Forever-Delayed
04-01-2007, 09:04 PM
I know I have to be careful with this prediction, but Bogdanovic really should win the title here if he wants to make a move up the rankings, as there is no-one in this draw that he should fear, and he has an easish draw until the semi final stage
The problem is he is tending to lose to the lower ranked players as of late, but if he plays well, then the title is his for the taking
CooCooCachoo
04-01-2007, 09:30 PM
There is definitely no one Bogdanovic can't beat, but there are many players he could lose against. I am going for Tsonga here, but it's a wild guess.

be careful taking sarstrand this week. his shoulder injury that happened in feb(dallas challenger) hasn't healed and he is only able to kick his serve in. he said he is hitting his groundies well, but when you can only spin your serve in, you cant win any cheap pts and puts tons of pressure on your chance to hold.

You guys should mark your calendar for next year. During the Dallas Challenger in Feb 08 we will have live streaming of matches on two courts. You will be able to watch the matches on your pc for free. I'll keep you posted on more details once we get them.

So far the best challenger this year IMO. It had everything...livescore, interviews, even video clips. It made challenger series so much cooler...and not so "remote" as others...
My opinion: 10/10 :worship:

It is not a big deal when an injured player is winning matches. It happens quite often. Wasn't Fena Gonzalez playing with a blocker on his leg for long weeks and winning?

No, for real man...It was such a joy watching low ranked players. I mean, we can watch Federer, Nadal, Roddick all the time on TV, but watching e.g. Sarstrand, Dorsch, Fleishman, Reynolds...is something different, more interesting for me! I wish all challengers had as good support as this one. And the guy who interviewed players was so kind!
Keep on the good work :D

Uhmm, this is the website. I think it has a nice outfit
http://www.pekaoopen.com.pl/2006/index.php
Of course photos, live TV, interviews, match reports, match previews
The texts are written in the rather easy language, I had them translated, just pasting one short one for the example. (Please mind English is not my first language and the translation is poor)
Lapentti vs Starace
The last but one seeded player was eliminated from the tournament. In fact, it's not a surprise that Potito Starace from Italy (seeded six) lost to Nicolas Lapentti. The Ecuadorian is far more experienced.
In the first set Lapentti broke Starace to take the lead 3:2, because the Italian was fighting an unequal battle against his own dropshots and volleys. But out of the blue the seeded player rebroke and we had the draw 4:4. Lapentti has always presented atheltic tenis, but today he wasn't running like a neat roe-deer, what might have been caused by his just healed left knee injury. At least for sure it didn't come out of his endless boredom with bombing and lifting from the baseline, because he was going through match quite passionately, commenting his shots with: "No, no, noooo!". In the tie-break he took the lead right away, after breaking Starace, who played a smartass dropshot to the middle of the court. Altough he redeemed himself by hitting a winner in the corner, another ball landed in the area of a lineswoman (on whose chair he soon sat and started grumbling about his own miserable play with the help of suggestive gestures). Then Lapentti's cleverness came to the microphone: he started changing rotations and running to balls that he earlier wasn't even starting to. After a while, the set belonged to him.
In the second set gentlemen were breaking themselves like the WTA doubles. Shorted shots of Lapentti were rather shortening his own struggles, which means it's the continuation of "rachityczne niedoloty" (I still don't know how to translate it : I mean, shots who don't even reach the net). In the effect, the most fascinating was the announcement, brought by the wind: "Mother of Peter Słoma please show up at tournament's office" repeated twenty times. In the game where Starace had 5:4 and service, he lost all the power by winning the rally of the tournament... Then he lost a setball and we had a tie-break. They were still breaking each other. The air became humid - it was effective to play low slices to make the ball bury itself in the clay, just like a frog clay. The Ecuadorian succeed to fight this match over from the running away from his own backhand Starace after 2 hours and 13 minutes. He had a hard breath, but thanked to the fans by throwing balls towards spectators.

probably the biggest two replies we got from people were the live message blogs of the singles semis and doubles finals as well as the way the players were so relaxed and comfortable with us that they could pull pranks on each other(kendrick pulling his coach's pants down, reynolds pouring water over kendrick after he won the tournament)during the interviews. it's a side of players that most fans dont get to see.

I was at the tournament again tonight...saw Kenneth Carlsen go down in flames to Tsonga 6-3 7-6 (4)..he led 5-2 in the second but could close it out, also led 4-1 in the TB. Tsonga really muscled his groundstrokes and Calson's finesse game just wasn't enough. Being that Carlson has beaten so many top ranked players from Federer to Edberg (at Wimbledon!) to Ivanisavich to Badhdatis....and many many more it was depressing to see him go out in the third round of a challenger event. Not enough first serves for Carlsen either while Tsongas got a ton of freebies on his. As an aside Tsongas cussed and yelled a ton in French (since I know Portugues the curse words were obvious) while his coach sat strategically semi-hidden in the corner (in a chair next to the bleechers) and illegally coached or at least contantly sent encouraging words his way (I sat 5 feet away from the coach) throughout the whole match, and also took careful notes on him throughout. I figure the coach must get paid buy the French Federation...

Thanks for the info.
Kenneth's best days are behind him, unfortunately. He's a veteran with a game style that has not been very successful on tour. I love to watch him, as he is a very gracious player, but he was by no means the favourite going into this match against Tsonga. Tsonga was my favourite for the title early on (see poll). He is a talented Frenchie and should be able to claw his way out of Challengers this year.

Nope, I didn't include him as I didn't think he'd be a big threat. Of course he is a dangerous player, but his results haven't been that good. I didn't think he'd get past Bogdanovic, although his quarter was, IMO, by far the weakest.
