was a practise match.

His footwork was bad, it's so easy to get him off balance these days, there's just no real speed or athleticism anymore. A lot has been said about his forehand, needless to say it was shockingly bad today, but really I would even go as far as saying it's probably the worst forehand in the top 30 right now. No power, no accuracy, no consistency. He just doesn't have any weapons at the moment.

Maybe this is just the sort of result that JCF needs. A good reminder of where his game is at compared with three years ago. Both offensively and defensively, he is so average right now.

Indeed that Toronto match was in my mind too and it goes to show that it's not a match-up issue. He struggles against the aggressive players, like Gonzalez and Roddick, just as much as the defensive players, like Nadal and Canas.

He loses to a whole variety of players.

The previous by far, but Nadal even for his shitty gamestyle was serving well and hitting the lines with his forehand quite a bit, but I put that down to ferrero being so poor that he could play like that.

Ferreros ROS was very abysmal today as well. Nadal kept serving down the tee on the left side and outswing it on the right side,he did this continously for the 1st set in sequence (I turned the tv off after that for obvious reasons), and ferrero kept going the wrong ways.

A bit of both, really. JCF couldn't hit anything, it was painful. But Rafa was serving really well for the most part and his forehand looked really good. He had a few really nice winners, and never really looked anything but solid except maybe for the one game JCF managed in the second set. I think all his points in that one were off Rafa UEs. Actually, most of his points were, I think he had something like 11 or 12 winners on the match, total. He only had 27 points in the whole match, and I think something like 14 of those were UEs by Rafa. I mean it's hard to tell really, when JCF was so spectacularly bad.

That is mean-reverting for Ferrero, he played better than his average (these days) in Cinci and worse today but overall he is a player ranked between 15-30 with much more downside potential than upside. Rafa was just business, the match made it quite clear how awful he was in Toronto and Cinci last year.

It appears that the "tweener" era (before Roger began dominating) players are down...and will never return to the top of the men's game: Safin, Hewitt, Guga, and JCF...

New balls please;)

As sad as it is, I think you're right.

i am by no means a fan of nadal but seeing ferrero lose - especially in such a humiliating fashion - is enough to put a big smile on my face :)

Poor Ferrero, that was a beat down... I guess this will eliminate any hopes he still had of making it back to the top one day. The sad fact is that he will never be able to beat the new generation on a regular basis, except for some surprise wins maybe. Good job by Rafa but I'm still hoping for a tournament where it all falls together for JC and he has just that little bit of better luck. I really want to see him win a title again, I'll settle for any title at the moment. It just seems sad that it has to end this way but oh well, he's not retired yet so anything can still happen in the next few years. (And yeah, I'm a eternal optimist...)

When the guy loses to udomchoke, you know he isn't beating rafa let alone someone in the top 20. I still can't understand how he's in the top 20 rankings.

I'm assuming that JC played against Nadal the way he did against Udomchoke. Being in the crowd at that Udomchoke match was painful, because you knew he could play so much better. But Ferrero made a final, semi-final, and a 4th round of a major this year. Thats pretty good in my opinion! And there will be plenty more wins to follow, I'll tell you that now!!!

This just takes a bunch of air out me. Unfortunately, I am in total agreement. Still I hope that maybe one of them will prove this wrong...at least one more time before the curtain closes. :)
