Typical Verdasco match. He was the better player until it was crunch time.

Better in what sense?
He never even had a break pt on Nadal's serve:rolleyes:

exactly when was he a better player. I don't agree with that, a lot of times I can see people saying Rafa's opponent was a better player, but he stills seems to win. But this time I don't think Verdasco was better.

Good win for Nadal. He might be hard to take out this tournament.

Yay! Not a bad match. Rafa looked pretty good, better certainly than he did against Clement.

Ferrero now. Should be interesting. Vamos Rafa! :bounce:

Hopefully Ferrero brings something to the table, preferably something roasted.

Huge upset this one.

You are right of course, but if I am not mistaken Nadal leads the h-h 5-0 posting wins in all types of surfaces-given their styles this is somewhat of a surprise for me.

Yes, it was 5-0 and he only lost 1 set in those matches, so it was an upset. It's almost as upsetting as thinking clay is softer on the body than a hardcourt.

Nice win for Rafa. Particularly because the match lasted less than an hour and a half. While his serve improved as the match progressed, his court positioning was still too defensive...again all the way back to "Dubai";) .

I noticed that Rafa was chipping his return on the serve off his backhand more during this match. Obviously, a tactic he picked up watching Roger. All in all, both players played solid tennis...with some spectacular shots.

And the forehand Rafa hit on set point in the first:eek:   ...a laser!!! Probably the best winner he has hit in months.

Let's hope he gets revenge on JCF.

What I hope to see is an eventual semi between Rafa and Fat Dave...two players who have never played before...

:haha: Yes, there are all these scientific studies that show that people in continental Europe and South America are idiots since they make youngsters play on clay.

Back to the point, Nando has certainly done much worse than losing to Nadal but still it seems he has not made any progress relative to where he was a couple of years ago.

How the heck did he win? Anyway Nadal played a lot better than he did against Clement. Good to see improvement in his game.

I think they said on the tv that it was at least 100 mph.

As ussual, Verdasco had some good shots as well. Rafa did much better than his match against Clement- I was pleased. :)

They both hit 100mph forehands.

I'd like to see a Rafa-Nalby SF too! :)

He looked better today, even a bit more relaxed at the end. Very nice effort. :)

What a choice though between Rafa and JCF. I'm on the fence, so I will wish them both good luck.

Rafa winning matches with ease, rare situation recently but I happy for him , but still I want Andy Roddick to win more, butSF should be very possible and it will boost his confidence for good showing in Miami

That laser on set point was the best shot Rafa has hit since 2005. Of course Fed hits at least 1 per match.

Loved seeing Rafa being consistently aggressive with his forehands. It's been so long. Reminiscent of 2005. Bodes well for IW and the coming clay season. It would suck big time if he were to join the rest of the tour in bending over for Federer....... Vamos!

Verdasco has the goods. Needs to improve Volleys, Head and Big Point Conversion. Still plays more like a talented 20-year old than a maturing, improving match player.
